I'd say that David Carradine has set the standard for this one.  It's unfortunate that he died, and obviously  the method in which he died was, at the very least, embarrassing.  However, I'm willing to bet that ER personnel have seen a hell of a lot worse.  I know that I've seen some stuff I wish I hadn't - but it didn't make the news.

I feel sorry for his family, who will have to suffer through the humilliation of this story for awhile.

What have you seen that didn't make the news? Would be very interesting to hear.

Stuff is found various different orifices all the time - when it can't be taken out people go to the ER.

How's about a huge (and I mean huge) sausage that had to be surgically removed? Glass/plastic bottles. Vibrators that are still humming along that were too deep to remove. Trailer hitch. Seriously, the ball on a trailer hitch. Hot dogs, bananas, etc.

What a shame that he was at the end of his rope. Kung Fu was a great show. I own all three seasons. But now his fans are left hanging. Oddly enough, I had just purchased "Roadside Prophets," an off the wall movie in which he had a small part. He seemed like a cool cat to hang with but I imagine he was troubled since he had five marriages and admitted alcohol and drug abuse. He was a bit loopy and liked to tie one on, it seems, and that's knot too smart. Something like this was bound to happen. May he rest in peace.

Wish he'd been able to hang on a bit longer, tho. It seems to me that he didn't realize how precious life is - one minute you're hanging in a closet with ropes around your neck & genitals with your hands bound behind your back, the next minute you're dead.

Seriously, there are people who are into many different types of sexual experiences and as long as it doesn't hurt anyone (unless they want to be), it's their business. But I do wonder how he was able to bind his own hands behind his back if it was an auto-erotic adventure. I don't think we'll ever get to know the full story.

This raises the question - if someone was with him, even though he was a willing participant, since he died are they responsible for his death?

If there was foul play, the perpetrator should be hung. But it's unfortunate that Carradine actually contemplated suicide.
In a 2004 interview which may have foretold his death, Carradine said: "I remember one time sitting in the window of the third or fourth floor of the Plaza Hotel for about an hour, thinking about just tipping off. And that was at a time when I was having more fun than you could imagine.
"I just thought, 'Who the ---- cares, man? Why don't I just split?' Of course I didn't, so there you go."
"Look, there was a period in my life when I had a single action Colt 45, loaded, in my desk drawer. And every night I'd take it out and think about blowing my head off, and then decide not to and go on with my life. Put it back in the drawer and open up the laptop and continue writing my autobiography or whatever. But it was just to see."
He told the entertainment website IGN.com: "I'm not afraid of anything. Why would you be afraid of death? It would be an inconvenience. I have a lot of undone things and it's bound to get in the way. But, no, it doesn't scare me at all."

What a trip. People who take thier own lives don't realize the pain that they cause to those that are left behind. They're self-centered, focusing on their own pain and I doubt they're able to see anything else.

It seems to me that this incident wasn't suicide because there are easier ways to die than to hang oneself. Seems like sex-play that got out of hand (seriously, no pun intended there). I've had clients tell me that the thrill for auto-erotic asphyxiation is wonderful - but that it's important to have a partner there to ensure you don't die.

update, quote:
A picture of David Carradine appeared on the cover of a Thai tabloid called Thai Rath. The source of the photo appears to have been the Thai police, and the picture was taken by Thai police forensics.
The picture of Carradine shows him suspended from a bar in a closet, with his hands bound together above his head. It’s hard to commit suicide in this position.
The Carradine family say they are "profoundly disturbed" by the publication of the photo. Brother Keith Carradine released this statement:
"The family wants it understood that, per attorney Mark Geragos, any persons, publications or media outlets will be fully prosecuted for invasion of privacy and causing severe emotional distress if the photos are published."
There is low, and then there is completely disrespectful. The release of that picture is completely beyond words. Don’t expect the Thai police to solve this crime, especially after taking money for, and allowing the publication, of such a horrible picture. This only highlights how incompetent the Thai police are.
A big name actor like Carradine should have been assigned his own security by the movie production company.

From Wikipedia: Historically, the practice of autoerotic asphyxiation has been documented since the early 1600s. It was first used as a treatment for erectile dysfunction and impotence.[2] The idea for this most likely came from subjects who were executed by hanging. Observers at public hangings noted male victims developed an erection, sometimes remaining after death (death erection), and occasionally ejaculated when being hanged. Note that, however, ejaculation occurs in hanging victims after death because of disseminated muscle relaxation; this is a different mechanism from that sought by AEA practitioners.

This is probably where they got the expression "No noose is good noose."

Think they might rename the hotel the Hangkok?

The only thing I find fishy is the fact that he was alone in the apartment, who the hell goes to Bangkok, the erotic sex capital of the world to masterbate alone in a closet? He you can't someone to get you off in bangkok, your not looking very hard. With enough money I could live like a king for year in bangkok, different girl every day and another one at night. Soapy massages and an endless sea of willing partners. Heaven I tell you absolute heaven... well I'm married now, that dream is crushed. If you want some advice, never get married, they take your paycheck and crush your dreams.

Vanilla sex is boring to the jaded. Erotic asphyxia is the ultimate dangerous thrill combined with Viagra (look. ma, no hands) for someone into bondage and masturbation. Lingerie was also found at the scene. The possibility and the sight of choking to death might scare off prostitutes (and wifes) since this technique involves starving the brain of oxygen before you pass out, which releases powerful euphoric chemicals.
I think I'll stick to vanilla sex with my strawberry blond who wears scoop necklines and creamy lipstick since she melts my heart even though we've had a rocky road together. Aw nuts, gotta go now--I have to take a pistachio.
