Josh Duggar, the oldest son of the media whores who birthed 19 kids and got themselves a teevee show outta it, was a customer of Ashley Madison. Not one account, but two. Normally I would say that it's his and his family's business (I mean his wife and kids...), but he held himself out to be a role model of chastity and family values.

I thought they were odd before all the sexual shit came to light, now I think he's a piece of shit. He's received an upgrade, yay!

Josh was also reportedly possibly using OKCupid. For those who don't know who the Duggars are, read about their religious incest.

Update: Duggar now calls himself "the biggest hypocrite ever", though in fact that's attention-seeking hyperbole; in reality, he's only one more in an endless list of phony religious/"family" Republicans persecuting others in order to deflect attention from themselves. Duggar's best chance at a reality TV show: a Republican Big Brother house of worship featuring former former Senator Larry Craig, former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, former Representative Mark Foley, registered Republican Jerry Sandusky, and doubtless many more to be named later (cough - Bachmann - cough); prayers will be led by Ted Haggard and "Family Research Council" co-founder George Rekers.

I credit Dan8267 with the observation that closet cases are probably half the GOP, and I think if you include the scared wives that's true both of the GOP and their hideously hypocritical fundamentalist churches.

As I've always said, blatant normalcy/piousness is a cover for wantonness, even perversion.

I'd rather stay happily oblivious. Now if only I could unlearn who Kim fucking Kardashian is...

Ashley Madison must be the busiest hooker in the world, having to screw all of those unfaithful men and all.

Jared Fogel thought their family name was "Buggar" and asked to be adopted.

What about Bill Bennett, that degenerate gambler who lectured us all about morality?

The RNC is run by

Former RNC Chair Ken Mehlman and the late Roy Cohn (whose famous career began with McCarthyism and ended with AIDS) resemble that remark, but the second generation seem fatter and to have rolled downhill from the tree. Their obesity puts them at risk for knee and spinal surgeries and subsequent opiate and opioid addictions, which makes them even crazier and more toxic.

The main thing to realize about Ashley Madison and all such cheating sites is that there are no women on the site just men and bots.

It turns out, there may not have been very many women. As in, almost none.

Gizmodo editor-in-chief Annalee Newitz analyzed the data from the site's user database and found a lot of suspicious stuff suggesting that nearly all the female accounts were fake, maintained by the company's employees.

First, the official numbers. The info that the hackers published contained about 31 million accounts apparently belonging to men, and about 5 million apparently belonging to women.

Only 2,409 of the women had ever used the site's chat function, versus more than 11 million men.

That gives us a reasonable rough estimate that (2409 / 5 million) / (11 million / 31 million) or 0.013578% of the female accounts were real, or that 2409 * 31 / 11 or 6,789 actual women were using the site. So basically, Ashley Madison's business strategy was to take money from stupid men who thought the only thing standing between them and a sexual affair with some horny hot chick is the lack of a website to facilitate meeting those women. Sure, many men were probably thinking "the cost is low, so it doesn't matter if it's a rip-off so why not take the chance", but the fact is that describes 99% of products and services in our economy.

It's true that any social networking site, for dating or cheating or anything else, is going to have to seed its site with fake accounts to lure real people because practically no one will join a social network that has few or zero people in it. The initial people on a dating site cannot get any benefits from taking the time to fill out the questionnaire and open an account because there aren't any other people on it.

The value of a communications network is proportional to the square of the number of its users. This is called Metcalfe's Law. Don't take it too literally because Metcalfe's Law is wrong in that it is an oversimplification of the true value of the network which does not exactly follow the direct square relation, but it's close enough for government work and private enterprise. In fact Facebook values itself based on Metcalfe's Law.

The consequence is that any startup social network is essentially worthless and remains so until it reaches a critical mass where there's enough people on it or enough people on it who live near you to make it worth your time and effort to join the network and participate in it. Once that happens, it starts happening to all potential users all at once and the network goes viral. Eventually, with nearly everyone on the network, even people who don't want to join it are pressured into doing. That's why most people have Facebook accounts even though it sucks and Skype accounts, but not any other video phone account. There's no point in even trying any other video phone account because everyone is already signed up with Skype. Even if a better alternative comes along, you wouldn't be able to connect to all your coworkers, family, and friends on it. Unlike with a search engine, a social network has staying power because the herd has to all move to an alternative platform all at once. Until that happens, every cow is trapped in the current network. So by their nature, social networks pull the ladder up behind them, and as such are very attractive businesses to rent seekers.

Getting back to Ashley Madison, the problem with any sex or romance site is that it does not solve the fundamental problem with romance that exists in the real world. All people want to have sexual and romantic affairs with other people who are more attractive then they are. Ugly people want to fuck supermodels. This is a problem that cannot be solved by pairing up real people with other real people regardless of what data or algorithms you use. The only solution is to pair up real people with simulations of attractive people, and in order for that solution to work, the simulations have to be very realistic. That's relatively easy to accomplish for chatting today, but not so for actual sex. A realistic simulation would have to on the level of a holodeck, or better yet, direct neural stimulation of the brain to create a realistic fantasy world in which you have sex with hot celebrities and you feel every sensation you would in the real world if you actually could do such things in the real world. This is the killer app for sex. The bad news is that you will have to wait at least a few decades for it. The good news, or bad depending on your situation, is that when it is released, it will supplant all other economic activity that revolves around people getting laid, which is like 80% of the economy.

By the way, the worst job in the 24th century is cleaning the holodeck, especially after Wesley used it.
