One would have to ask why would anybody frame him, when he has all of his powerful pedo friends and politicians only working to protect him. He's not really 'important enough' to frame in such a manner.

I don't know. If I had shared my opinions about Great Leader in a widely read column in the ways that Krugman has, I'm pretty sure I might be paranoid too.

What if rather than being a phishing scam, just to fuck with him or harass him, someone contacted him in an extremely believable way, pretending to be law enforcement saying that he had child porn on his computer.

If he (and whomever put the call through to him) believed they were real law enforcement , but he also knew that not only did he not have child porn, that he didn't even have anything resembling porn on his work computer - then in a moment of paranoia he decided to get out in front of it becasue he feared this was going to be a story people were going to hear.

Yeah, paranoid and stupid of him, but I'm just saying this might have been something different than your typical scam. Remember Krugman is a guy that gets a lot of hate mail, and even death threats, so he must have some screening system or people in place for this kind of thing such that it wouldn't (or shouldn't) usually even reach him.
