Some of the best movies I've ever seen were ones that did not get the acclaim they deserved. Do you have any suggestions for movies that are about pandemics, biography about great men or interesting moments in history that might open a person's eyes to the truth of that event?

Thank you, I appreciate any effort.

I'd recommend:

The Thin Blue Line by Error Morris - it's a documentary.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thin_Blue_Line_(1988_film)

Errol Morris set out to make a film about a man known as "Dr. Death" who was a psychologist that was hired to ALWAYS recommend the death penalty for the prosecution. Randal Dale Adams was one of the people that ran into him - he was convicted of murder of a police officer. The film doesn't just prove that Adams was innocent, it also found the actual perpetrator of the crime. It's one of the most amazing documentaries ever made.

For more lighthearted fare, I'd recommend Repoman:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repo_Man_(film)

I can provide you with both films. If you are willing to get tox:

The Island (fake contamination scare/sci fi future with cloning)

That's a remake of "Parts: The Clonus Horror".

If you like old science fiction, I'd highly recommend The Forbin Project. Hunh, found it online:

Super illegal copy but, whatever.

The first 3 seasons of 'The Expanse' and then stop, because it grows morose and boring during seasons 4 & 5.

Even given the titties thread already on PatNet, Matilda's perfectly formed natural set of breasts are a wonder to behold.

One of my favorites of all time. Good call, @Ceffer.

All Great recommendations. Time Bandits my favorite childhood movie. Naked Lunch is really "Junkie" by Burroughs, who was an SJW Cunt. The Prisoner is great.

When my wife and I watched this, she experienced the closest thing to The Simpsons "Strange feelings stirring in Duffman." That movie is over the top fucked up.

I should also mention another Cronenberg flick: Crash

I was able to find Gattaca online for free last night. Pretty good. What I got from the movie is that randomness is one of the spices of life.
24   komputodo   2021 Sep 30, 2:42pm

War Machine....see what was going on in Afghanistan all those years. If you like docs, try Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken! and learn about all the bullshit about free range, cage free, hormone free bird and the "healthy grilled chicken samiches", LOL...If you want to watch a gritty ass depressing old movie about alcoholic bums, try ON THE BOWERY.

Grave of the Fireflies

That was such a great film.

The writer of the book, wrote it because he was Seita. He starved his sister to death at the end of WWII in Japan, and he wrote the book as an apology and confession for what he did as he and his sister struggled to survive at the end of the last world war.

There has been many versions of Grave of the Fireflies, but the one you want to see, is this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grave_of_the_Fireflies. The animated one is by far the best version of it.

It's one of the most crushing and heartbreaking films I've ever seen.

Naked Lunch is also a favorite of mine.

Peter Weller (he also played Robocop) pushed to have this film made. Such a crazy film. The film is about William S. Burroughs writing the book "Naked Lunch", it's not the book itself. I've attempted to read Naked Lunch, but I think I'd also have to be on heroin to actually get through it, and I'm never going to take an opiate.

Not until I have terminal cancer at least, maybe I'll make an attempt then.

I recently saw 2 great movies from Norway.

Norway?

See Insomnia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insomnia_(1997_film)

Don't bother with the US remake. Remakes are RARELY better.

Nikita is also a great film: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Femme_Nikita_(film). It was remade as Point of No Return, it was a disaster.

There is Abre Los Ojos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Your_Eyes_(1997_film) which was remade as Vanilla Sky in the US, which was a poor copy in my opinion.

Used to be a film buff, until everything I was seeing I realized was just a copy of earlier ideas. Originals RARELY are worse than the remakes. I know subtitles are a pain in the ass, but they are often worth it.

Trailer Park Boys, "Conky" episode (JBP recommended)

And HBO's Rome. Just watch the first season. The second one isn't bad but not nearly as good as the first. A LOT of parallels with our current politics can be seen in both Yes, Minister and Rome.

That series has a disappointing ending; the viewership wasn't as high as anticipated for Season 1, so they rewrote what they had for two or three seasons and crammed it into Season 2, which is why it is inferior. Season 2 Ep 1 opened up to a massive audience, but by that time the actors were all engaged in different things and the film crews dispersed, and they had used all the material they had.

It's one of the reasons they signed on for 7 Seasons of GOT, having learned their lesson about cancelling Series too soon before word of mouth could spread viewership.
