I’m not even 50 yet, but I’m most definitely that “get off my lawn” guy.

First time flying in a few years(Wookie, I have no idea how you do it). Going to meet a friend in Vegas to see the Scorpions tonight. Midweek so super cheap airfare($97 round trip inclusive of all fees and a comp room at Aria). Everything went smooth this morning. Southwest sent me a text and email this morning at 9 telling me my 1230 flight was moved back to 1:43. Cool, nice of them to do. Made for a relaxing morning and I had slept in so I can enjoy myself tonight.

20 minute no traffic drive to lax and I made a mistake entering on Sepulveda instead of Century. Cost me 10 minutes. No biggie.

Inside the terminal I was a tad confused. I only brought a backpack. So I asked an employee and she asked to see my boarding pass which I produced on my phone and she guided me to the correct line. Ok. Good. Slightly frayed nerves but not really. Of course the line was an absolute clusterfuck. No clue why people can just follow the clearly stated rules. But I maintain outward calm. Couple guys are rolled up in wheelchairs and the ass in front of me basically shoved his way in front of the wheelchair guys. I stay the polite, well behaved FTM I am and am happy to let the wheel chair bound folks in. Some lady still putting out her items on the security belt is chastised by TSA for putting her stuff into two trays that had no reason for doing so other than she’s a cleanliness hypochondriac and didn’t want her shoes touching her other stuff. Ehhhh. I go through the scan machine and three others follow me. The conveyor belt with out personal items is not moving, so there’s an overload of people in that area. I take a step to the side, joining the three people in front of me. Our stuff is going to be a few minutes. The three mouth breathers behind me rush immediately to the conveyor belt, knowing that their shot ain’t coming out until ours is removed. Wtf is wrong with these people? So my stuff comes out, and I’m no longer nice. Normally it would be a “pardon me”. But because of their unnecessarily frantic moves, it’s “get out of the way so I can get my stuff” “youre stuff won’t come out until I get my things”. And my tone is anything but nice. Then the idiots putting on their belts and shoes in the middle of the damn aisle instead of going to one of the many empty benches to sit and put their shoes on. Sigh.

The final indignity is walking through the terminal where the slow pokes don’t move to the side. There’s some people really rushing and I totally get that esp if they have a connecting flight. Everyone moving like cattle really should get the eff out of the way.

I made it to the gate 20 minutes before boarding time where I’m posting this. There’s a bar right here and I really should have had a drink but I’d love to not have to use the restroom before I get to my hotel room. I should have had a drink anyway. I have a low boarding number so I’ll probably be at the back of the plane and I’m damm sure some ahole is going to stand up near the back of the plane immediately upon landing, pull his carry on futilely hoping it means he gets to de board first. Ugh.

It’s packed in the terminal, probably because dummies didn’t check their emails for delays. They just cautioned people that there are two Vegas flights leaving adjacently. How much you wannna bet at least a few idiots try to get on the wrong flight?

Like I said, I’m officiallu old. Nonstop beer and $75 in free play once I arrive will really help. A lot.

Mistake number one in your post. Not a dig. But you need to be pushy and get what you want. TSA hates their job. If you're direct you'll get better results. Be direct with fellow passengers as well. Don't be a dick, but you may have to confront people including employees. We've missed a flight and it was 100% our fault. I was a bit of an ass hole and got us on another flight. Again, it was my fault. I was a polite ass hole so to speak, kids helped too.

Also with masks, just drink booze if you have the time. Or take an edible before if you're comfortable with that. Weed doesn't help my anxiety when flying but I'll still do it. Alcohol is best if you learn your limits. I'll have 3-5 Laguinitas beers on a SW flight if I'm not getting a rental car. I usually just pop an Indica gummy and sleep most the flight. My oldest has been on probably 25 round trip flights at 11 years of age.

Not going to sugar coat it, but flying does suck. But when I can get 5 people to San Juan for free with points, I'll suck it up. TSA pre is key also. US customs is non-existent since covid came around. Hand the passport over and tell them if you have $10k, booze or smokes. That's it. We always travel with a notarized document from my SIL for my nephew because he's black, but that's about the worst part for us.

I hate the plane, but we've gotten airports down to a science with 3 kids. I'm usually 3-4 beers deep before getting on the plane. If you do international at all, lounge access is a must. Food and booze are essentially free if you compare it to the restaurants at the airport. A meal for 5 and a couple drinks easily covers the annual fee on a credit card for lounge access. And that's just one trip.

I'm a young geezer to be honest. Get off my lawn is me, lol. We just had 5 kids sleep over the other night. It was awful. I'm the cook and had to make dinner and breakfast for these fuckers. This is why I take edibles though. Chills me out. Still pisses me off.

Global Entry is 100 bucks, jump the whole line.
But the nonsense of the TSA is annoying and I'm always pissed off in an airport.
I've been an "old man" since I was 17 evidently.

Well.

I flew United twice last week and 3/4 flights were horribly delayed. The 2nd worked in my favor or I would have been stuck in Houston.

The 4th didn't and I was stuck in Houston. They dumped me in a Red Roof Inn which is by far the dankest piece of shit hotel I've ever stayed in (and I stayed in a "5 star" hotel in Irapuato for a few days with bowling ball sized holes in the wall) but fortunately there was a nicer place next door that had a nice bar - the bar tender and manager are based and told me to use their shuttle for my 6AM departure, which I did. I tipped them and the driver quite well. Red Roof just had a hoopty van with a pissed off illegal alien mexican that was rude to the ladies that asked questions and left at 7AM at the earliest.

I would have made my 4th flight but yet-again as I posted on here 3 months ago (that time American Airlines) they stuffed a shit ton of illegals on the plane coming out of San Antonio and Houston. Only about 50% of the seats this time instead of nearly 100% so perhaps an improvement.

Again, like animals they all jumped up and pushed their way into the isle literally fucking as soon as the wheels hit the ground. Last time they waited until it stopped at least. Nobody could get their shit out of the overheads. Again. So it took for fucking ever to get off the goddamn plane.

Fucking flying with lice covered animals.

Fortunately that is my last flight into TX to check on my folks. I'm moving there in 5 months. The last several years I've done that route 5-7 times per year but never were there fucking dirty ass homeless invaders on the planes like that.

Funny thing is as it was happening I was reading patnet (not logged in) on my phone and there is some thread on here "I refuse to fly coach", lol..

Just get it with a credit card. Most offer TSA pre or global entry. Global entry sucks though as it's only tied to the individual. My kids all get TSA pre when we fly. It's a must have with family travel. Global entry is nice, but last 2 times through Customs it was of no benefit. Lines were short.

Travel is fun once at the destination, but it's why I take edibles or drink copious amounts of beer pre-flight. And I have zero fear of flight either. Masks don't help either, but FA's are getting less strict. Just keep a snack or drink out and you don't have to wear it besides getting on and off the plane. I don't wear it through airports anymore either. Haven't been hassled.

First time in a long time we have no travel plans. Nothing. Kind of sucks. We'll do something for the wife's 40th. I might do a solo trip out to Montana and visit my buddies this summer. Maybe do a Red Rocks show in CO fathers day weekend. Hell maybe combine it since Denver is the hub to Bozeman for Southwest.

I’m getting global entry; the immigration line at Dallas when I came back from Cabo San Lucas was awful.

I can add my car to it and drive up to Tijuana and use the Sentry entrance, another short line.

I’m happy to pay 100 bucks to not suffer in the airport or at the border at San Ysidro.

I don't know that route, but $100 out of pocket should be pretty trivial for most. It's worth it as a solo traveler. With 5 of us though it's not really worth $500 for a family once or twice a year.

I have to say with Covid Customs coming back to the states is a nothing burger. Jamaica was rough as I totally forgot I had a lounge pass and could have hit the club line for Customs there. That was 30 minutes extra.
