The recent winter heating disaster is Texas was partially due to the extreme cold freezing up windmills and natural gas generation. Build some dams for electric and reservoirs that are created for water. Problem solved. Not too complicated. I like CA's climate, but it's not sustainable with the population without more water. Dam up every river or creak you can, environment be damned. I don't think something as stupid as an endangered spider or snake getting drowned is going to mess up the circle of life or whatever. You're all dead anyway if you don't have water.

It would be a huge public works project, but we pipe oil and gas from one end of the country to another. Why couldn't we pipe Great Lakes water in pipelines out west? Why was it torture? For about 6 years my father was a logger in Michigan. We lived way far out. Some of the best years of my life. The best memory for me was walking through the forest with dad on Xmas Eve looking for a Xmas tree. He finally decided to cut off the top of a, what seemed like to me at the time, 100 foot tall pine tree and use that. He dragged that tree back all by himself. He was a mountain man for sure. Good times, good times.

BORING. It was boring to live there. Nature is great, but you get your fill after 18 years of it. Small towns are a torture in their own, there's no anonymity. Rumors are a constant thing, everybody in town knew X was having an affair, except the spouse.

We went out for Christmas trees too, slogging through the snow.

The torture for me was primarily lack of educational resources and data. I'm built to be an engineer. The first thing I did when I got my license to drive, was go to Watertown and visit the library. It was just frustrating. It wouldn't be bad today. Internet has entirely replaced the need for a library to get access to technical information.

I can see why my parents liked it, but as a kid back in the 1970s, it was just frustrating constantly.

So, you didn't go fishing, tobogganing, climb to the tops of trees, go shooting, swim in creeks, explore, grow a garden, build things (you're an engineer. You could have owned your town at some point maybe), ride horses, ride mini bikes, skip rocks, throw rocks to improve motor skills? I could go on and on. I've never felt as free as I did back then. I imagine it's also because I was young with 0 responsibilities.

If there is no wolves the population of deer is probably way above normal anyway. Yellowstone is a good example of how many deer would be in the area with and without wolves.

We aren't evil, some of us are, but I'm fully convinced that our basic morality is good. We are improving as a species, not just technologically, but morally.

Lol... don't build if you don't know what you're doing and can be there daily. I've been on site for hundreds of builds from condos, houses and commercial. The amount of fucking around and not working is staggering if you're not watching. It's the same in almost all physical labor industries. Most of the guys were out at the bar last night fucking around until midnight.

Always overbuild. Not size wise, but utility wise. Pipe in behind the walls what you think you "might" need. Electric, gas, HVAC and plumbing are going to be your biggest regrets once you use the space. Size down on bedrooms. No one needs a 20x20 master. Master baths need to be nice. You generally shower, shit and pee every day, make it nice. Back to the bedroom, keep it small(ish), save money and get a nice mattress. Master bedrooms are the biggest waste in a house, you're fucking or sleeping.

I'll start the thread over the summer, but it's going down. We'll be building. I have more experience than most in the realm though and know good builders and have the time to be up their ass if they're fucking around. This will be custom too, so more headaches, but your time is probably the biggest factor in building.
