The pending information era resulted in successive time compactions i.e. when new computer and communication efficiencies came in, time became increasingly compacted to stuff more shit into faster, shorter bursts coming even faster. Information overload is a thing. Everything is new, more complicated and requires information wading to bring stuff up to helter skelter speed. More efficiency, more rushed, less time to think.

Subsequent generations became 'faster', but scattered and shallow. They think in paragraphs rather than long articles or books. Boomers went deep at a more leisurely pace. Boomers are deeper in a shallow world of staccato sound bites.

I think some of our present political and social problems exist because the subsequent generations are rushing around like chickens with their heads cut off, but they have limited capacity to evaluate information. They want conclusions with no process, whereas the process is necessary for correct conclusions.

Too much change creates instability and sense of loss of control.

Boomers often have self-responsibility, something that is particularly lacking in Millies, where EVERYTHING is society/somebody else's fault.

I know a Millie chick whose mom paid for her Catholic School, College, etc. and now in her mid 30s is beginning to plump up. I always turn around and leave when I see they are part of a door dash operation. I only deal with joints that have their own delivery people.
Those Social Network delivery systems put a 20% or more premium on your food, and not always to make the food better. They have to put so much into fancy delivery packaging, they cut back on ingredients of what they put in. Often going for a common supplier so their hot food is in compliance with the service. You can order a burger and fries from three different places using Door dash, and when you get it, they will all look identical.

I never use the self check for a myriad of reasons.

1) They were developed and introduced to the American markets just 6 months to a year after our Enterprise all sent our best computer developers and programmers home to go pound sand, shortly after 911 and the tech crash. (outsourced from India or Baltic State programmers working for peanuts)

2) When they rolled out, most every time you used one, you had to take everything off and start all over again.

3) Now many times, you still have to wait for an employee to come over and put in a code, to allow the machine to complete your order.

4) I don't like wasting my time on unnecessary steps, and using self checkout seems to be an unnecessary step. As you still end up having to wait for a cashier to provide an action before you order can be completed.

So I always use a live cashier even if there are ten empty unused self checkout lanes, and I have to be the third person in line behind two big fat welfare queens, with a basket full of shit.

I kind of enjoy talking to cashiers, so that's another reason.

There's a very deliberate effort to misinform the public at every step possible precisely because the younger the person, the more familiar they are with directly accessing information without a curator.

The boomer generation, more than any other generation including the Silent Generation, implicitly trusts the "authorities", they trust television, they trust "news". I can see directly, that the younger generation is not as trustful. The new rebelling generation are "conservatives", and they went through their liberal phase, but they left it far sooner than I did. They get their information (such as it is) from places like 4chan. They KNOW that's filled with "glowies", they are aware of bots, they are aware of propaganda.

The facade is falling apart and it's because of the younger generations. Facebook is for "old people" to them. They are leading the charge for getting actual information.

Disagree. I started in a particular government workplace in 2007(I’ve worked for govt for a lot longer than that, but this one is a good Petri dish). Almost 200 employees. I estimate that 20-25 did nothing or almost nothing all day. Once the first Gen Xer promoted into a division head position, the change was lightning paced for the Gov. Immediately no one could just do nothing. Measurements were put in place and everyone had to produce something. That took about 6 months. Within 5 years, the last of the “do nothing” employees was gone. Furthermore I noticed the same change across the entire entity I work for. More and more Gen Xers moved into management positions and the boomers were out and the more efficient the govt got. Everyone I work with produces. A few are below average, a lot are average. Some are really top notch. The effort now is to push those that are below average and average to produce more in terms of quality and quantity. I’ll note that staffing is waaay down from a decade ago.

I will say this does not include entities that allow employees to work from home, a concept I am 100% against for government employees. Amazingly, or perhaps not, most of the Departments in the entity I work for that still have employees working from home are entirely headed by boomers.

I don’t get it. All working from home in terms of govt workers indicates to me is that they are over staffed. If I were heading one of those Departments I’d be completely ok with losing half the staff in exchange for everyone remaining coming back to the workplace. We would get the work done just fine.

I think who really setup this shit show, was the Nazi's kid, George H. Bush - the ex-CIA director. I think it's quite obvious that the intelligence agencies run the nation now. I can tell you how you can fix this. Work from home employees need to be in front a camera and a screen that is always on while they are at work.

I didn't work with him, but a colleague did - he worked from home, and on his computer at home he had his webcam on, and at work at his desk, was a tablet this showed his face. If you wanted to talk to him, you'd walk over to his cubicle, and have a chat. He was always online while at work and he was always present at work.

I wouldn't object to doing this.

With Guv employees, having them work from home might be OK. The chaff can chug Colt 45 in their slippers but won't get in the way and require workarounds for the ones who actually do the work. Most of my learning has been on the job and / or on my own. I worked with a guy that was a technician that later became a EE. He was like a god.

I heard an interesting saying among the native Americans - "a lie has many stories, the truth has only one".

Remember, a lie is a fictional story - how many stories have you read or watched that didn't have at least ONE plot hole? When you find a story with no contradictions, it's POSSIBLE that's the real story.

I had that exact idea. Some years back I wanted to work from home but management didn't want to let any new employees have the privilege - only employees who were hired on as remote from years prior when remote was widely acceptable were allowed to do it. I was going to pitch that to my manager - I'll setup an always on video chat in my office so people can just walk in and talk to me without needing to do any junk like send an IM to ask if I can join a video chat or phone call etc...

I never did it though, and covid has allowed me to be remote for years now, although that will likely end soon.
