Any over/unders on whether Apple will go through with the App Store ban?

Apple is the Balenciaga of computer products.

They produce products for vacuous people. They are vastly over-priced symbols of status, jewelry for idiots. It's just a fucking computer or a phone. 99.9% of the population just use their computer to access a web browser, and 95% use their phone to just make phone calls and check text messages and on rare occasions, access the internet.

Nothing else.

Any device will do, but it won't have the status.

People are so fucking dumb, that they still use MS Office, instead of LibreOffice, which has been free for 2 decades, and is practically a drop in equivalent. They don't think. They just consume - and if you think I'm lying:

Try it.

Drives me fucking crazy that people pay for something that huge groups of people have made accessible for no cost in order to prevent a monopoly, and they STILL let the monopoly form.

Most people just go with what they know. Smartphones have especially dumbed down the entire Tech user base.

I liked Apple products okay but I also like to use other stuff.
I really like my pixel phone and Android.
I recently bought an inexpensive Asus and put Linux on it.
Maybe Apple is considering a copy of Twitter someday?
Liberals who all have iPhones would use it.
Edit: I have avoided Microsoft Office and never bought it.

The billionaire's next mission should be a user controlled smartphone. with complete control over where and how they install apps. Directly from a desktop USB connection, to a web link, to 3rd party repository. No App store, creators will decide on delivery. and the user trusts them or not.

But then the carriers will start to fuck around. Time to take over T-MOBILE too.

I access Twitter though a browser on my phone. Not having an app isn't going to affect me, and I have no idea why anyone would use an app when a webpage works just fine.

That is true for Word - Write, PowerPoint - Impress, and Excel - Calc, but Base is not a good substitute for Access.

Who does Xi have more power over: Musk or Cook?
14   Karloff   2022 Nov 30, 2:57pm

I hope they do remove it and Musk makes his own phone in response with an app store that isn't a walled garden like Apple's.

These people and companies that hold others hostage only do so through consent of the hostages. Squeeze too hard, and they'll view life without you as preferable to whatever convenience you offer them.

I wonder if Musk merely exploits Twitter in the long run, sells it back to the MSM/DARPA for an extortionate ransom and walks away with a dandy profit.

I listen to / read a few people that have been kicked off Twitter. If they are not allowed to return, Elon Musk is doing a headfake.

Remember, he's tightly connected with the government. The PROMISE to return free speech to Twitter may just be an empty one. We'll see.

Apple limited a crucial AirDrop function in China just weeks before protests
A Nov. 9 software update included an additional AirDrop feature applying only to iPhones sold in mainland China.
AirDrop, which allows users to share content between Apple devices, has become an important tool in demonstrators' efforts to circumvent authoritarian censorship.
The feature relies on wireless connections between phones, rather than internet connectivity, placing it beyond the scope of internet content moderators.

Can't comment on the database. You might very well be right.

This is life though. Apple created the market place to sell apps, music, movies, etc. No different than Walmart or Target with goods.

Put this way, if you could sell 100 widgets at 5% on your own or 10,000 at 30% to a retailer, what would you do? You're going with volume and paying a higher margin 10 out of 10 times. That's the Apple app store. Does it suck for developers? Yes. Can you make a living selling it on your own, maybe. But it's much easier to get it in front of a billion people potentially. That's what you pay for.

I agree with Rich though on software. There are plenty of free alternatives to a lot of software products. Only software that I'm fucked with is Adobe. Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom are my go to's. I dumped them though as I wasn't using them enough. I hate phones, but most photo editing can be done via phone at this point outside of major corporate advertising. Fact is most people are looking at it on their phone anyway, so editing it there makes the most sense really.

In 1984, Apple advertised itself as the antidote to Orwellian totalitarianism and Big Brother. Today, Apple proudly manufactures “telescreens” to let Big Brother crush the proles. @tim_cook is a disgrace and you can tell he knows it.

Elon said that he talked to Tim
and the latter has assurd him that the removal of the Twatter app from the Apple was never in the cards.

And simply deleting your own twits is hardly as Orwellian, as it's being implied here. (Yes, I know, in the book the Party alters past issues of all newspapers constantly to distort history, so deleting your own posts is a small subset of this behavior).
