#aljazeera Al Jazeera is an excellent and trusted news source. Sadly they reported a few hours ago that the death toll from the Turkey/Syria earthquake has gone above 33,000. A couple of days ago, I was in my study watching the 17:00 CBS local news. A comment was made that the building codes in the earthquake area are quite similar to the building codes in California. This got my attention. Today the New York Times confirmed that the area hit had tough building codes. They admitted that these strict codes were rarely enforced. When there is a serious earthquake in California, the death toll can go into the "low one hundred." Compare this to the death toll in the earthquake zone in Turkey/Syria. Tragically this death toll is headed higher.
I am thankful that none of our readers live in this area. Some readers have friends and family members in the area that have reported themselves safe.

Rest and relax today. Eat some healthy food. Get some exercise. I shall be in church today giving thanks to my higher power for my good fortune in life.

Concrete buildings can be unsafe.
I'm afraid inside some houses in Mexico with concrete roofs; if there's a quake, the roof will squash me like a bug.

Similar numbers were killed in the 1988 earthquake in Armenia, not far away.

Where are the bleeding hearts for Syria? US MIC decimated the country in the past few years, and US government continues to impose sanctions starving people to death, that they did not lift when this earthquake happened.

I guess foreign countries only get support if they give enough backdoor deals to the current president's family.
