Haiti famously rejected the vax and it’s 189 on the list. Very low deaths from COVID.
But let’s take a non-island country with a large population… India. Also couldn’t accept the deal with Pfizer because wants to do their own testing. It’s 145 on the list with over 1.4 BILLION people. If we had done as well, we’d have 128,180 deaths in the USA.

India did. It also has 3rd world healthcare and reporting. They also have 6.9% of their population over 65. Compared with 16.9% for the US and in the 20%s for Europe. Old age was the primary driver of Covid deaths. The Western countries have more elderly.

It's unmistakable and very bad.

0.1% is one in 10,000 deaths in the 25-64 age group. Therefore, if you have 31 million in the age cohort, that means that 310,000 have died. This age cohort is the least likely to die of any age group - they are the floor of the "bathtub" distribution for human mortality. A better gauge of the siesmic shift in mortality would be to compare deaths in elderly populations to deaths in the 25-64 group. I don't know the exact numbers, and I'm not going to do an ignorant person's homework for him, but you should expect the mortality rates to be orders of magnitude lower like maybe on the order of 1000 or 10,000. If historical rates (pre 2020) display this relationship, but now the younger group is dying at 100X the historical rate relative to elderly, then this is a huge problem.
