We need a network of TV stations to speak what the mainstream corporate TV stations will not

Is it possible? How much money would it take? Could the FCC block it for political reasons?

Maybe it would best be done as a kind of pirate radio thing, but do most people even get their TV signal over the air these days, or from cable? I don't know, since I never watch TV.

OTA would be the best bet. Getting on a cable network would be a bitch. Problem is you need to get the marketing out there and channels would be different in every market OTA style. Cable stations aren't going to air ads for another station, so that's DOA. It would have to be internet marketing.

Biggest problem is content and sad as it is, production value. Has to be good and that's gonna be hard to come by with no ad revenue. I'm not sure how OTA tracks viewers as well now that it's digital signal or if they're still using Neilson to determine ratings. Then factor in the broadcast fees and it's a tough task. The major, non-niche networks made it that way. TV broadcast is essentially an organized monopoly. Sure they'll let in the likes of HGTV for housing design and other BS, but news is a good 'ole boys club. Tough nut to crack.

Ultimately it's the internet and streaming. I would watch OTA though if it was good content/news. Maybe someone starts an aggregated system where you get what I'd like is Libertarian/Conservative views. Basically a dozen or so youtube/rumble channels. They create the content, ad free, sell ads and they get a cut.

I rarely watch television though. When we do it's usually comedy streamed or local news affiliates in the background. If you combined a bunch of youtube/rumble and other services in an OTA setup, I think you'd maybe get some advertisers. OTA is real estate really. Say Tim Poole is looking to expand. Being on OTA in Chicago has a chance to make him more money. There's money that could be made, but I have no idea about the FCC and air rights.

I grew up on 5 channels. With the channel XX.1 or XX.2 I think I have about 90 channels OTA currently. So it's possible. Marketing them is the issue.

Besides the billions required to set up or rent the studios and production equipment, talent, etc. and negotiate with affiliate transmitter stations, there's also the question getting broadcast bandwidth from the FCC. The last OTA broadcast network to do this from scratch was FOX back in the 1980's (CNBC et. al. were launched from existing networks).

Things might be different now, but there are virtually insurmountable "regulatory" hurdles (AKA cancel/censorship by NSA/CIA/FBI/GloboHomo) facing a based news service.

TV is the past, network news is a dinosaur headed for extinction. What we need are local reporters who have an online presence, and are committed to reporting the truth about any story.

There's lot of alternative media for big stories, but we don't have many local alternative, or any that I know of.

Rating wise I'd agree. TV can still be a useful tool though with OTA. The antennas are not going away and are minimal maintenance in urban areas. I get Chicago affiliates 60 miles away.

The problem with OTA is that it's generally only watchable in urban and suburban areas unless you have a nicer antenna at home. Basically purple and blue areas, so maybe OTA is not the best option.

The internet is obvious, but it's also a distraction. I watch a Ukrainian war video and then a cooking video and go down that rabbit hole. It's the reason legacy broadcast media has somehow stayed somewhat relevant. People are to lazy or distracted to find online sources.

People consume information on their own schedules. You'd be better off with a daily podcast. Besides who is your target audience? Boomers? Gen Z? Melenials? Each consumes media differently and has a different level of trust in what they see / hear / read.

Forget about the dinosaurs still watching mainstream propaganda, those people will either wake up and change, or die with their media.
