It was the sixth straight decline. The vacancy rate rose to 1.87 percent from 1.69 percent, while owner concessions also climbed. Manhattan landlords have retreated after 23 months of raising prices to make up for ground lost during the recession. Median rents increased 15 percent from the bottom in November 2009 and were approaching the 2006 high of $3,265 a month before they began to slide in September.

Yippee - now it will only cost you $3100 a month to rent that run down POS instead of $3265. Good times, good times.

Meanwhile I'll live in my 2500 square foot SFH because I don't want to live elbow to asshole with the rest of the lemmings. NY holds no appeal for me, at any price.

people live in NYC for the convenience. No car required, usually 15 min door to door for work, good jobs, better pay, anything you need is just steps outside your apartment, and lots to do all everywhere in the city.

And the pizza. I hear they have awesome pastrami sandwiches too.

They are to die for! Economically speaking anyway.

Don't forget the scones.

Scones are for tea drinkers with a limp wrist and a lisp. Real men drink coffee with their bagels.

Clotted cream rocks, you upstart colonist!

Don't mind him, that's just the spotted dick talking.

Well, the weather must be better than where I live? Today the high is still in the high teens and single digit lows. But I have gotten used to this and actually went out for a 4mi hike!!! Tomorrow it will go above freezing and some more snow will melt. It is nice to see the ground after so many months!!

This year though, I hear the east coast got clobbered with snow-does it snow in the NYC or just upstate-near the lake?

Next you'll be pushing slice cake and flat white you overbearing colonizer. Overbearing colonizer times 2 to me since I'm also a kiwi citizen.

And the price you pay is outrageous rent and having to put up with people EVERYWHERE. I like my fellow man and female, but I like my space too.

better pay

Better be incredible pay. But from what I've seen, not all jobs offer better pay let alone incredible pay.

Jeez, talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

Don't you have a flock of sheep that needs shearing?

People just enjoy living in huge, writhing rat piles of other people, it energizes them.

In NY, you can get 50 cent blowjobs from puke coverd drunks having DTs outside of every subway entrance, where else in the USA can you find that?

Nope, not pot calling kettle black. Brits are the colonizers, kiwis are the colonized. The queen is still the head of state actually. All the sheep shearing is over in the awatere valley. Got some grapes to harvest though.

sbh says

A Kiwi with his "toad in the hole" don't share his sheep. Go get yer own

Honest officer it's not what you think, I was just helping the sheep get over the fence.

Mostly sauvignon blanc locally, some pinot noir and chardonnay. Not my grapes, I would hate to own a vineyard, just help friends sometimes when it's really crunch time.

It is true; to taste right, a bagel must be boiled in New York City water, preferably from Manhattan below 50th street.

Nice! I did that myself a few months ago. Lots of work but I get a share of some of the finished product.
