Lotta bullshit at work...

Anyone else dealing with a shitton of bullshit at work lately?

When I went remote a year ago, it was fine. I had a clear cut job role. Had my job down to a science, and even picked up a second gig and have made a killing this last year. Primary job I've been with the company 6 years and have saved the company more times than I can count. Multiple raises and promotions. Secondary job, about a year, I do what's required and no one complains.

Then out of the blue, it's like both jobs went toxic in the last two weeks, management has become completely unrealistic in their projects and deadlines (both jobs), and other projects that other people royally fucked up, they are pushing on others to clean up.

My one coworker just quit due to this, and I'm on the brink of quitting one or both jobs due to the same.

For example, the latest "demand" was for me to complete someone elses four to six month project in just two days.

I work fine under pressure, but I refuse to inherit dumpster fires.

Financially I'm in a good position to leave. I've been building a biz on the side and make almost full time income with it as well. I'd like to take a few months off, decompress, travel a bit and then go into my biz full time.

But I find the timing and similarities between both sets of leadership to be incredibly similar, panic driven and fucking weird.

Am I the only one?

Sorry for the rant. Shit got to me this week. Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with a similar trend.

Like the incredibly shrinking candy bar, or weird sh*t like the Trader Joe Marina Sauce going from 28 to 25 ounces with same nominal price, this is another manifestation of the Stealth Inflation.

No sudden project urgency for me.

Oddly, I actually just got a totally unexpected 9% raise, even though my coding productivity this past yr has been terrible. I wonder if maybe I got flagged as an attrition risk, and maybe the company is approving budget increases for raises to keep people from leaving to competitors. I'm not really sure if the market is hot. Maybe - the back to the office dance seems to be starting for tech, which means its a time where people may start interviewing and starting new jobs.

Someone in upper management wants to sabotage their proprietary software and infrastructure, so they can move to a cloud based erp and MS Devops operation.
It makes them relevant, and it builds their resume. I just ended a six year gig on January 26 my last day.
New management impowering people not qualified to make important IT matters is very toxic and not productive for those earning a big salary.
Owners look there first when they start tightening the belt.
I was happy to leave them to it in the end.

Just (so far) voluntary CRT trainings/meetings/cult-meet-ups and some people feeling the need to tell virtuous stories in unrelated meetings.

I actually think that could be a theory. Mental effects seem to be common. In woke lefties, the springs might really start popping out.

Yeah this seems incredibly similar to where I'm at now with my primary gig.

I ditched my old role over a year ago because I was tired of it, so I transitioned to a new project and they hired a new guy to fill the slot.

This new guy lied about his experience and when he had to build out a new system and do a migration of the old (a year later) he fucked up, lost 7 years worth of company data, and all reporting data is lost. It can't be recovered or rebuilt without several years of effort. So many custom scripts and db queries that it's literally years of effort to build something similar.

Since I built the first two iterations of the system, they have this shiny idea that I can fix it in 2 days.

I told my supervisor I'm not jumping into this dumpster fire, but if they push it on me, I might be giving notice.

I was thrown out of the office for a couple of days alleged coughing and sneezing. Now I did have allergies that were bothering me at the time

Wow, it must suck to be a victim of dimwit managers.
It reminds me of the movie “Office Work.”

It’s everywhere; my friend is an anesthesiologist in S. California and in the OR someone will play music with a Bluetooth speaker, a scrub tech or something, and he can’t say turn that shit off.
He has to focus and prepare for the case and it’s distracting and annoying.
Sometimes a nurse fucks up and he corrects the mistake but he must be very careful not to be blunt about it.
Another nurse in charge of the schedule might come in and ask why they are not getting the cases done more quickly.
It’s as if everyone is trying to fuck the OR up, but it’s scary to hear about.
If the anesthesiologist has a bad day at work someone might go to the morgue not the recovery room.

Migrations are hard to do right. Better have someone qualified to it with lotsa experience.

lol migrations are extremely hard to do right. Better have someone qualified to it with lotsa experience.


Yup. Agree.

Before he began, I gave a pretty clear warning to backup the old db - but him and my boss both fucked this one up and said "no, we're gonna start from scratch."

This is one of those situations where "poor planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on mine."

Their sword to fall on. Not my dumpster fire.

I live by that rule.

I've heard it called under promise and over perform. Common sales tactic to say you can do something in an unrealistic time instead of giving yourself a buffer. Sure you'll get the job over promising, but can you get others when all your past customers are pissed or you ended up with too much work to satisfy them all? Recipe for disaster.

Always give yourself room for error and unpredictable circumstances. Kid getting sick. Flat tire. 4-5 hours or a day off could throw off any project big or small. Hell with covid now I'd leave a bunch of padding in scheduling even if it's work from home stuff. Referrals are gold if you're in an industry where you get them (most are). Shit 10 bad reviews out of 100 could literally put you out of work. A good chunk of people will tend to focus on the negative reviews and move on.
