This may or may not be interesting, but here you go.
I’m visiting in Baja California Sur Mexico.

1. My female friend had an expat boyfriend who had a heart attack up in Sonora state, near Yuma Arizona.
He was German with a USA green card or maybe a citizen (ex wife was American).
When arriving at the Mexican hospital he was kicked out: “He’s a gringo so he can go to a hospital in Yuma.”
He later died shortly after arriving at a hospital in Yuma.

2. He cannot be buried in Mexico; nobody can be buried on Mexican soil who is not Mexican.

3. Recently an American was kidnapped by assholes from Sinaloa (we should bomb it).
He was saved by the Mexican police it’s likely that the neighbors of the kidnappers called the cops.
While driving last night, I listened to the story on the radio, and the guy was complaining that the authorities acted promptly because the victim was American, but would not have been so concerned about a Mexican.

4. A Mexican female friend of mine was a bit drunk and told me to avoid buying any place down here; “Mexicans are racist and they will constantly try to fuck with you because you are American.”

Well, that PLUS the whole law against non-Mexican citizens owning land in Mexico, especially within a certain distance from the coast.

Strange. In my RichFuck neighborhood, I watched one of the gardeners trying to mow the lawn while staggering around totally drunk. He eventually just collapsed next to the lawn mower and his mates picked him up.

Mexicans and Central Americans especially hate Germans I hear because they are utterly obnoxious and expect them to be on time. No manana at all.
3   clambo   2021 Nov 24, 11:08am

It’s in the Mexican Constitution (article 27) that foreigners cannot own property either near the border nor the coast (100 Kilometers).

People are using two “workarounds”.
1. A trust is established in Mexico, and you are the beneficiary or trustee or both or whatever.
A bank establishes it and charges a fee each year ($500) to maintain it.

2. A business is established and registered for the location. A foreigner can own a business in Mexico.
The downside is that businesses must report to the Hacienda (tax) department and an accountant is hired to do this.

The heart attack guy had been living in Mexico for 8 or more years. He had no other residence.

Another guy who’s lived in Baja California Sur for over 20 years also died, and it was the same deal.

My friend has the remains of both guys and doesn’t know what to do with them yet.

Cremate them and fertilize the yard. Problem with remains solved AND a lush lawn! WIN-WIN!
Or mail them to US Congress.

I have to say that seems true to me. I studied in Austria for a year and Germany for another year. The Germans may not be into fun like the Italians are (and Austrians are basically German whether they admit it or not). The Swiss are definitely more German than the Germans, though they would not admit that either.

The Dutch, oddly, are a lot of fun, though linguistically very close to the Germans.

Baja has a desert, right? Problem solved.

The complications of getting a foreigner's body out of Mexico aren't a closed secret. It's almost RUDE of the decedents as longterm expats not to have set up arrangements for the event of their demise, so as not to burden their travel companions or stateside relatives.
11   Ceffer   2021 Nov 26, 2:40pm

What does any of this have to do with donkey shows?
12   NuttBoxer   2021 Nov 26, 3:30pm

I haven't noticed any racism any of the times I've been in Baja. My wife on the other hand has encountered discrimination from other Mexicans. In my experience ethnicities tend to discriminate against their own.
13   clambo   2021 Nov 26, 6:24pm

To clarify what happened to the two deceased guys; they were cremated and their remains are in wooden boxes.

One guy had a brother in Germany, the other older guy had no living children, so basically nobody from the USA cared about it.

I have stories of Mexicans being rude to me but they are also sometimes very nice to me.

Females are sometimes very nice to me since I am bilingual and can afford to buy them dinner etc.

This is very shameful stuff here, pal.

I'm old fashioned and extremely offended by such images.

You should be ashamed promoting such content.

Life is short and time and energy wasted on sexual fantasies is of no value to you or society.

You have a duty in life to yourself to be the best so your success can help other as well as yourself.

That duty is ignored when energy and time is devoted to pointless sexual fantasies.

Yes other time wasting activities exist, yes of course.

However sexual fantasies and sexual intercourse purely for pleasure is expends the greatest energy and time by far.

Drugs is the only thing that is worst than sexual fantasy.

Sexual fantasy is of course preferable to drugs, if one was forced to choose by gunpoint.

@HunterTits - I agree. I've had unlimited access to pornography since 1990. You will, I guarantee, will become bored with it. No matter what you think you like, given enough of it, you will bored of it - of anything. I think partially the reason billionaires are such assholes if they are just fucking bored.

Double, or triple jabbed?
24   clambo   2021 Nov 27, 6:08am

Addendum tidbits

1. There is a common marine snail or conch called “pussy snail.”
2. Un whitened sugar can be found in a compressed cone shape in the store, called “a pussy of sugar.”

All great ideas except for the fact that nobody can be trusted when dealing with this amount of money.

When someone tells me that an acquaintance died, I always ask if they had been jabbed and invariably I always get "I don't know" or a flat NO. Nobody that gets jabbed ever dies

For Komputodo,
The sugar cone is called a “panocha”.

I can tell anecdotes of being disliked and treated rudely simply for being a “gringo” in Mexico.
I have also been blamed for not knowing the arcane rules of machismo.

However, it’s not so different from a foray into Riviera Beach Florida where the residents generally might not like me either.

I don’t socialize in big groups in Mexico unless they are from the graduate school my friend is a professor in.

I’m surprised that people are buying up land and houses for millions of dollars using the trust workaround ( Fidecomiso)

I don’t know if I want to buy anything but I can spend a little money if I’m interested enough.

A friend of mine is offering $48,000 for a crummy house on a little lot in Pescadero BCS which is walking distance to the beach, although I would ride a bike. From the top of the lot you can see the Pacific Ocean, so she’ll build something with the view, she’s Mexican so she will truly own it.

Baja California is wonderful! I've never had any trouble going down there for surf trips, but I've heard stories of rip-offs (and worse). I think there's always been banditry near the Cuatro Casas area.

The Pescadero/La Pastora area is great!
33   Al_Sharpton_for_President   2021 Nov 28, 10:39am

My memorable Baja story. On a summer break from grad school, I enticed two friends to take a drive to Ensenda, after picking up some "provisions" in Ocean Beach. We had a nice drive down the coast, stopped off in Rosarito for a fine seafood meal, and got to Ensenada in the evening, and after a brief stroll, spent time in Hussong's Cantina, having more food and cervezas and enjoying the music and the scene. Upon exiting Hussong's we were approached by some locals, and my friend, who sopke Spanish, began conversing with them. One of the fellows kept offering me a hit from a bottle of tequila, which I deferred, hating tokillya, but not wanting to seem unfriendly, I put it to my lips to take a fake swig, when these policemen jumped out at us and arrested me. A total set up.

I was ushered to to waiting police car, and once inside, I asked if I could settle the fine on the spot, offering my remaining $40 USD to the cop. He looked at the two twenties, and shook his head no. Not enough dineros.

Off we went in the car to a nearby jail. I was taken inside and booked, and the cops were very polite and respectful, and walked me down a row of jail cells to one that housed only Americans. On the way, we passed a cell full of Mexican hookers who were trying to grab me and were catcalling me.

Once inside the cell with the Americans, I looked around and saw a sorry crew of reprobates, and the distrubing shithole at the end of the cell. No toilet. What unfolded was right out of the movies. "What are you in for, kid?" "Drinking in public." Uproarious laughter!

Anyway, I settled in, and was quite worried about how I was going to get out, as I would never have been able to find the jail if this fate befell one of my collegaues, and I had been to Ensenada a few times before. I was approached by two surf rats from the LA area, and I asked them how they wound up in the jail. They said they were getting wasted in an upper floor room of an Ensanada hotel and began throwing shit out of the window. "What did you throw out?", I asked. "The TV, a couch, some other shit." they replied. "Why?" They just shrugged their shoulders. They made me promise that whoever got sprung first would try to get the other out, and they gave me a US number to call one of their parents.

My friend who spoke Spanish was able to find the jail, and badgered the police about how his dad was in the diplomatic corps, which may have been true actually, and what an outrage this was. He paid my fine, $140 I think, and I was freed, And I never did call that number.

True story.
34   Ceffer   2021 Nov 28, 5:49pm

Only time I have ever been to Mexico was Ensenada from LA, because an English lady medical student I was escorting around wanted to go. I found it kind of depressing. Americans were acting like a bunch of loud, drunken louts everywhere we went. I kept wondering when we were going to get robbed, but we made it back OK.

Around San Diego, a lot of people I met went across the border for drugs they can get openly and, of course, the brothels and bars. I wouldn't go into a Mexican bar unless dragged in chains.

This also repeatedly happened to me in Chicago, by black people. They know nothing about me but how I look, but mistreated me for it. Just ride public transit for a while and see how the black toll booth workers or bus drivers treat you.

Not all, of course, but enough that it's unmistakable.

Are we allowed to talk about black racism? Or maybe even that is a mistake, since I'm pretty sure the whole race issue is intended to prevent us from looking at and talking about the oligarchy.

My last trip from SD to Mexico was just before covid. Right after we got past the last guards holding machine guns where the taxis are there was blood all over the ground. Lots and lots of blood.

The taxi drivers had assassinated an uber driver for moving in on their turf. We took a taxi.

Used to go all the time. There was a group of bars across from Plaza Rio(the mall), call Plaza de Zapatos, or more commonly "La Plaza". Great local bands, good variety of rock(one place played exclusively 80's American/European rock). Has since been turned into a food and craft beer area, and while the food and drink have improved, the dancing and music have not...

Its interesting when americans talk about their experiences in Mexico, it always revolves around tourist traps and resort areas...never about spending several months in a small town when there isn't a gringo to be found, no english on TV, no american products, and people live a simple humble life. Where you have to integrate with Mexicans. It would be like a chinaman going to the USA and spending all his time in SF Chinatown. Or a foreigner with money spending his vacation in Las Vegas and at Disneyland.

That's true of 95% of any tourist going anywhere.

When I went to Paris for work, I avoided the American hotel, I walked to work, and on my time off I wandered the city. When I went to Australia I went to Canberra and hung out at local bars for 2 weeks. I'm originally from NY but have lived in Colorado, Boston, Indiana, and am now in Silly Con Valley. I have never been to Alcatraz, I've never bee in the Statue of Liberty or Empire State building or the WTC towers (old or new).

The best part about being in a new place is experiencing the culture of that place. I don't know why people travel a couple hundred or thousand miles just to meet other Americans and/or tourists.

I hear what you are saying but how about taking it a few steps further...You got to france and spend several months in a small farming community where nobody speaks english. You dont go there to work, you go there just to experience how the common folk live in "FRANCE" . Where your skills as a coder or investment banker or whatever have much less value than that of a person that can get a broken down car running or fix a washing machine. Things that are important to common folk. Not many people actually try that.
