I don't get the vibe members here are hugely into sports (which is fine). But what sports does everyone enjoy in their free time?

My tops that I play are:
Volleyball
Golf
Ping Pong
Pretty much any yard game
Tennis

Sports I watch the most are:
Golf

Funny, just realized that I've completely stopped watching sports basically. I'll only catch the final round of golf on TV 4-5 times a year. I'm done with the major sports, and that's even when my local teams are doing well. Baseball would be in the mix if the White Sox could stay healthy and use that talent.

Sorry, just trying to get a thread going that isn't all politics, covid, Ukraine, Indian, or crypto.

“A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.” – Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 19, 1785

Lately scuba diving.
Previously surfing.
Shooting once in a while is fun.
TV sports college football at someone’s place occasionally.

Swimming. Did my first open water swim in the SF Bay last week, plan to do it again the coming weekend.

I enjoy the activities that shouldn't be called "Sports" but are, because Howard Cosell needed some footage for his ABC Wide World of Sports Sunday Show in the off seasons of Major league sports.

I was the guy that made it a point to be tagged out first in grade school recess games, so I could go sit on the sidelines and hit up on girls.

I'm missing the gene that makes people excited to watch other people run up and down a field either hitting a ball or kicking a ball. Since I'm not inclined to watch such activities, I don't have a favorite celebrity baller I want to emulate, therefore, I'm not inclined to play those sports myself. I was always into music, art, creativity, and teaching myself stuff that I know nothing about.

I want to keep surfing until I drop dead.
I was a trail runner until around 50. Now I do HIIT workouts instead.

MTB, kayaking, scuba.

Haven't watched any sports on TV for almost quarter of the century. Strangely enough I enjoyed watching soccer matches in Europe, but only on the stadium - TV coverage of it sucks even more than it sucks for other ball games.

There is a GWS currently on the hunt for OW swimmers - it nibbled on some unfortunate dude at Lovers Point couple of days ago.

When I was a kid, a knee boarder (Lew Boren?) got hit by a great white at Lover's Point. I think his board was later found with a big chunk missing. I always thought about that guy when I surfed to the north of Santa Cruz.

At Waddell Creek a big shark swam behind and below us as we sat on our boards; we paddled in and called it a day.

In Australia they had no idea how many sharks were lurking near their major beaches until
they started flying drones over the water. A perfect illustration for "the less you know - the better you sleep" concept.

Me too. Now I do a lot of biking.

I used to play ping pong every day when I had a job, but don't play anymore because I don't know of a convenient table.

I also try to lift weights a bit every day.

Cyclist here. Good way to bike around Baltimore with some chalk and write Fuck Biden all over the place. I do not watch sports.

I won't swim in the ocean. One time at San Gregorio Beach we saw a massive shark fin swimming around within yards of the shore. The bay is a different matter.

Ever since Americans / Europeans etc settled the region, there has only been one documented case of a shark attack inside the Bay. It wasn't even a person. It was a dog. In mudflats around Hayward or San Leandro, over 100 years ago.

Biked the Bay Bridge recently to Treasure Island, I noticed the ferry is now up and running. Time for a mid-Bay meetup?

Used to play basketball since forever, but just can't find a good game anymore. Started surfing after college, but have barely been out past few years. Went for a few weeks ago, but ended up super inflaming an already sore area in my wrist, so out again. Got the ergonomics fixed, so just waiting till I can get back in the water. Also enjoy hiking, and walking my dogs.

Was an avid sports fan as a kid, but once I had kids of my own gradually stopped following everything.

The older I get, the wiser this sounds.

Bodybuilding, though not a sport.

Want to take up rucking for endurance, as hamster wheels are boring.

Small catamaran sailing, but haven't recently. Trying to think of some kind of "Catayak" I can put on the top of my car.

@EBGuy this sounds interesting to me.

Is there a bar or other place to meet near the terminal on Treasure Island?
21   EBGuy   2022 Jun 30, 5:31pm

It's a bit of a mess due to all the construction right now. I believe the Island Market and Deli may be the only game in town...
22   HeadSet   2022 Jun 30, 7:11pm

Biking and kayaking. I hate driving a car short distance when I can bike. I will throw a football, baseball, or shoot hoops, but not any actual games anymore.

There's Woods Island Club: https://goo.gl/maps/q4mrRZR4YfhsHMga7
and there's Mersea Restaurant Bar and Venue: https://goo.gl/maps/PFrbypGC7mPnadzn7

I guess you go to King Station then start peddling?

@EBGuy Is a building on Treasure Island from the same blueprint as the Berlin airport?

I think you actually could kayak to Treasure Island. It's not that far.

The Treasure Island building was set dressed as the Berlin Airport for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
