There’s nothing like finding your dream home.

And in Portland’s Southeast neighborhood, surely someone’s future dream home has just been listed on the market. It has it all: two bedrooms, three baths, a rustic fireplace, a spacious loft, and the quaint charm that comes with its 1940s provenance. There’s just a slight catch.

“Unfortunately there are squatters on the property and seller does not have resources to remove them and is willing to negotiate the price for a buyer to take the risk of closing,” reads the home’s listing on Realtor.com. It’s enough to give any prospective homebuyer pause. It gets even better—the home is listed for $330,000.

Lots of luck.

The home sits at 5256 SE Flavel St. in Portland, Oregon, and the listing features a number of photos that illustrate just what condition the home is in. For one thing, there aren’t any pictures of the inside of the house. And the exterior shots aren’t exactly thrilling, showing huge amounts of trash and debris strewn about the backyard, along with broken-down cars in the driveway.

And it’s not just the squatters in the listed house that are the problem. The aerial shots clearly show that the neighboring property is also a den of squatters, with a backyard full of garbage. So even if the new owners manage to evict the unwelcome occupants and clean the place up, they’ve still got the next-door basket case to deal with.

The local station KGW8 reports that the neighborhood has been plagued with squatters and homeless drifters who are making the most of the vacant homes. Meanwhile, crime in the neighborhood has skyrocketed, with those hearty souls still living in the area fearing for their safety—and even going so far as to invest in expensive security systems, barricade doors to their homes, and purchase weapons for self-defense.

“It’s a living nightmare,” Dustin Shannon, a 19-year resident of the neighborhood, told KGW8. “There’s no peace of mind, there is no sleeping well at night—every little noise, I’m jumpy.”

“It just gets worse and worse by the day, more and more of them are showing up,” he added. “Stolen cars are showing up, they’ve got a pile of garbage out back that is taller than me. We’ve barricaded our backdoor at this point, blocked it off. We’re not gun proponents, but we’ve invested in that. We’ve got a security system in place and I keep a bat at both my back and front door.”

It’s just another sign of the times in Portland, and as The Post Millennial reports, residents of the Southeast neighborhood have given up on finding any political solution.

“It’s unbearable to watch your whole city become a dumpster fire,” Annette Benedetti, another neighbor, explained. Violence, drug use, and shootings have increased in the area, to say nothing of burglaries. Meanwhile, some neighbors have combined to break into the vacant homes to retrieve their stolen property—and have discovered revolting conditions, with filth, human waste, pornography, and drug paraphernalia strewn everywhere.

Some of the squatters have even set fire to the homes.

One Redfin.com listing for a home located at the corner of SE Division St and SE 154 Avenue summed it all up: “Squatters caused a fire in downstairs bed and living room. Trash inside home. Squatters now removed. Sellers are selling AS-IS and price is adjusted for that. RM1-Buyer to verify zoning and schools, buyer to do due diligence. Corner lot allows for duplex and possibly triplex. Tear down and build single family, multi-family or restore current home. Major smoke damage through-out. Interior viewing with accepted offer. Ok to drive by and walk around.”

Welcome to life in a Leftist utopia.

Squatters and homeless eventually set fire to wherever they perch for any length of time. The homeless camp in an arroyo near our place in Santa Cruz has finally caught the attention of all the neighbors. A Mexican guy has been the mayor, looks like he deals drugs out of there, sometimes brings some hippie chick by with him. He always comes back and starts it up again when it is cleared out. It has a stream and a public park with benches, bathrooms, drinking fountains etc. just a walk up.

It probably will need a big chain link fence and a lock to keep them from the area. I pointed it out to the cops, and said that they will start a fire down there in the forested area and burn down houses eventually. Sometimes they are crazy and just start the fires, sometimes just cooking fires, sometimes passing out with pipes, cigs, drugs etc., but the homeless always start fires where ever they are, it is just a matter of time.

Why are all these homes, in this neighborhood, vacant?

"Hell is other people." Sartre

The bums need to go, but society seems to have crumbled because men aren't allowed to clean out the crap that needs to go.

Most guys I know don't believe in coddling or tolerating the lowlifes.

Aside from the open festering sore of wokeness, Portland has a nice location and the kind of weather I prefer.

Seattle too.

It's a pity about them both.

This is (or was) the dream of many a Californian...

As long as you're ok with the cloudy days. I sort of remember it living in Michigan, but I was a kid. Fortunately there are plenty of small beach towns along the coasts of both states. And smaller is always better.

Just put Madison Avenue's "Don't Call me Baby" on repeat at blast-volume for a month.

lol. You can tell these owners are probably the types who voted for this shit.

Maybe now their lib brains are starting to spark with thought now that the communists they supported have redistributed the home to themselves, while being sheltered by lib law protecting the "right" to squat.

Seattle too.

Mountains. Great hiking. Skiing is not too bad. And access to water, of course, excellent.

Might Oregonians be getting tired of being ruled by violent far-left Democrats?

Not until they darken the gates of their wooded manses and the Visigoths start dragging their bloodied corpses down their stairs with their heads thumping.

Bret Weinsten and Heather Heying just did an episode on why they are leaving Portland.

Looks like they are leaving with some money in their pockets from the home sale.

Nike Co-Founder Tells Democrats to Pound Sand, Donates $1M to Republican Running for Governor in Oregon

The race for governor in liberal Oregon is shocking the nation after failed Democrat leadership has caused a huge backlash from voters in the deep blue state.

The last Republican to win the Oregon governor’s office was Vic Atiyeh in 1982.

This year, the state’s gubernatorial race is neck and neck.

Enter Phil Knight – business legend, co-founder of Nike, and Oregon’s richest man.

Knight just donated $1 million to Republican Christine Drazan’s campaign ensuring the GOP candidate will have the funds she needs to fight Democrat Tina Kotek to the end.

It would be nice if Oregon recovered a little bit of sanity.

You can't SAY violent: They're "mostly peaceful."

It's like that in a lot of cities. One but being that I think it generally has to be 30 consecutive days. Just buy a couple of battery operated hunting cameras that notify you when there's motion. Point them at the doors and all openings. If you see no one going in and have documentation of them leaving you change the locks after 24 hours.

I really don't know a single person that sleeps at their home for 30 days a month all in a row. I know our family doesn't including the kids. I'm at the age though where the slightly older friends (50ish) have kids that are getting married. We have a rule that we don't drive and get a hotel after any wedding. And we just travel a lot and camp a lot.

It varies by jurisdiction, so not saying I'm 100% right, but I'm pretty sure in most states it has to be consecutive if there's no written lease. Either way take care of your property even if not there. It's not that hard. Anyone that lets squatters get in and doesn't have them arrested for trespass immediately is not taking care of things. That's just laziness. Also have some obvious cameras as well.

Problem with squatters is getting caught isn't a big deal. They get free food, water, shelter, heat (cold areas) in jail, so they have nothing to lose outside of a bad drug habit. A drunk will end up in the medical part of jail or a hospital from withdrawals. So free medical care. Some cities are outright incentivizing being lazy by not doing anything. Then homeowners get lazy. Portland is not weird, it's lazy.
