Germany to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

German news magazine Der Spiegel and others published stories on Tuesday evening saying that the government in Berlin had decided to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

This follows a long-running debate on the issue among NATO allies, and comes after Poland formally asked Berlin for permission to send some of its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine earlier on Tuesday.

Spiegel magazine reported that the decision would involve sending at least one company of Leopard 2A6 tanks.

Spiegel attributed its information to government sources but did not identify them. Broadcaster ntv issued a similar report, and the dpa news agency later said its "coalition sources" had said the same. But the government did not immediately comment publicly on the reports.

German-made military equipment can only be sent to third countries with approval from Berlin. Spiegel reported that other European countries, including some in Scandinavia, would also supply their tanks to Kyiv.

Although Germany's Defense Ministry, military, and several other actors would surely have been involved in discussions, ultimately the authority to make this decision rests with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Past motherfuckery of Switzerland from BIS American and European investors in Hitler in WWII resulted in German tanks and planes early on sporting the white Swiss cross of their sponsors. How NASCAR of them. When the climate changed later in the war, the Swiss insisted that they turn the crosses back to the German black center.

Our Great Christial Leader says you nuclear warmongers should cool it:

Vladimir Putin has said the threat of a nuclear war was rising, but insisted Russia had not "gone mad" and would not use its nuclear weapons first.

....he asserted that Russia would "under no circumstances" use the weapons first, and would not threaten anyone with its nuclear arsenal.

"We have not gone mad, we are aware of what nuclear weapons are," he said, adding: "We aren't about to run around the world brandishing this weapon like a razor.

The life expectancy of a tank in battle is less than ten minutes.

Historically, when you get out of the trenches battles happen quick. When two maneuvering armies clash it's usually the one that gets there "the firstest with the mostest" that wins the battle, which is often short, brutal, and deadly for the last or the least.

What are they going to do with these panzers? Do they plan on blitzkrieging through the Donbass until they have reclaimed Crimea?

Like Oscar Schindler said to his wife in the dramatized depiction of life during the war.

“There's no way I could have known this before, but there was always something missing. In every business I tried, I can see now it wasn't me that had failed. Something was missing. Even if I'd known what it was, there's nothing I could have done about it, because you can't create this thing. And it makes all the difference in the world between success and failure.

Emilie: Luck.

Schindler: War.”

24   Reality   2023 Jan 25, 8:53am

The value of tanks is dubious in today's battlefield. There isn't any machine-gun nest or tightly packed infantry for tanks to over-run. Tanks can be easily taken out from above by drones and from the sides by ATGM's (or even old fashioned RPG's against the treads). A dozen or two tanks are not going to be able to do much against dispersed infantry that have good to decent anti-tank weapons.

It's about inventory turnover and new inventory build. Old Russian weaponry gets sent by former Soviet client states to Ukraine, to be replaced by NATO (especially US) countries' weaponry. US sends weapons to Ukraine to be replaced by newer US weapons. Ka-ching rings the military industrial complex cash registers.

Sure you have. Did you even realize we were at war with Afghanistan in 2012? There was no news on the subject. We are still in a state of war with Syria - did you know that?

None of the wars seem to be fought with the intentional of actually winning them. We aren't even given goals. We are bombing Yemen and Somalia right now - to what extent I do not know, but I know we are. Our media doesn't even bother to inform us which wars we are fighting anymore.

Ukraine is actually largely in the background, and although technically we are not in that war, I would bet we are with "advisors". People simply have no idea what is going on, and even if you make good attempts to understand it, it's extremely difficult. I can sometimes discern why we are at war, but its only guesses. We are PROBABLY at war in Syria for Israel's benefit and some oil interests there. Syria really doesn't have a ton of oil but they have some. At the end of the Iraq War, about 75% of their energy exports went straight to Israel.

Most of these wars have energy as part of the reason, but not always for the United States. We're run by madmen and honestly, most government employees have no idea what is going on. They just "do their job". Look at how little Fauci, for example, cares about public health. He is the one that got AZT approved for AIDs, that's a chemotherapy drug, it killed people. He did that in the 1980's, no consequences. It was a pointless drug, the drugs that worked are protease inhibitors. People in charge just take charge, they don't care if they actually are fixing a problem, just that they appear to be working on it. They are completely unconcerned with the results. This is true for all levels of government. Intelligence agencies don't care that they lie, or convict innocent people, they don't care about corruption, they create narratives, they don't care if people believe them. Same for doctors, military experts, think tanks - all of them.

We're in a mad world.

Truth be told, I've pretty much put corporate media on ignore for the last 25 years for the most part. They'll jump on the opportunity to talk about anything other than something that is somewhat relevant to my existence. So many stories go unreported.

I remember when Hunter Biden got a job at Burisma in 2014. I thought "aha! They HAVE to report on this" - nope, single line mentioned than forgotten. I didn't even know he was a crack addict at the time.

Germany calls for urgent replacement of Leopard 2 tanks

Newly appointed Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has said he wants to quickly replace tanks being sent to Ukraine. He has described the urgent funding as "essential."

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on Wednesday that Germany needs to urgently order new Leopard 2 tanks to replace the ones that have been earmarked for delivery to Ukraine.

"For me, the crucial fact is that we have to order new tanks, not in a year, but swiftly, so that production can begin," he told reporters while visiting the tank battalion that is set to send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

Responding to a question of how the German government would fund the procurement of more tanks, Pistorius said, "Frankly, I don't care. It is essential that we can provide them quickly."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a massive €100 billion ($109 billion) fund to modernize the German military following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February last year.

Tanks for Ukraine will only prolong war, line pockets of arms dealers: Erdogan.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has criticized the decision by his NATO allies to provide Ukraine with over 300 heavy tanks to prolong the war against Russia, calling it a “high-risk move.”

“I personally can’t say that sending tanks will resolve this issue,” Erdogan told state broadcaster TRT during an interview on 1 February. “This is a high-risk endeavor and will only line the pockets of gun barons,” he added.

The Turkish leader also said his nation would continue talks with both Russia and Ukraine as part of efforts to find a path to peace.

No they won't. 30 tanks won't change the course of the war, even 1000 wouldn't. This is just an empty gesture and a gift to the MIC. The tanks the US are sending are not modern tanks, they are building tanks with 1970's technology in case they are captured.

Some people say the tanks won't be built before the war is over, I disagree. The US always tries to drag out wars as long as possible to advantage the MIC. Russia I think will draw it out to weaken NATO and to further bankrupt the United States. I believe this war will go on to at last 2025. I cannot see the whole playfield, but I suspect this is Vietnam or Afghanistan all over again. We're in a proxy war, and it's just a matter of time before "advisors" in Ukraine are doing the fighting.

The reason the military has such trouble getting recruits, is that people aren't actually that stupid. Who wants to join the military when we're going to WWIII?

We're fighting a nuclear super power now, not some 3rd rate country with 1960's 4th hand military equipment.

Al_Sharpton_for_President says

The US, seemingly, attempted a coup against Erdogan 2 weeks after he apologized to Putin for the shootdown of the Russian Sukhoi Su-24 in 2015.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Russian_Sukhoi_Su-24_shootdown

Russia's reaction was to boycott Turkey as a vacation spot, it crushed Turkey's economy, they lost 20% in 1 year and ended development of the Turkish Stream. Erodgan relented, apologized, and faced a coup 2 weeks later. Erdogan publicly blamed the US for the failed coup attempt. He might be wrong, however, he believes the US was responsible, so it really doesn't matter if the US was responsible or not.

Erdogan is on Russia's side, at least more than the US' side. He'll never state it, but I think Turkey will be the first to break away from NATO, silently, if they haven't already.
