Simcha:
Who is talking about this as an option? Whoever is with the program that is helping you should be able to provide information.
This is a residential assisted living for the mentally retarded - if your brother has memory problems & psych issues it might be the place for him but don't expect rehab services. From what I could find it's straight board & care. Younger patients with cognitive impairments and psych issues can be difficult to place.
Call them and ask if they have survey (state review) results and who oversees them (if you can get this info from the agency that's helping you with placement that's better, because the place might deny him entry if they think you'll be a pain in the ass). The thing that I'd look for is if they have long-term residents who appear happy. Ask Social Workers or other case managers - most MD's or Psychologists only know what they're told.
Good luck.
Thanks Elliemae. Actually we found a private board and care that he can afford on his SSDI. And he's now enrolled in a day program with L'Chaim. I'll write a review of the hell hole of a nursing home that Alta Bates, Berkeley referred him to.
I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone knows about anything about Palm Tree Home at 2212 e19th Ave, Oakland, CA. It's being talked about as an option for rehab residential services for my 39 year old brother who is suffering from memory problems and psychological issues. I can find no reviews for this place anywhere. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
