This seems like a good spot for me to pop my INVITE AN EXPERT TO FACT CHECK THIS cherry.

And seeing as how I'm pretty much an expert at everything, ill use myself.

Well, here I am.

I've met Chris Martenson and he's OK. I don't think things will get as bad as he thinks they will, but at least he has a lot of good reasoning and data, and he's polite too.

I hope I'm not taking too much creative license when I read duckhead's writing in the voice of the duck from the AFLAC(sp)
commercials, because I find it super funny.

You can "Follow" him and get emails of all his new threads.

I was also thinking of a "Stalk" link which gives you emails of all of a user's new threads, and all their comments too. Should I do that?

I've never met Chris Martenson but I've always felt that he was actually downplaying the ongoing crisis. I've felt he doesn't want to scare his upper middle class user base, or maybe it's just that impoverishment will take much longer to hit them.

John Michael Greer is the tops of the non-technical peak oil writers
http://thearchdruidreport.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

"The economies of the world’s industrial nations are utterly dependent on a steady supply of liquid fuels, and so a steady supply of liquid fuels they will have, even if every other sector of the economy has to be dumped into the hopper in order to keep the fuel flowing. As every other sector of the economy is dumped into that hopper, in turn, the demand for liquid fuels goes down, because when people who used to be employed by the rest of the economy can no longer afford to spend spring break in Mazatlan, or buy goods that have to be shipped halfway around the planet, or put gas in their cars, their share of petroleum consumption goes unclaimed."

"The one exception is the financial sector, since increasing the amount of paper value produced by purely financial transactions involves no additional capital, resources, and labor—a derivative worth ten million dollars costs no more to produce, in terms of real inputs, than one worth ten thousand, or for that matter ten cents. Thus financial transactions increasingly become the only reliable source of profit in an otherwise faltering economy, and the explosive expansion of abstract paper wealth masks the contraction of real wealth."

Agreed, though I think its more he is just being cautious. Also as much as we talk about the exponential function and how the human mind has a hard time with it... well we still have a hard time with it. One day the grass on baseball field is damp, a minute later the crowd in the entire stadium has drowned.

I think now that the election is over we may see some accelerating changes.
