It has been my observation that technological advancement creates more economic opportunity than it "destroys" through automation. It is simply a failure of business to take advantage of that opportunity. Even the "destroyed" opportunity doesn't harm society if the benefits of automation are allowed to be enjoyed by all. For example, washing machines have eliminated the job of manually washing clothes, but we are all better off with washing machines. The bottom line is that there are more opportunities for a high quality of life today for everyone than there was in the middle ages.

The ultimate solution to the Luddite problem is that if technology because so advance that humans do not need to work at all, then the technology should become public property and its production should become public wealth shared by all. After all, the technology exists solely because countless generations of humans have worked and contributed to a society that allowed the development of the technology. But, of course, its questionable if this will ever happen.

Damn. 30,000 people standing in line in 90+ degree heat in Atlanta, GA just to get an application for federal housing assistance. This isn't even for housing; it's just to get in line for the possibility of subsidized housing.

And they had to have police in riot gear! Talk about controlling the masses.

Yeah, the problem is that there is too much of a supply for housing. Maybe, at least this will finally send a message to local governments and the federal government that housing is way too expensive.
