Yes it is. Especially since you also use a separate browser to read the comments of people you are pretending to ignore. I don't know how anyone else can be expected to save you from yourself when you do that.

I read (what you just said) from the front page, without opening another browser, while you are on ignore. But yes there have been times where after seeing the first few lines, I went through the ridiculous trouble of opening firefox to see what else is being said about me, later in the same comment.
I tried pretty hard to make this clear above. I think Patrick gets it.

So now you want someone to make Firefox easier for you to open? Your main problem seems to result from a failure to think logically through basic concepts, in this instance Ignore. Your "ridiculous trouble" opening Firefox suggests you have some additional problems, but those are probably beyond help from anyone online. Why not simply apologize for your tantrums, have a cup of tea when you feel upset, and quit pretending all your problems are someone else's fault?

Clarence 13 followed me hither and yon, sharing the sharp end of his dagger with my back, any time the chance arrived.
There was another, long ago, with a name that mentioned "cheetah", or something close, that had an ongoing issue with anything I posted. I could post "good morning" and this person would argue with me and call me a poopy head. It happens.

Thanks for the suggestion! I wrestled with how to do that.
To improve performance, I keep the latest quote excerpt stored with the topic of discussion, not customized by user. If I were to customize that excerpt per user, I'd have to do 15 more database queries for every home page load. Currently the home page takes 53 queries, so it would then be 68. I'm trying to get it lower to make the site faster. So I could do it, but it feels like a step in the wrong direction.

Marcus, as far as I know, nobody is following you around. Most of the threads where I have commented have nothing to do with you. You accused me of following you to a thread started by someone else where I had posted the very first comment; according to the time stamps, you followed me. But, rather than admit you were simply wrong, you flew into another of your name-calling tantrums, which occasionally spill over into profanity. I have no particular interest in annoying you, but I literally laugh out loud when you pretend to ignore me while using a separate browser to follow me. I am also genuinely puzzled what effect you expected to achieve by calling me names and using profanity, I cannot imagine what environment that would help in. Rather than accept that your own behavior has caused people to stop respecting you, you prefer to repeat your preferred narrative and ignore contrary reality. That isn't a technical issue with any website.

Does anyone else think it strange that "curious2" racked up four "likes" for his unremarkable post at the top of this thread, while Marcus picked up 3 "dislikes" for his recent, only slightly more interesting post?
It's possible Marcus settled on the wrong move metaphor.

Marcus makes enemies the old fashioned way, one at a time. His self-important posts, where he claims that someone is following him even where time stamps show the opposite, merely illustrate his pattern that everything is about how he feels regardless of facts and logic (which he dismisses as weak anyway because it's all about the divine right of Marcus' feelings to trump evidence and reason). His name-calling tantrums do leave a lasting impression, but are otherwise not productive. It took me a while to lose all respect for Marcus, but having arrived at that point, I can see why others have complained about him for a long time.
My ignore function works just fine. I've never wasted the energy to utilize patricks feature, however, I've found that whenever someone else has a differing point of view from mine, and I can't muster up the brain power to debate them, I just quietly fold myself up into my own pocket, and inconspicuously fade away

You don't know that for sure! We all have things in our closets that we don't talk about.
This is a minor suggestion for functionality improvement.
When we ignore another patrick.net user, it also causes their posting of threads to be ignored. This is good.
Minor suggested improvement(although maybe more trouble than it's worth):
I tend to use the main pages, clicking between Politics, Real Estate, and occasionally Religion, suggestions, or couple other.
When I am on the 'front page' of one of these, I can see threads that I have read that have new content - but I can also see a few lines of the most recent recent additions even if from someone I have on ignore. If they are trolling me or otherwise talking about me, and I open it, and heaven forbid respond, then possibly (if it's an emotionally challenged ignored user) they're going to say na na na na na, you said you were going to ignore me, but look at what a poopoo head you are for reading my comment. ha ha,...I trolled you again !!
I don't get sucked into arguing with these types often (with the exception of Dan who I have too many times - he now finally stays on ignore). And I can deal with it, it helps me to be more careful for a while.
But if it's easy, why not block the few lines of the ignored person, and not even show that there is any new activity in that thread ?
This is probably way more trouble than it's worth. If this is a multiple hour puzzle, I don't think it's worth it, unless it's also an interesting problem - for reasons other than the users functionality. Because it's pretty trivial.
