I think it was delightful 78 degrees here today in Northern California. Best of luck to you all. Oh, and our boys won the World Series! Damn, it's good to be here at this moment....until the next big quake.
Looks like I gotta go to work, but I bet it's empty when I get there.
Just looking up and down the street, almost everyone is at home. The guy who works at WalMart, his car is gone, so I think they are open.
I've got water in my basement. The drive in wasn't bad at all. Office just closed though, and I was only here maybe 5 minutes before they sent out the email.
Don't get all hyped up.... I think it's going to be less then is being predicted.... (and I'm right in the bullseye)...
That's how it always ends up in the DelMarVa area. By the time it gets that far north - it's toast.
What's strange is that this storm has a pressure of like 945 mb. which is normally a Cat. 3 storm but it's being reported as a Cat. 1 which is normally 980 - 990 mb...... strange....
The categories are all about wind speed.
This storm is coming in at a totally different direction then any other storm. The shore area looks like it's going to be hit hard. Maybe, but my folks are just reporting the typical rain/wind, noreaster feel.
If you ever wanna surf on the east coast - here's your chance.

feels like earthquake weather here in sf ca to me! bring it on! then watch all those google, intel, apple, facebook etc. shuttle bussed turds high tailin it outta my hood. EEEEEWWWWW, i heard zuckerfucker just moved in too!
Already canceled my hotel reservations for Atlantic City later this week. Of course they might have a hurricane sale for later this week though.
AC is underwater now at low tide (the real water, not mortgage)..
Pics? As of a couple of minutes ago, my local TV news just said that the storm speed has picked up considerably, so it will hit the shore earlier, and hopefully pass by quicker, leaving less rain. It's also going to hit further south, meaning it's aimed at Wildwood, NJ and should go right over the Cape May bridge. I expect the recent beach replenishment in Atlantic City to save the boardwalk.
If you have access to an HF radio and can get yourself over to 7.268 or 7.272 MHZ there are nets going with much better reports on conditions than anything available from the media.
Holy crap.
The apartment building across my balcony got the roof blown away just a minute ago. Things are getting scary now.
No mega-damage yet, but a crane in NYC is falling over:

I have had to vacuum out my basement and empty my shop vac 3 times already. I think it holds maybe 2 gallons before I have to empty it, if even that much. I think my last attempt to fix this problem helped some. This is the first time this year I have had this happen.
Hope for the best but be prepared, this is from Google:

"Historic and life threatening coastal flooding expected through Tuesday morning."
Power is out, but otherwise no worse for the wear thankfully.
Still no power, bit major roads in the area are passable, and some parts of town have been restored.
It passed my neck of woods in Northern Virginia. My apartment management had covered plastic sheet over the roof that's been blown away. I was heck worried about the same thing could happen to my building though, it hadn't happened. I do not have power loss except few flickerings turned my computer on and off yesterday. About 180,000 household in the area lost power, few people's home got busted due to fallen trees. some flooding here and there etc, but that's about it.
But as I see what happened in NJ and NY, I am begining to worry about people there. ECBB logged in and made a post, so I guess he is ok. But TechG is not on yet, and his place is fairly close to Atlantic city, so... Let's hope nothing bad happened to him.
I've been about much of southern\central NJ today,,,,so long as you're not on the coastline,,,the damage from the storms at the end of june were far greater,,,and likely cleared out most of the deadwood.
It could be worse ,but no power means no heat and no, water so in crashing at an old friends tonight.
For what it's worth the outages seem sporadic.
The zombies... tommorow is the halloween. This storm completely ruined the day, so I don't think there will be marijuana smoking kids kicking my door yelling treat or FU. But for those people suffering w/o power, I wish they fix everything soon.
I will go drive to those area I have my eyes on tomorrow, will check what it is like after major storm.
I have no electricity at home. I expect the food in my freezer and refrigerator to last quite some time, since I can't heat the house (essentially the whole house is a refrigerator). Most of my neighborhood is out (as in everything south of a certain point is out). It's dark and boring at home. My cats are way more cuddly though, since I am the only warm thing in the house.
Don't we have someone from Egg Harbor, NJ that posts here often? Anyone heard from them?
Saw one open Dunkin Donuts with power, they had about 25 to 30 cars in line for their drive thru... apparently no one stocked up on donuts before the storm.
Pics?
This video shows the Atlantic City beach being 125 feet before the storm and 25 feet afterwards.
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/10/hurricane-sandy-destroys-atlantic-city-boardwalk/
What it's not telling you is that it was 25 feet a couple of years ago, and the recent beach replenishment probably saved much of the boardwalk.
Atlantic City Boardwalk Cats return:

when the eye of the storm passed over Atlantic City, apparently, according to one of the security guards at a casino, 25 cats were walking single file down the boardwalk looking just fine. And he said the cats he looks after - Pepper, Pewee - were all fine.
I was kind of expecting this to happen, since they aren't letting people on the island:
I am still trying to determine if this is real:
Snopes says its a fake: http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural/sandy.asp
I hope you get power back soon. In the meantime, my advice: whiskey is a perfectly serviceable drink neat at room temperature, and in a pinch can also serve as an antiseptic.

I still have ice in my freezer, and since my whole house is now a refrigerator, I don't have to worry about any of it spoiling.
Oh, wow. That window is damn tight. Mine will let the water in in a no time. Want to know what brand window is that.
Right now I am putting weather tape arround my windows and door edge to reduce this crazy draft I got in the winter.
I surveyed the beaches in 1992 during the last major storm that destroyed the shore. Back then, the boardwalks all got crushed and everyone's house flooded. This is an entire order of magnitude worse. This storm washed away homes. The rest of the state mostly suffered down power lines and trees all over the place. Any town that bordered the water looks like a bomb went off.
Power isn't expected back on till maybe next week, the "locals" are starting to really get "restless".
If you to the TripAdvisr Atlantic City forum people are posting about how they are going to go to Atlantic City when it opens if they still think they are going to not have electricity for some time.
zzyzzx, got your power back on?
It's getting cold. 30's in the morning, 50's in the afternoon definitely is harsh for those people in affected area. Hope they got their power back on so that they can stay warm.
