"The pope is just doing what Jesus would do:Embracing the poor. No one wanted to hear it 2,000 years ago, so, as the story goes, they nailed him to a cross."

But I think that if people want to support capitalism they should lay off the pope and find salvation in the words of Napoleon Bonaparte: “Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich.”

so what was "the force"??

While I am no fan of the Pope at all, God would have been considered a collectivist thief for forcing the Israelites to set part of their fields aside for the poor.

You guys really don't know jack shit about religion do you?

Those guys are white protestants, they have always thought the Pope's robe doesn't go all the way to the floor. It's nothing against the Pope, it's like the Georgia Bulldogs and Carolina Gamecocks doing some pregame smack talking. It's just clean religious fun.

I hope that the Pope will call the people's attention to these kept-hidden price histories:

The people are severely deceived, greatly harming the common good.

If you read Acts of the Apostles, the early church consisted of small communes of like minded believers, who reached out to the marginalized, and preached tolerance, living simply, and doing your part to get your personal spiritual house in order.

personally, I'm torn between two American ideals. The rugged individualist that hates income taxes, speed limits, and the welfare state vs. the reality that a measure of any man, community or country is not how much they have, but how the treat the least amongst them and when the chips are down.

On balance, America tends to be a generous nation always willing to help out when its truly needed. But the growing income gap points to structural problems that will not be easily resolved. Without some frank discussion and true "change" it seems that we're hurtling headlong to a country that pits the have vs. the have nots, with little in between.

Dunno, the pope acts like a true limousine liberal. Stamping his 24 karat gold lame shoes, tossing his gold and vermillion brocade, ermine trimmed robes about, and striking his gold/platinum/diamond encrusted staff on the floor while complaining about the raw deal the poor get.

Problem is, finding the suckers you can steal from to pay for them.

Sometimes? He's an egomaniac who lives only for "being right."
That makes him 100% wrong.

Jesus was a hippie, the mother of all socialists, and if not an out-right commie before the economic system was formally developed, he certainly believed in the fundamental principle of Communism, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.". Jesus was all about that principle.

Socialist dismiss all religions... If Jesus was a Socialist, he would have
expected Rome to be responsible for all the poor. Advocated higher taxes
as did the Senate and Emperor. The two didnt share anything in common.

When did Socialism ever care about the common people ... care to point
to any examples ? How many has your kind Killed and Murdered ?

Most of you really don't know what you are talking about. Most US Christian and jewish(and many others) churches and temples including those of mainline established religious organizations have on a local level, food banks and other assistance for low income members and the surrounding community. At the regional and national level, most operate tremendous services for the poor and homeless.

The issue of government this and that is bs. I thought most of you are rather fond of separation of church and state....

To the best of my knowledge, Jesus never advocated a particular economic system, but rather the "haves" share with the "have nots" of their own free will.
