Between 2011 and 2013, 17 states either closed or agreed to close more than 60 prisons, according to the report. New York led the way, announcing the closure of six prisons in 2011 and six more in 2013. Florida also agreed to shut down 12 prisons, mostly in 2012, and Texas set out to close seven. Probably more money in turning them into apartment buildings.
And if you don't pay your rent, the guards wont open your cell door the next morning after "Lights Out!!".

Some politician, maybe O, will take credit for this but it is just demographics.

I wonder if it will be like the farm bureau where they have more employees today than they had in the 1920s.

But were the prisons being closed the public ones or the private for-profit ones?

I am guessing it was the public ones that got closed, but it SHOULD HAVE BEEN the private ones. No mention of any of this in the article.
