Some of Wall Street and Silicon Valley’s best minds are packing it all in for greener pastures. And they’ve found those pastures in…trailer parks.

“Trailer parks have unusual economics,” says Anthony Effinger, the author of an article on the topic for Bloomberg Markets. “It’s a supply and demand curve that’s super attractive to investors.”

In my childhood, I Had a friend who moved from my neighborhood into a manufactured community. It honestly felt like a 3rd world country. All the kids were as rough as hell and would just hang around in roaming gangs beating upon other groups of kids. I'm not sure if it was due to the fact that they had to be tougher that other kids to not be picked on in school or what. I am sure some parks are better than others and people need to live where they can afford, but I would never raise my kids in a place like that. Good for the retirees who find their slice of adorable heaven there.

Lol@ the part of the article where investors have to deal with the occasional meth lab.

It really depends, because mobile home parks vary a lot from place to place and location to location. Some have really nice, modern manufactured homes that are pretty spectacular inside. Also, some have a really nice sense of community that is sometimes absent from typical suburbs.

Of course, in bad areas, the mobile home parks are the first place the cops go to look for prosties, gangs, drug sales, bikers, stolen goods etc., but those things are pretty easy to identify. Drug dealers and prosties will have traffic of different people at all hours making noise, etc, kind of like a ghetto Motel 6.

In California, if you keep an open mind, you can find very nice living in nice areas in some of these parks at a bargain. I think the nice ones are actually nicer than typical ticky tacky townhomes and condos, and the status barrier keeps them reasonable.

I have had friends and friends' clients who lived in them and they liked the ones they were in.
