Latin people really don't like Asian people I haven't figured out why.
The only thing I can think of, is maybe it's a jealous thing. The Coolies made good and are now on the upper end of the social standing.

You know someone says Yin Xangzo and one instantly thinks scientist or tech, one says Juan Gutierrez and one thinks gardener.

2   Carolyn C   2014 May 17, 2:43am

This woman is clearly mentally ill and has nothing to do with Latin people. For someone who is racist yourself you are one to talk.

3   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2014 May 17, 4:46am

Well Capt does have a point.

I've never heard someone say "chino" and it not be followed by at least a few other laughing.

And usually it's preceded by "pinche".

Oh... get a bunch of Indians, Asians and Latinos in the same room,
and you pretty much get a race war going ... just go to Cupertino
where racist comments btw Asians and Indians are pretty common.

No you are, the only thing you know about people is what your Liberal leaning brainwashing has taught you. It supersedes history, or facts, history is a taboo subject that must be expunged from existence. There is no way to talk about history, with out reaching clear back Melania, centuries, decades or years, and placing everyone who is still alive and in existence in the same context. The two realities of then and now, somehow magically get sucked into a vortex and merge to be the one and the same.

Until you can pull your self from the safety of your Utopian bubble or smoke and mirrors that you live in, and actually know the fucking people you exhibit fake rage over, then you don't know jack shit.

Bullshit. You took a story about an obviously crazy person and tried to make it fit your warped racist agenda. That's why you got 6 "dislikes" in very short order.

Fuck you and fuck anyone who says you "have a point". There is no fucking point there, just a crack-minded ancient asshole who needs to grow up.

Besides, according to you right wing fuckers, Latinos don't exist, right? Aren't you guys always screaming that Sotomayor is white?

Hatred and jealousy are reactions to fear. Racism is a product of fear and group-think. Individualistic people are not capable of racism or any form of prejudice. Selfishness is the greatest good.

Homeboy, let's go roll down Garvey Ave. Ill toss out a pinche chino and bet you laugh like a hyena.

For those of you outside the US southwest, pinche chino = fucking chinaman and is a super common Spanish language phrase uttered frequently by Chicanos, most often to female Asian drivers(actual ethnic/national background is unimportant...they are all china's...pronounced chee nuh, not China) wearing visors and driving like they're blind.

Your limited experience does not constitute the experience of the entire world.

15   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2014 May 17, 9:15am

Hmmmm...you didn't address the issue. Going by your screen name I'm assuming you are familiar with Chicano culture. Oh another BTW for anyone unfamiliar, Chicanos are people of Mexican descent largely born in the US(ie second generation and later Mexican-americans.) this distinction is important because new immigrants from Mexico largely couldn't give a rats ass one way or the other about Asians. But for whatever reason, the Chicano population persistently holds a grudge against Asians in general.

And my experience is hardly limited. Considering my family is from the areas just east of DTLA, and considering I grew up in an area tht was almost entirely Asian and Latino, and considering I grew up in basically the hotbed of Chicano culture, I'll defer to my own opinion as expert on the matter. Furthermore, being neither Latino nor Asian, I'll qualify myself as being unbiased as well.

First-hand experience with racial issues is worth far more than speculative or wishful hand-waving.
For instance: I grew up in Alaska where we didn't have racial issues. Sure, most of the people were white like me, but the Latinos, Inuit, blacks, and Pacific Islanders weren't discriminated against or treated differently, at least from what I saw. So I thought that racism was a thing from the past. It wasn't until I left the state to go to college that I discovered things like voluntary segregation and racial hostility and fear. Point is: my opinion was based on schooling and wishful speculation. Encountering the reality of the situation was a wake up call.
So I don't call out people who are just saying how things actually are. If you don't address the situation, you're giving tacit consent for continuing the status quo.

20   Carolyn C   2014 May 18, 4:27am

To make a statement that all Latino people are going to beat Asian child with any object is a lie. I see several inter racial marriages between Hispanics and Asians. This thread is only instigating racial tensions and fear. The new generation of children in the US are not anywhere near as racial as the adults today. My children have friends from every race under the sun and none of them talk about race. So stop talking about this race being blah blah blah and that race being blah blah blah blah. In time things will work itself out. Be kind and polite to everyone. Remember there are good and bad people in all cultures.

21   clambo   2014 May 18, 4:46am

Yeah, it's kinda typical especially if you actually know many people of different races.

Usually envy for perceived advantages turns into hate.

Oddly some places have affinity for races you wouldn't expect.

In Tokyo a few years ago, it was considered "trendy" to hang around the few black guys who were there maybe musicians? Anyway, I remember this was something to see in Roppongi district.

But Japanese in general look down on all foreigners "gaijin" in some way. They consider Chinese less civilized, of course the Chinese may have issues with Japanese for historical reasons.

I know Mexicans have negative feelings about Chinese, one time a Mexican girl was jealous of me talking about how I had dated a Chinese from Shanghai and she said "did you eat DOG MEAT together ?!? " etc.

Mexicans won't get along easily with blacks but this might be expected for a few reasons. But besides the ones that come to mind that are economic, Mexico has qualities that we'd call racist. In Mexico and I saw chocloate snack cakes called "Negrito Bimbo" =Little blackie bimbo. There was also a character in the movies who was indigenous "India Maria".
In Baja and Baja Sur there was a chain of "Asian" restaurants called "La Cochinita" which is a play on words. The logo is supposed to be a Japanese, but in Mexico I recall that they called all asians "Chinita" for unknown reasons. The word "cochina"=small pig, while "chinita=chinese/asian girl. The name of the place could be an intentional play on words .

I recall my Chinese Shanghai friend was afraid of blacks in the USA from seeing movies back home, and she mentioned that Mexican-American=Chicano women were agressive to her.

Here're a couple pics. The negrito bimbo was updated so he's much lighter skinned.

In Mexico, a polite way to say a person is brown is "moreno". "Muy moreno" means "very brown". The other word is "prieto" which is "very dark" "black" and this has a negative connotation. "Negro" which means "black" is used to describe a person who is racially African, either African or American.

22   Carolyn C   2014 May 18, 5:05am

The more ignorant the people the more prejudice they will be. I am sure Mexico is far behind the times as are many countries. You can go anywhere in the world and find one culture hating another culture. I wonder why do the Greeks hate the Turks? Enough of the racial garbage it has to stop.

23   Homeboy   2014 May 18, 5:22am

Sadly, the attitudes being expressed here seem typical of intolerant, narrow-minded right-wingers, and that's why I could never see eye-to-eye with the right. An enlightened person would see the OP's story and think: "What a brutal, senseless crime", whereas a right-winger thinks: "That's typical of what them coloreds do." Never mind that every time you stereotype a race, you forget that there are millions of others in the world who don't fit your stereotype. Yes, there are some hispanics who hate asians. There are also some who don't. There are white people who hate asians. There are black people who hate asians. There are asians who hate black people. There are white people who hate black people. And there are just as many who don't. And even if X person DOES hate Y person, it still doesn't mean they're going to go randomly attack them.

Funny, I was taught at a very young age why stereotyping doesn't make sense. Some people don't seem to have EVER learned it.

You guys have PROVEN here that you see people of color through a different lens. Yet, when the discussion turns to affirmative action or discrimination, you conveniently ignore that fact.

24   clambo   2014 May 18, 5:36am

If you don't know why the Greeks may not like the Turks you should study history.

He is right. You can't stop people from expressing their views. You can debate them, or if it bothers you too much you can ignore the thread. You cannot change the world to your way of thinking. Attempting to beat your head on a brick wall will only give you a headache.

27   Carolyn C   2014 May 18, 7:26am

I have been the victim of several racial discrimination's. By white racist who find out I am not in fact white but Mexican. By Mexican Americans who think I am white and refuse to believe I am Mexican and by African Americans who think I am white and come from a privileged back ground when if fact nothing could be further from the truth. I have also met many many wonderful people from all three of the groups mentioned and I love them all. I am sorry I am not sobbing tears for clambo because some girl made a remark about her and her date eating dog. I grew up on the west side of Fresno in a mostly black community. Kids from the west side where bused to the north in the early eighties and some of the kids called all the Mexican kids Beaners. I told my kids and they thought it was hilarious. They told there friends and they thought it was hilarious. It really wasn't malicious, mike was just trying to get Silvia's attention any way possible. I hung out with the white kids my teenage years and love rock to this day. I sadly don't speak Spanish nor do any of my cousins. My family has been in the US for more than a hundred years. We have civil engineers, art teachers, Accountants, some who married doctors, rock band roadies, military personal, city workers, and may more. None of them to my knowledge give a rats ass about what Asian people are doing. Seriously.

And that statement exemplifies projection cause you've maybe heard that uttered once in your life. But more likely you just made it up.

30   Carolyn C   2014 May 18, 7:42am

31   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2014 May 18, 7:51am

Honestly Carolyn I'm not even sure what argument you are trying to make.

Racism is bad? Racism exists?

I'm pretty sure most people understand that.

Don't judge people ad lump them into a category?

Again, I think most people get that.

My issue in this thread is ole homeboy jumping down someone's throat for making stupid statements when all that was needed is "hey capt, stop being such a dumbass". Instead we hear a whole mess of hypocritical crap spew from his keyboard, projecting nonexistent behavior onto others.

32   Carolyn C   2014 May 18, 7:59am

What you don't want to read my True Life Bio? That what I thought. I counter argue that Latinos want to hurt Asian woman and children. You guys want to start a lynching party because some crazy bad person tried to hurt maybe kill child of another race. That is in fact how many lynchings took place in the past. So no I will not stand by and see this type of lies and treatment of ANY race take place.

God you're fucking stupid. I didn't claim anyone SAID that. It's hyperbole. Look it up. The point is, you and your mouth-breathing conservative redneck racist buddies here take a story about a nutcase who flipped out and attacked someone, and try to turn it into an excuse to stereotype an entire race of people. Sadly, I don't think you're ever going to get this.

Carolyn C probably my post offended you but I was thinking mostly about actual Mexicans.
But, your point is well taken, some stereotypical impressions of different nationalities and races exist in Mexico. One reason may be the few foreigners living/working in Mexico.
Some Mexicans are also caucasian or "white" since a small percentage never married much outside their Spanish heritage. I met some of these people in my time in Mexico. The distinction is a bit of an issue within Mexico, northern Mexicans tend to be more educated, well off, European and southern Mexicans tend to be poorer and indigenous.
In Mexico there is a good amount of xenophobia, but for historical reasons it makes sense.
I know a nice small Mexican town with a great climate and location. For this reason, some Americans like it. I know a woman who has a Phd. in Anthropology from a Mexican university who did her thesis on the huge impact caused by Americans living among the Mexicans in this town. I laughed when I heard this, since all the American retired people I know just want to mellow out and keep a low profile.
I should have clarified previously, I was just elaborating on the subject but I don't believe that Mexicans are particularly racist or bigoted, but rather there was social stratification.

Back to the original thread - if homeless people aren't able to go to Walmart to beat up on 4 year-old Asians, exactly where is it open season on them (besides in some of the above posters' yards).

38   Carolyn C   2014 May 18, 7:26pm

It wasn't your post that offended me as much as the posters headlines. This country has a bad history of cruel racial acts and I don’t want to see it perpetuate. I am actually full blooded Mexican/American. Both of my families have French bask and I came out especially light skinned. I myself have been discriminated against by my own people due to my light complexion so trust me when I say I feel your pain. The next time someone says something nasty call them out on it. The harder you make it for them the less like they will do it again.
I recently took some of my daughter’s new friends to a play in the city. They are Mexican drama lama geeks. One was a talented young actor, very intelligent and spent the remainder of the evening walking up to strangers performing magic tricks. The other was an outgoing girl, friendly and very complementary. They were the most adorable young people I have met. They were just so happy to be out on the town eager to see the world. On the drive back home (with my encouragement) they yelled to the people walking down the street of SF things like ‘I love you, will you marry me?’ Most of the people yelled back ‘I love you too’. They had the time of their life. I hope when it’s time for them to enter this world as young adults people will welcome them.
