The Congolese soldiers march through the night, but not towards battle. In the dark, they are hunting for women who have fled their homes in Minova to hide in the bushes. The women know that if they are seen, they will be raped and maybe killed.

What is the world doing to stop these atrocities? What are we doing to stop this? Nothing.....absolutely nothing. We are not fit to be humans if we allow human rights abuses like this to go on right before us when we have the means to stop it.
Even though I lean liberal, I blame the liberals. "It's not our business" "Who made us policeman of the world" "We just want to control them and steal their resources"
Are you ever gonna grow up? Ever? If we just stand by and allow mass rapes, genocide and other atrocities, we are as good as participating in them. When do we put politics aside and do something good for humanity?
Sick sick sick!

Why do we just stand by?

Why does rest of Africa just stand by ? Since when did it become
our problem. Was anyone complaining when Pol Pot was butchering
millions.. No! they just wanted the US out of Vietnam.

Had we step foot into Africa, we would be accused of doing it for Oil
or some other nonsense by the left as was the case with Iraq.

When the United States had civil rights abuses and lynchings should China have invaded the US? what would have been the response?

Back "when" Africans were still butchering other Africans. Slavery still exists very much then and today. As far as Asian, they are the biggest racist you will ever find.. They all certainly dont like any foreigners.. be they white, black, or Latino. Lynching was also common in Mao's China.

Lets put aside our differences and put humanity first. We are all humans on the same planet. This genocide has got to stop. We have the means to stop it, why not use our technology, wealth and expertise and stop these things any where ever in the world.

Do we really stop it by more violence?

Is our own house in order?

Barbarians only understand violence. Just kill them.

No, our house is not in order. It does not have to be in order for us to stop atrocities.

priorities? resources? should the US be using violence against its domestic barbarians as a priority? why go overseas? is that the function of the US government? why not private mercenaries?

10   RWSGFY   2014 Jun 8, 5:26am

Africa has always been and will be for at least couple more generations a shithole where atrocities like this are the norm. We, as a country, should first concentrate our "world police" efforts on areas of the world where success is possible, which mostly means Europe. But you are always welcome to form a private militia and go fight rapists in Congo right now, if you feel this is a priority.

yep the call to use the government -ie someone else's kid to go risk his life to fix the world-is a poor option

Bomb the barbaric soldiers. We did that in Bosnia, didn't we?
I don't want boots on the ground. Organize an African military force and let them go after their own savages. We should have done that in the Mid East too. Let them go after their own genocidal maniacs.

19   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2014 Jun 8, 8:24am

Strategist, not really sure if you are trolling. But if not, you display a really naive view of the world. Starting with a lack of knowledge regarding localized world politics, desire for power, and human nature.

People do bad stuff to other people. Really bad evil vicious things. This has been te case throughout human history. Hell, even in the US we held people as slaves due only to skin color, slaughtered native Americans and destroyed the places they live and raped and killed women and children in Vietnam. Even the mighty US isn't capable of fixing all the crappy stuff that other people throughout the world do.

The world needs to stand together as a human family. I agree with you. It's not about my government, their government. ALL civilized nations should stand united against this. Send a private army, if a government one offends, but by God do something! We should be outraged, I completely agree.

21   lostand confused   2014 Jun 8, 9:20am

I am outraged at the outrage brigade.. Why are the outrage brigade here, posting on the forum. Round up your buddies, get a posse and go to the jungles and kill the perpetrators . Do something-oh wait you just want to feel right and have other people's children/young adults get shot and maimed .

Lefties-put our soldiers in harm's way for events happening in far off lands. Do you even sit and think for a moment of how we will get troops there, how we will maintain camps, how big of presence we need to repulse attacks, how to keep the supply chain going etc. etc etc.

Righties-lets put our soldiers in harms way so a few corporations can make billions. Just cloak it under national security and let your buddies make billions at the expense of our soldiers.

22   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2014 Jun 8, 9:32am

Good lord HRhjuliet, does no one on Pat.net watch Star Wars?

That is EXACTLY how the Empire started...one inter world army controlled by a Supreme Chancellor granted "emergency" powers.

A fable...a story so simple even small children can understand....containing a warning about the dangers of tremendous concentrated power.

Humans were born into a life of struggle and that will NEVER change. No matter how many John Lennon songs of bullshit one listens to, no matter how any people follow Marxist dung piles, no matter what garbage people smoking pot come up with, humans will still struggle. It is ingrained in human nature. We are flawed creatures and simply there is no way to end those flaws. Best we can do is make attempts to create a govt that protects individuals rights and liberties, founded on freedom, and ensuring that people can attempt to work and achieve of their own accord.

Ceeding those rights and freedoms to a central authority has ALWAYS led to a poorer standard of living for the masses. It's been true in communist nations, and it's true right now in Europe.

23   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2014 Jun 8, 9:34am

Lost and confused:

George Soros apparently has billions to toss down the drain attempting to induce social upheaval in the US. If he cares so much, why can't he find a small private army that goes and rescues these people and places them into refugee camps(which he and the UN can fund)?

Just saying...

American Imperial Humanitarians never have a nuanced view of the world.
Everybody hates Somali Pirates right? Even Tom "America's Hero" Hanks supports killing the inhuman demons.
These poor fuckers used to be fisherman before foreign factory trawlers decimated their fisheries. They first took up arms to defend themselves against Japanese boats water cannons.
Their livelihood destroyed they turned to piracy in the face of starvation.
You won't see that made into a Hollywood Movie.

Yup, the well known statistic is that with 5% of the population we consume a quarter of the worlds energy. Along with 25 tons of raw materials per citizen, or as they are called now consumers.

On a related note.

Another ex military buddy of mine lived for many years on a small atoll in the south pacific. To make ends meet he would sometimes take a job to transport private yachts around, sometimes through the straits of Malacca. When the nice friendly fishermen there would see such a prize they would drop their nets and poles and pick up machetes and head on over. When they would see the heavily armed mercenaries who had been hired for the trip the "fishermen" would stop, wave and speed away. Had that boat NOT had such protection it was very clear what they outcome would have been:

Absolutely true. That does not make us bad, that makes us good. We are an extremely successful country. We innovate, we are productive, we have freedoms and we encourage entrepreneurship. Our standard of living is the envy of the world, and millions of people risk their lives for an opportunity to get a piece of the pie. Countries that emulate us have also seen an unprecedented rise in their standard of living.

Utter nonsense. We have the wealth to just buy anything we want. It's cheaper to buy it then it is to steal it.

Robert Sproul says

That is because of people like you who constantly criticize anything the United States does. It does not matter what we do, the critiques condemn us even before we do anything.

We are living off past glories made possible because we have the world's reserve currency

The victims in that war were Muslim women. They were victimized twice....first by a horrible religion with horrible practices, and then by Christian rapists. People are people, and humans are humans. I don't care who you are, why you are, or where you are. Human rights applies to all.
We in America are spoilt rotten. Our biggest problem is .....where should we go for dinner this weekend....where do we go for our next vacation......and what car will we buy next.
Pathetic.

Well, Strategist, No Oil There.

Over the past few weeks in Donbas, especially in and aroudn Slavansk, dozens of Russian-speaking civilians have been victims of air strikes and artillery bombardments. People have been sniped in their homes, going about their regular business. Not a peep in the Western Media.

If it was a US-unfriendly country, like Venezuela or Iran bombing civilians, it would be consistently reported and at the very least sanctions would be on the table.

We only care about Human Rights in strategically important regions, when it's done by a regime that doesn't do our bidding. There were no embargoes on Pinochet or Stroessner.

37   turtledove   2014 Jun 9, 4:46am

This probably will be an unpopular take on things....

Unfortunately, barbarism is a part of social evolution. Imagine if you could go back to the middle ages. Do you really think you could make people understand that everyone deserves equal protection under the law? No matter how perfect your words, you cannot make a middle ager really understand the social mores that took the western world about 1,000 more years to really understand, themselves. If you try to impose your values on a group of people who haven't yet evolved to place such values above the ones they currently hold (beyond the obvious, "I don't want to be raped and murdered.") you will find that it simply won't work. Worse yet, you will be resented for the effort. When these people reach a tipping point, a revolution (one way or the other) will occur. It's not just a revolution of power. It's a revolution in the way the majority think. If that revolution of the mind isn't allowed to evolve naturally then all the "help" in the world will only serve to exchange one evil for another.

Tell it to the one in three African American males under some form of criminal justice supervision whether imprisoned, jailed, on parole or probation.

'Caus another area where we are World Leaders is the immense American Prison Complex. The largest in the world. Possibly the largest in world history. 25% of the worlds prisoners with, again, just 5% of the worlds population.

"Since I have been doing this work, I have been raped three times," she says. "I have been beaten, tortured and left to die." On one occasion, a soldier raped her with his foot.

"When he finished, he spat on me. That's when I thought about killing myself. I am constantly haunted by this," she says.

The mass rape in Minova was not an isolated instance.
