A New York court has released the Obama administration's legal justification for the killing of a US citizen and suspected al-Qaeda leader in Yemen.

The previously secret justice department memo was published after a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and The New York Times.

Anwar al Awlaki was killed by a US drone attack in Yemen in 2011.

Critics have said Awlaki was killed without being given his right to legal due process as an American citizen.

The memo argues the killing was legal because he was an "operational leader" of an "enemy force" at war with the US.

Facts:

2. He was killed by the American government.
3. He was not given due process.

I am glad. Anyone who wants to kill my children because they are infidels and American deserves to be killed with no questions asked.

So the President, unilaterally, without any checks and balances like Court Decisions, decides which American Citizens can be assassinated?

And keep his reasons secret for years - as well as his legal justifications giving him such power?

We can save a lot of money by doing away with the Criminal Justice system and just letting cops and sheriffs decide who is guilty and who is not.

I don't think the President would do that without his advisors and evidence.
In extreme cases I am OK with that. I understand I am at odds with my liberal friends, but that's what opinions and debates are for.

This, of course, is counter to the fundamental principals of our nation.
I think ISIS has similar values.

That is coming, Baby.
With Qualified Immunity and sycophantic Prosecutors, they barely check addresses before they proceed with their nightly, madcap SWAT adventures.
Dispensing "Justice" on the spot, while screaming obscenities and shooting your dog.

So what would you say principles are for then? Principles are like being pregnant, it either is or isn't.

W Bush killed Americans for a lie and then laughed about it.

We also have principles of protecting our innocent citizens. I would put that first. We either kill Awlaki and his kind or expose ourselves to terror. The last think we need to worry about is the rights of a terrorist.

There is no greater terror than this attitude and what it has empowered the usfedgov to do

Frightened, and fully indoctrinated, the Authoritarian Statist strains to kiss the boot on his face.

Wonder if all those that weren't fighters & had innocent family members & friends killed,by you Americans, think the same about you.

How about taking up a collection to pay for military adventures.
You can keep your financial donation secret. But I am wondering if you might donate your life to defend your beliefs in each & every one of our military excursions.

I trying to top your trolling.

Bush/Republicans are guilty of ABJECT FAILURE to stop 9-11.The phrase "domestic enemies" comes to mind.

I can't believe what you guys are saying here. Killing terrorists is wrong? really?
Because collateral damage takes place we should just just roll over and get our bellies scratched? Should we also get rid of the police force because innocent people can die during law enforcement activities? Lets get rid of ambulances too, because sometimes they end up killing an innocent pedestrian.
I hold each and every one of you responsible for each and every act of terror that takes place on the planet, because this logic is the best weapon the terrorists have.

Bush is responsible for 9-11 a few months into his presidency....check

Obama is not responsible for the economy, a few years into his presidency...check

18   MisdemeanorRebel   2014 Jun 24, 2:53pm

The first attempt to kill Alawi was in 2009.

The memo wasn't even crafted until 2010.

That is, they didn't even bother drafting a reason until after they tried to kill a US Citizen w/o due process.
