Are you an iPhone user? Congratulations! You're probably smarter than the Android owner sitting next to you.

Not always true! I used to work for a certain large company where everybody uses Android. Most people there are very smart.

2   anonymous   2015 Jan 22, 9:04am

Damn. I have an IQ of 146 , and I use android

The only Apple product I own is APPL stock

Both of the kids have iphones, but their screens are so broken they aren't currently usable

I use a $99 Samsung LTE, and it does everything I need it to. It's also held up well to some heavy usage and multiple hard falls. Screen is still fully intact

3   anonymous   2015 Jan 22, 9:06am

I'm guessing what makes most people smarter than me, is that I still use T-Mobile and their crappy coverage service

4   Peter P   2015 Jan 22, 9:08am

Real Android aficionados prefer the Nexus or Moto brands. ;-)

I was using a 1st generation Samsung Note before the word "Phablet" was even invented. It got pretty banged up, although I am quite rough with my stuff.

I dropped my Nexus 7 numerous times. It is still good as new.

Statistics and probability. Most does not mean ALL. 50+% smarter folks use iPhone means 40+% smart guys ain't using iPhone. What is the point of pointing out that you're the 40+% unless you think you're smart and is not using iPhone?

7   Peter P   2015 Jan 22, 9:46am

I would even suggest that most smarter people in the tech industry use Android. Also, the average Google employee is smarter than the average Apple worker. But of course there are exceptions. ;-)

I use Android because I like the Google ecosystem.

8   myob   2015 Jan 22, 9:59am

These studies are all bullshit, since it's impossible to isolate for all the confounding variables.

iPhones are generally more expensive, so more affluent people own them, so it makes sense that places with more college grads have more iphones since college grads tend to earn more than high school grads.

This says nothing about intelligence. I've worked with many an Ivy league educated moron, and some of the smartest people I've known have no formal education.

Are you an iPhone user? Congratulations! You're probably smarter than the Android owner sitting next to you.

A new study conducted by online advertising network Chitika found that states with more college graduates tend to also have higher iPhone sales.

A perfect example of a poorly written article with incorrect conclusions that only the gullible would fall for. The second sentence does not follow from the first.

First of all, never listen to surveys conducted by advertising companies. They are not interested in truth, the enemy of adverting, but rather persuading people to believe things that are not true.

Second, the study doesn’t compare the actual preference of platform (Android or iPhone) as correlated with college graduation, which isn’t intelligence anyway. It just says that states with more college graduates have more iPhone sales than states with fewer college graduates. The fact is that most college students are in places where the artsy-fartsy culture prefers Apple products or any shit product that you put an Apple logo on.

http://www.youtube.com/embed/v9JQsXPd41U

Yep, those are the freaking geniuses you're bragging about.

Third, there is no comparison between the actual intelligence, or even academic performance, of Android users vs iPhone users.

Most importantly, it doesn't matter what percentage of a platform's users are intelligent. What matters is what platform intelligent people prefer. A platform could be loved by both the smartest and the dumbest people in the world. Appeal to dumb people doesn't imply an inferior platform. However, appeal to smart people does imply a superior platform. So ask yourself, which platform do you think most physicists and mathematicians prefer?

Finally, Android will be the winner of the Android-iOS war just like the PC won the PC-MAC war and for the exact same reasons. Android is an open platform that anyone can contribute to, whereas iOS is a proprietary platform owned and controlled by Apple for its own benefit.

Apple lost the computer architecture war. It's failures in that war are numerous.
- Apple QE 2 failed
- Lisa failed
- Macintosh (a Motorola architecture) failed
- Power PC (not actually a PC, but RISC-based) failed
- Finally Apple gives up and starts using PCs, which all Apple computers except phones and tablets are today.

Apple lost the OS wars. Windows still exists. Mac System 9 was the last operating system that Apple made. Does that surprise you? You think that iOS is an operating system because of it's name? Well, I hate to break it to you, but marketing companies lie. iOS is operating system in the same way that Madonna is British, in pretend only.

The last operating system Apple made, System 9, sucked ass so fucking bad that they completely abandoned the attempt to even maintain or write operating systems. Instead Apple decided to use Unix which had recently been made popular again by Linus Torvalds' release of his version, Linux, as free open source. Everyone at Apple should give half their salary to Torvalds. They wouldn't have a desktop OS, a tablet OS, or a phone OS without him. Their entire bread and butter for the past 15+ years is owed to Torvalds.

Anyway, your iPhone runs the same operating system as my Android, Unix. If you look at the file system, which most iPhone users are too dumb to even be able to do, you'll see the same directory structure and same files, more or less, as are on any Android phone.

iOS and Android are not operating systems. They don't operate the system. They are platforms. iOS is a crappy, unmanaged platform, whereas Android is a Java-based, and therefore managed, platform. You can think of Android as being a better version of Java micro-edition. JME tried to reduce JSE (Java Standard Edition) to fit primitive mobile devices. Android extends JSE to take advantage of all the capabilities of advanced mobile devices.

Android is technically superior in many ways -- I'm tempted to write 10 pages on this alone, but I'll let you Google it if you are interested. It is also a platform that supports developers rather than being a centralized, greedy system like everything Apple does. Ultimately Android is going to win over iOS just like the PC won over Macintosh and all other Apple computers.

13   MisdemeanorRebel   2015 Jan 22, 10:46am

Any product that has captured the most market share is generally going to conform closer to average than the niche product.

Apple users are certainly the most smug, so this article may have been written to confirm their bias, encouraging them to continue to spend more money for negligible differences in function.

14   hanera   2015 Jan 22, 11:04am

Strategists,

You may want to conduct a study to verify that Apple haters are either ex-Apple badges or early AAPL investors who sold at a big loss and any tech investors who miss the gigantuan gain (100 folds, 10000%) in AAPL since the return of late Steve Jobs. Quoting plunders by Apple management (led not by Steve Jobs) is laughable.

Look, all that techie jargon goes over my head. I am a simple guy with simple needs. When I turn on something I expect it to work perfectly, easily and every single time. It must also look beautiful with cutting edge technology. The only company that delivers everything is "Apple" and Apple alone. Since the last one year, every computer, every phone every laptop in our home has been an Apple.
Every Apple product works seamlessly with each other every time. There is a reason why Apple is the most valued company on earth. No other company even comes close to the achievements made by Apple. When the Apple Watch comes out, I will get it the very first day.

graphical shell = dashboard

You are dead wrong here. The only opinion that counts is the opinion of the consumer that would buy the product. It does not matter what the world's engineers might say on a product. If the consumer says it's bad....it's bad.

The consumer is told what to want by Apple. Apple fanboys follow mindlessly. Jimmy Kimmel demonstrated this.

In contrast, the opinions of the knowledgeable mean a great deal. We have per-emptive multitasking and networking because of the opinions of the knowledgeable.

Exactly.

Of course, following that philosophy, you'd have to say that Apple's long line of products: QE2, Lisa, Mac, PowerPC were all bad and that Windows is great.

You'd also have to say that Internet Explorer is the best browser in the world.

'Nuff said.

Seeing what happen to Compaq, Dell, HPQ, INTC and MSFT, really love that history would repeat similarly for iOS. HPQ, INTC and MSFT are still trading below ATH established in 1999/2000. Can't find tickers for Compaq and Dell :(.

Dan8267,

Your post #29 quoted many Apple failures that are all rectified after late Steve Jobs, and in many posts implied Apple as a company is a failure/ has many failed products.

First thing first, being the biggest market cap in USA, Apple as a business is clearly not failing.

Second thing, you keep quoting the past PC vs Mac achievement, ignoring immediate past and current performance. Mac's market share has been increasing for the past recent quarters. If include iPad as the same category as Mac and PC, market share of iPad/Mac is way higher than PC-Windows/Android tablets.

Third thing, there is a big difference between Google's Android strategy vs Microsoft's Windows strategy. Google gave Android away free, yet those Android handset makers (except Samsung) are losing money. Microsoft charges for Windows, hehe, giving free Windows 10 to recent Windows purchasers.

Fourth, refer to post #19, do you fit one of those profile?

In your experience, not especially in mine. If you ask people about things, they'll tell you, and that also applies for shiny new Lollipop running smart phones.
A lot of people own Apple products. A small number of them may be stupid enough to wait in a line for a day or two or spend too much time at Macrumors or some such, but there seem to be plenty of people who like to make their point about competitors products/against those of Apple. Take you for example. Does that make you an Android fan boy?
