Spurred by a group of tenants facing skyrocketing rents and forced evictions, city leaders are eyeing a possible emergency moratorium on rent increases. Lawmakers will discuss May 11 a temporary halt of rent hikes in response to complaints from residents of three downtown apartment complexes recently purchased by San Francisco real estate investment firm Sack Properties. Should Lafayette pass a moratorium, it would be the first Contra Costa city to do so after Richmond failed to pass one earlier this month.
