So since the whole deletion of the real estate forum my number of posts has lessened from hundreds of posts a year to about 10 per 365 days. I can only guess that the deletion happened because the bubble popped and the recovery happened, and Patrick sees the whole situation as resolved and not relevant anymore but i digress. Housing is like a bad soap opera in the fact that its terrible and you want it to end but it never does. I'm not sure on the actual forum number of posts, but I have noticed that misc is the new housing forum, which is a lesser space since it has to be shared with nutjob political posts and conspiracy theories. Which is quite off putting because we all registered for an account here because we all wanted to talk about housing at a certain point. I understand many have moved on from that, but it is very clear that many have not, and that it remains a big topic for this website. I would have emailed Patrick directly stating my concern , but I think that a forum topic would be better because he can realize the community behind the housing forum.

Thanks for listening to my rant on the weekend! (sorry had 4 beers today, this whole post might seem sporadic.)

#housing

I don't think it's dead, but it sure isn't the same.

@Patrick should redefine the site to what matters the most to most people.
In other words - Political, Social and Economic issues.
Which includes what people care about the most....Current events, real estate, investments, money, damn politics, foreign affairs, sex, weird news, and fucking terrorists.

Actually, somewhere around 2005-6 it was a lot of fun. Our common mission of RE bashing was fun and helpful. It's changed, but I still cyperstalk it and post occasionally. The fucking idiot conspiracy theorists have made it difficult to hang out much.

Patnet isn't dead, its just been overrun by the walking dead zombie dumb fucks Call it Crazy and indiginous, the absolutely worthless nonsense they post all day everyday, and the lot of idiots they troll into responding to their nonsense.

Sad

Cept cant splain that, Say's law and all, mutts.

people seem reluctant to delete comments

What's the point of deleting comments when trolls are just going to repost them ad nausea, perhaps on different threads.

how to deal with that without censoring anyone?

The only ways that come to mind are removing some degree of anonymity. If a user was required to registered by responding to an SMS message, then you could tie a user to a phone number. This would prevent duplicate accounts, spamming, and trolling as trolls could be permaband based on that phone number. Getting a new phone number takes resources that trolls won't be willing to spend.

However, using this approach, even if you don't reveal the phone numbers, does limit anonymity, which is essential nowadays when discussing politics online. You can't even express a political opinion in social media without the risk of employers firing you over it, so I understand why people won't talk politics over the Internet without that last bastion of privacy.

Untested ideas are blather. You mutts should be thanking me and occasionally might even experience momentary sentientence.

A Troll by any other name is just someone who doesn't share your views.
Just because someone posts something you might not agree with. Does not mean they were being intentionally derisive.
I always thought Liberals were the biggest champions of free speech, and they are, as long as they are dictating what speech is acceptable.

What is sentientence?

Is that some sort of spanglish slang, referring to syntax sentience?

Prohibiting people from yelling fire in a crowded movie theater, is not censorship

Prohibiting trolls from shitting up the forum is not censorship either

Long live Patnet!

errc says

It is, but it is a justified form of censorship (assuming there is no fire). Essentially it's prohibiting falsely reporting emergencies. Justifiable forms of censorship include, and probably are limited to,
1. Threats of violence.
2. Threats of extortion.
3. Falsely reporting emergencies.
4. False testimony in law.
5. False disparaging statements of fact (libel and slander).

The First Amendment should be rewritten to include an explicit list of exceptions, and anything not on that list is protected speech. The problem with the First Amendment now is that since an explicit exception list is not given, the state includes things as not protected that should be. Better to say "all speech except for the following is protected" rather than "most speech is protected, but the state can decide what is as it sees fit".

I doubt it would devolve to just conservatives voting against liberals

Conservatives?
Liberals?

Where are these Bigfoot?

Can you define what makes a liberal a liberal, and a conservative, a conservative, and then maybe list some posters that fall into these camps?

A good foundation and solid prep work up front, the rest of the bullshit practically shits its self.
