One of the shittiest--the 1974 Olds 98 in '70s green--an overweight, underpowered brick with every federally mandated emission and safety device to that date with its gasping, wheezing 455 trying to push it's 175 HP through a 3.07 axle:

My Mom and Dad had that exact same car, they bought it new. I spent the summer of 1976 in the back seat of that car handing my parents Carter/Mondel pamphlets as they canvased neighborhoods, they were local delegates for the DNC.

Except that was the wrong year--that was a '73. Can't find an 88 but this is the 98--175 HP out of 455 cubic inches, 12 MPG highway.

They were better than Trickie, my father used to caution about Socialist commies will one day ruin the Democrat party.

It seemed the Democrats at least preteneded to give a shit about the working middle class guy back then.
Of course Carter never did anything to make them stronger, and set them up for big fall by time Reagan got in office.
