People want incomes, not jobs. Automation will be a nightmare if capitalists have their way or a godsend if Georgism is embraced.
perverse intensifier of income inequality
Uh, how do you figure that? Let's see if I learn a trade and become a welder making base wage of $50k plus overtime brings me to $90K a year but you choose to be a slacker, playing video games, working part-time as a waiter and make $24k a year ... uh, is that income inequality?
What happens when robots can weld?
Remember blacksmiths? They used to be relatively well compensated, highly valued members of society. Mostly immune from military service, good prestige, high value members of society. When they mass produced iron, they were no longer needed and tossed to the side.
There's a dark cloud for every silver lining.
I predict this is a needless worry. Similar to fears about farmers disappearing.
People laid off by robots can make money programming 'apps'.
Or prostitution.
Or prostitution apps.
I'm coding one now where its a pick-your-price reverse auction whoring app AND the whore is delivered via self driving car OR (for extra fee) its a self driving sex-van and you make sex in the van. One in ten will randomly take you to the police station where the police robots will book the john into for profit prisons. But also one in ten get free sex and are dropped off home safely - no one will able to resist using it.
Randomly booking one in 10 johns means we can lay off half the police, no more cops in drag pretending to be whores - what kind of fucking ridiculous government make work job is that anyway?!? jesus think about it.
