Took my west coast salary and profitable LLC with me - after I pay 2015 taxes to CA, the state won't get another dime from me.

Ended up moving to the Southeast. It's pretty nice here. Gas is dirt cheap, tons of food options, lots of jobs, good gun laws, friendly people, low taxes and seems like a decent place to set up shop. While the traffic sucks, I'm near bike trails that will get me directly to work.

I'll be paying cash for a house in the next few months, and then quitting my day job to pursue my own ventures. It's a lot easier to do that out here. No more slumlords.

F U California. And damn it feels good to finally get out of that state after 8 years. I'll miss your coastline, but nothing else.

Despite California spending is in the top half of the USA, it is still ranked at the bottom for public K-12. Why is that ?

Illegals and thier offspring.

Thank you RC2006 with having the courage to admit this, while some here refuse to admit about California, either because they are too afraid or too Woke (blue pilled).

This should make sense. These people use cash and never get to pay taxes and always on receiving gov handouts.

@ad That's all a direct and inevitable result of Prop 13. It's pretty well documented in the documentary called "First to Worst", which somehow is not showing up in search engines, lol.

Patrick, yes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1978_California_Proposition_13

However I am referring to the rankings going back around 1997. Prop 13 was enacted around 1978. You can pin this on Prop 13 for the main cause for the drop in California's public K-12 rankings from within the top 10 to a current ranking of 40.

prop 13 didn’t cause teachers to turn into globohomo fascists. crazy liberalism is not new to the state.

what prop 13 did was stop government from fucking over people with ever increasing property taxes. only flaw in it is inheritance of tax basis.

out here in ID in my city they just doubled property taxes on everyone, it fucked people hard. Lots of money and lots of assholes looking for that money. if you don’t stop government taxing, it won’t stop itself.

Prop 13 was enacted around 1978
When my cousin Margaret and her husband Bent Davies were in their late 50's and had been in their home about 20 years. Whatever else its problems, it kept their taxes from going from something like $1,500 to $7,500, which would have meant the loss of their home. It is true that a subsequent buyer would not have been protected, but that was beside the point.

This is pure denial. You actually miss the alienation, the aggressive entitlement, the daily, self centered smug narcissism, the litigiousness, the raw, bloody competition for overpriced crap, the high fences, the proliferating squalorous homeless and third worlders, the raving KommieKunt deluded apparatchiks, the complete failure of your vote to count, the increasingly ludicrous, costly and impractical humiliating anti-Constitutional legislations, the bleak future of gray socialist absurdities stacked higher and deeper, the high taxes, grifts, and fees, paying more and more for corrupt bureaucracies for less and less results in governance and infrastructures, the lousy schools full of idiotic perverts, etc. etc. etc. etc.

If you like CA 1978 prop 13, you also must be liking Ponzi scheme. If you wanted to be fair, ask for low and uniform tax for everyone who lives in their primary home. It’s even more fair to propose more taxes for business and RE investments who are more “tax efficient”.

So far we are paid in, and we have to weigh the disruptions of moving with the escape from Californication. We are debt free, have paid off homes with prop. 13, don't have to scramble for mortgages, have lots of free time to time our travels, don't have to worry about work to make a living, commutes during peak times etc. etc. In other words, minimize 80-90 percent of the hassles of the State. We spend half our time in a pinky lifting suburb and the other half in a still mostly beautiful coastal area. We almost fled when it looked like they were going full CCP on absolutely forcing vaccines. We almost pulled the trigger to leave during the horrible smoke years, but a couple of years of nice weather has made us lazy again.
158   Blue   2022 Oct 3, 5:22pm

Not too many outside CA know that CA re taxes are lowest in the country after prop 13 who hold on assets for long especially businesses. It’s a scam by design to shoot up every other tax in the state to offset the loss of re taxes.

Yep, me too. But I plan to stay even if those stuff weren't also my case. Both my partner (OK, "spouse" for you, Patrick) and me have all our relations in the region, including our adult kids. This means more to us than the other stuff, so we stay. I reckon if I was a Jew in Austria I'd have stayed there too till they shipped me out in the boxcars.

Everything in CA is a scam. I get a fucking camping chair in IL and it causes cancer in CA. Hell a mattress causes cancer. I think most of you know how stupid your state looks, but as an outsider it looks like retardation. Not that you guys made the policy, but outside of CA's natural beauty it's the laughing stock of the country. No one wants to move there anymore.

Stay if you can put up with it. Hell I'm in IL for fucks sake. But that's mainly a property tax issue here and mine are extremely low. Our income tax isn't all that bad. I'd hit the 13% income marginal tax in CA which is fucking insane. I'd have missed out on prop 13, though I'm not sure how inheritance works. My dad's cousins live out there and own. That would be the only scenario I'd even think of moving out there if I could take over their houses.

I just cannot live on the coasts. That's why Texas is so popular. If you're near Houston/Dallas/Austin/San Antonio you can fly the mainland in 2-3 hours anywhere and Mexico/Caribbean. CA to NY for example is a cunt of a flight. Weather is not bad in TX. Housing is cheap(ish). No income tax. Guns. Less regulation. I like FL, but hurricanes can eat horse cock. I ain't dealing with that shit every fall.

True enough - all this natural beauty comes with a price of massive retardation.

But Illinois is certainly in the top 3 or the laughing stock category and has terrible weather most of the year. Who wants to move there these days?

And if you do get legally married, have the marriage certificate recorded in Alabama. The state is of right mind enough to have pulled itself out of the marriage contract in 2019, and so far is the only state to do so that I know of. You do not sign a marriage license and ask for permission to marry in Alabama, you just create a marriage certificate saying you and your spouse are married and want it legally recognized. No need for a ceremony where you pledge fealty to the state and insert them into your lives either.

Good to know.

Chicago is responsible for Chicago. The rest of the state is not that bad outside of winter. San Fran or Chicago don't make the state. I think you'd agree.

Local municipalities or cities are the biggest thing that effect us. Everyone gets caught up in national politics. CA does have some F'd up stuff going on though as a state and you guys mention it a lot. As I've said, I like it as a place to visit, but cannot imagine living there.

I work, eat, shower, shit and sleep in IL. When I get time off I'm out probably 2-3 months of the year. So not praising Chicago by any stretch, I won't go there besides the airports. I'm out on San Francisco 100% and LA. I want to get the kids to Redwoods and Joshua Tree. As my boys get older I'd like to do a Palm Springs area golf trip. I'd like to do Torrey Pines or Pebble Beach, but that's a bit much $$$ for what would be Sophomore to Senior in high school 5 years away. Fuck they're getting old.

Yosemite is a goal, but seems like a shit show of fires and a massive amount of people for a NP. I think Glacier NP is next of the list if I get my way with a launch from Bozeman, MT or Spokane, WA. Wife wants to do Acadia/East Coast #puke.

"Once-Glorious California Is Now A Fascist Lunatic Asylum"

https://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?read=208763

"By Stephen Kruiser - October 4, 2022

Happy Tuesday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. Darren rarely spoke of the unfortunate dung beetle incident that ended his occasionally drunken forays into entomology.

It’s only been four-and-a-half years since I left California and returned to my native Arizona. I had spent 25 years of my adult life in Los Angeles, along with four years in San Diego when I was a kid. There were a lot of things about California that I loved.

I don’t know if any of them exist anymore.

At CPAC earlier this year, I bumped into several of my L.A. friends from the old secret Hollywood conservative underground days. All had left California after I did. It was quite the ex-pat gathering.

The news out of California — and there’s been a lot of it already this week — is always creepy lately.

Take this example that Lincoln wrote about yesterday:

Newsom, in his never-ending quest to make California a post-apocalyptic wasteland of mob rule, Mad Max-style running battles, ritual cannibalism, mutant animals, and the adult version of Lord of the Flies, has signed AB-2098 into law, according to the Post Millennial. The law essentially penalizes physicians for mis- or disinformation when it comes to COVID-19.

Sigh. C’mon, Newsom. COVID-19 is so last year. Hell, it’s not even last year at this point. I thought we were all going to die of Monkeypox, or whatever the next scheduled public health conniption will be. Timing aside, the questionably Honorable Gavin Newsom just can’t leave anyone or anything alone.

Gavin Newsom is a full-on fascist. I was fortunate to end my time in California before he became governor. The thought of him in the White House is petrifying. He comes from the same San Francisco political toilet that’s given us Kamala Harris and Nancy Pelosi. People from the most radical part of an already radical state keep rising to power.

Athena wrote a post yesterday about another bill that’s truly disturbing:

California, the sickest state in the nation, has just taken it upon itself to entice unhappy American children to within its borders to be brainwashed, sterilized, and mutilated. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed SB-107 into law on Thursday, setting up California as a sanctuary state for minors seeking medical and psychological assistance in their delusional quest to become a member of the opposite sex. Now, once a confused or manipulated kid sets foot on the cursed California soil, the state can take “temporary emergency jurisdiction” over the minor “because the child has been unable to obtain gender-affirming health care or gender-affirming mental health care.”

SB-107 was introduced by ultra-LGBTQ Calif. Sen. Scott Wiener (heh) in August. “As so many states work to erase trans kids and criminalize their families, California must always have their backs,” spouted Wiener. ”California is forcefully pushing back against the anti-LGBTQ hatred spreading across parts of our nation. The rainbow wave is real, and it’s coming.” LOL okay.

They’re becoming very bold about coming for our children now. Dems used to prefer a slightly stealthier approach via taxpayer-funded public education. This is straight-up predatory police state stuff here.

While Newsom and his commie cronies in Sacramento are busy legislatively violating common sense and freedom, the streets in the big cities are being terrorized. We’ve been reading about businesses fleeing San Francisco because of the crime and the out-of-control homeless problem. My friend and HotAir colleague John Sexton wrote a story yesterday about a woman in West L.A. getting hit in the head with a fire extinguisher in a random attack.

I lived in West L.A. for the last 12 years that I was in California. They weren’t exactly mean streets there. It’s heartbreaking to think that people aren’t safe anywhere in the city now.

Yes, California has been run by Democrats at the state level for a long time. There were still plenty of smaller cities and counties that weren’t, however. It’s a lost cause now, but the story of how quickly the state has gone off of the leftist cliff under Newsom should also be a cautionary tale. People tend to be dismissive of what goes on in California as if all of the lunacy were contained by its borders.

California is very good at exporting its lunacy . "

I don't believe that California actually has the superpower to export its corrupt Liberal nightmare to other states UNLESS they can export the wholesale election fraud as well. A significant number of the California expats are leaving because they are conservative.

California is the way it is because there is no longer any vote here, it's all fake third world dictator theater. Before the fraud from 2006, Californians, in spite of liberal tendencies, rose often to support conservative candidates and punish the creeps. However, now, as we saw in the recent rigged recall, there is no getting rid of the psychos and creeps.

Nevada actually was the pilot project for Soros 'Operation Secretary of State' around 2004, so has been captured by election fraud since then. After Nevada, the capture proceeded to California, so these are the two states with the oldest election fraud.

Nevada has gone full socialist, but given its historical background, has always been shifty. Also, there are cracks, because there are now committed wealthy interests (mining) who are operating to reverse the election fraud trend.

I don't know about California. The entrenchment is so severe here now that reversal will nearly require uprising.

That's what I remind my wife all the time. It may not be exactly Monaco yet, but tell her where we live we are competing with the wealthy to live around here, and we have to accept the liabilities. Places like Santa Cruz are full of inheritors and trust fund hippies and the university attracts all manner of entitled aristocracy. Being California grunge fashion, you can't always tell the homeless from the RichFucks. The guy hanging out watching the surfers on a beach cruiser could be worth tens if not hundreds of millions.

Even still, those who have been around the area and are scramblers can still find digs and manage on various public assistance and hole in the wall opportunities. I know a guy who was raised in Santa Cruz, he's disabled due to mental issues. He's sober except for psych medicines, and is actually kind of heroically adaptive in his own way, and lives a five minute walk from the pier in a fully subsidized section 8 apartment.
186   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2022 Dec 5, 5:51am

Born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley(suburb of Los Angeles) and then moved around a bit in the Los Angeles Area, currently live in one of the nicest middle/upper middle class neighborhoods in LA County.

Los Angeles had a massive crime problem in the 80’s that blew up bigger than anyone in the US outside of NYC and Chicago has ever seen. Finally the imbeciles that live in City of Los Angels decided they needed to do something because there was a gang murder in a nice neighborhood(Silver Lake).

From that point, things slowly improved. Republican mayor Richard Riordan instituted empowerment tax zones to get business to fill in vacant buildings in downtown LA. This brought low end Spanish speaking business in and started downtown LA’s transformation. Eventually other measures were taken and by 2010, the homelessness was mitigated and City of Los Angeles became the safest big city in the nation. I even resided in downtown LA for a few years.

Eric Garcetti let things go to crap. Really bad. Crime has returned to pre 2000 level and homelessness is out of control. It’s by design. He did an interview after college(his dad was the DA at the time) expressing his belief that the federal government should provide housing to everyone. He intentionally fucked everything up in LA(same thing as Gruesome did to SF) in an effort to force the housing issue.

Now you have a California populace that votes against their own self interest. There is no coming back. Crime has leaked heavily into the suburbs as has homelessness. Moving out of state gets me to a safer environment, no state income tax, cheaper housing, cleaner environment, and it’s ridiculous at this point to stay in California. Wife has never been outside of California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii. We’re going on a road trip this summer for several weeks through much of the American West. Our current plan is to retire in Las Vegas in a few years but I want to see if she is more open minded after seeing more of the country, particularly several red states.

Bottom line is California is expensive, dangerous, and beyond redemption. Sad, but too many ignorant and disconnected people live here.
