Women sellers received about 97 cents for every dollar men received. But with new items, where the authors say direct comparison is easier, women received about 80 cents on average for every dollar men sellers received.
On an auction site where you have no idea, and don't give a rat's ass about, the seller's gender. I don't know how, but I'm sure this is the male patriarchy's fault.

I.e., the same explanation for any gender pay gap.
Still, I'm sure it's the fault of men for being better at something. It's a good thing women live longer or we men would get blamed for that as well.

From everything I read on gender pay gap, it's slightly more subtle:
- single women for the same occupation and same hours have pretty much the same salaries (less than 5% less). This could be explained by discrimination OR by how much they are pushing.
- married women with 2 kids or more are falling behind on wages. And this is explained by the fact that they spend less time on the job, are less available, are not as focused on their jobs, are seeking promotions as aggressively. Basically family pressures take precedence over carriers. This is less the case for men, and feminists would agree this is unfair and men should just do more childcare.

Of course this is seen as discrimination and the most likely explanation is left out: namely women are asking for lower prices and not pushing their wares as aggressively. There are 2 sides in a commercial transaction. They focus on one, ignore the other.
We know women are also paying more for used cars from dealers. Is that discrimination from dealers? Why would they ask a lower price from men?
Maybe women just don't care about money as much and just expect someone else to bring it home for them.
