I refuse to update my Google Street View because of all the stuff it asks for. Why the fuck does it need my camera, photos, documents, etc?
The NSA has serious private competition in spying on you
I hope they're spying on me. I could end up with a medal.
Don't be surprised when you wake up one morning only to see your bank account at zero and all your credit cards maxed out..
I don't use my phone for checking by bank account or buying stuff.

Buddy tracked app behavior post installation and found everything stole data and sent it to parts unknown.
Yeah, someone somewhere has a bunch of cat pictures that got off my phone.
ever install an app? then you gave up everything on your phone.
That sounds like an exaggeration, but it's difficult to safeguard. Lifehacker has an article that tries to sound reassuring, but I continue to hope for a non-profit open source OS like Linux, with some likeminded utilitarian apps.

Usually, the bank makes the app. Mine doesn't let you deposit checks by computer, but allows it by phone. I don't know why, but they seem to trust the phones more. I don't do banking on public wifi, but I do use my phone.

It's not competition. It's help.
The Fourth Amendment doesn't apply to private companies, and legal interpretations say everything already in the hands of private companies can legally be used by the NSA.
This conveniently annihilates the Fourth Amendment for them.

android lets you withdraw various app permissions, but only after the app is already installed and has already sent your all personal info back to the app creator.
