2. World leaders are getting serious about inequality. There were always going to be winners and losers from trade. It's very apparent who the losers are: the "blue collar" class in the U.S. and many parts of Europe. They see manufacturers closing up in their towns and fewer job prospects. Meanwhile, the booming high tech and service sector workers don't necessarily realize how much they benefit from the global economy.

Former British Prime Minister Blair says rewinding the clock to the closed-off world before the 1980s isn't the answer. Instead, world leaders have to do more to help those who have been left behind.

"The way to give jobs back to people who are marginalized in our society today is better education, building the right infrastructure, making sure we use technology" to improve lives, Blair said Friday.

Robert Scott agrees. Scott is the senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute and one of the biggest critics of U.S. trade policies. His analysis found the U.S. lost over 3 million jobs since 2001 because of trade with China.

"It's time to engage in fiscal stimulus like infrastructure spending and spending on education. Those are the things that create jobs and put people back to work," says Scott.

Hillary Clinton has made infrastructure spending a huge part of her economic plan. Trump also says he would do more to repair U.S. infrastructure. There are also renewed calls for European governments to spend more to boost growth and provide a bigger safety net in the EU as well.

Can someone explain to me how a sovereign Britain or a Trump America can't or wont have all of that?

Who says that the Shit head Liberal elite are synonymous with those attributes for number one.

That's just populous lies and bullshit they throw around every election cycle then continue on to do dick all but promote themselves and thier donors.

Don't worry Blair, those Kids are going to be alright!

It's the NWO speak for buying up all the nations and having a few elites control everyone. Centralized government on a massive scale, big play.

Screw them all though, America is a free nation and we always be so help us god!

I don't know why everyone is surprised that the stocks got jittery or that the pound fell. Within Minutes of the Brexit results were being announced. Soros announced he was dumping all of his Sterling Pounds and divesting from UK investments. Then a lot of other nations followed suit. NOW!!! This is the interesting Fun part.
IF Farge's new UK Government can allow natural organic winners pick up the pieces and self start UK's bright future. Without expecting some Socialist jump start.
Then they should rebound quick. They wont be part of the EU trading block big deal. But other markets they'll now have untethered access too. There is some 3.4bln L a year they give to the EU, that they will now be able to put in their NHC. I can't believe the Elite can actually conjure up so much fake rage and butt hurt from people. Who have nothing to benefit by staying in the EU, other than guaranteed Social teet, and no economic prospect what so ever.

Now today David Cameron so Cheekily concluded "Ah gee, ah yes, We probably should have listened to the Middle Class instead of trying to sit on their head in the tub under a running faucet. Oh So Sorry We now Hear you! Let's do a mulligan."

The EU has nothing to offer anyone but Slackers and French.

I once asked Rupert Murdoch why he was so opposed to the European Union. 'That’s easy,' he replied. 'When I go into Downing Street they do what I say; when I go to Brussels they take no notice.'

Also, ordinary Americans who fly their own jets to visit their golf courses in Scotland are all about fighting the EU elites, because something something George Soros something or other.

The poor state of education in Britain is inseparable from some of the equality problems. Working classes are struggling, and the dumbed down education system is producing more of them

Are wages for the educated skyrocketing in Britain? If not, no shortage. Shortage=higher prices (salaries).

I remember the story of a Cum Laude Geology graduate who was forced to stop interning at a local museum and instead work at TESCO stocking shelves to keep her benefits. If there is such a demand for educated employees going unfilled, why wasn't she employed as a Geologist - an educated, STEM career - to begin with?

In any case, UK is loaded with RX and Chip Designing companies. Problem is, they don't require the same number of employees as the 'old' industries they replaced. And can NEVER provide the same level of employment.

A Car Factory that employed 5000 was replaced by an RX Co that employs 500. Where are the other 4500 jobs coming from, plus a lot more to account for the massive numbers of immigrants?

There's no chance there will be 10 more Rx Companies, that's totally unrealistic, the global market can't support it.

Britain should be building massive New Towns and Flats left and right in a major new Council Building project, and make the banks pay for it in return for their big bailout when they brought the world to the brink of failure and the ordinary people were squeezed to bail them out. They can do so via 1.5% bonds.

BULLSHIT!!! Republicans prevented all outsourcing.....because they love America.

Sure, but technology advancement isn't going to be stopped so that those 5000 can be car factory workers forever. People looking backwards are screwed.

Germany does a great job managing industrial jobs. The US and UK are like "Meh, whatever big bankers want. Go ahead and outsource freely!"

Eventually you have to sell to buy, you can't keep charging the credit card forever. The US/UK Debt Ratios are that of a spendthrift going through the family fortune at lightspeed, not ones of a country growing from free trade and growth in financial and intangible services to a sunny future of great wealth.

Also Mortgage Paperwork cannot be turned into Tanks and Jet Fighters. Car Plants and Engine Factories can do that.

Finally, a finance/services driven economy wants a strong currency to buy assets abroad; this is directly at the expense of the competitiveness of industry. The governments are choosing to put banking over industry; and pursues policies always to benefit banks over domestic industry at every turn. It is far from an unbiased referee and the current economic make-up is not mere accident or a by-product of 'progress'

And that's the public finances; the aggregated private debt is even worse

I think that their point was that those auto plant jobs didn't disappear, they moved to Mexico. And when your GM plant shuts down and is replaced by an Amazon warehouse with fewer low paying jobs (which did happen in Baltimore), selling each other crap made in China, Mexico, Korea, etc is not an economy.

Exactly. And manufacturing is a zero-sum game: There is only demand for the output of so many plants, and the manufacturers will always go to the lowest wage producing country.

Ricardo does not apply because his examples were agricultural, climatic conditions like sheep and wine.

NAFTA greatly accelerated this process and the only person, in retrospect, who was on the right side of the issue was Ross Perot

How much of their money is Trump taking?

How much money is Trump taking from the financial services industry (wall st)?

Electing trump is no guarantee, but you know what Clinton is about for sure.
