“As an alumnus of the college, I feel that I have been lied to, patronized and basically dismissed as an old, white bigot who is insensitive to the needs and feelings of the current college community,” Mr. MacConnell, 77, wrote in a letter to the college’s alumni fund in December, when he first warned that he was reducing his support to the college to a token $5.

A backlash from alumni is an unexpected aftershock of the campus disruptions of the last academic year. Although fund-raisers are still gauging the extent of the effect on philanthropy, some colleges — particularly small, elite liberal arts institutions — have reported a decline in donations, accompanied by a laundry list of complaints.

Alumni from a range of generations say they are baffled by today’s college culture. Among their laments: Students are too wrapped up in racial and identity politics. They are allowed to take too many frivolous courses. They have repudiated the heroes and traditions of the past by judging them by today’s standards rather than in the context of their times. Fraternities are being unfairly maligned, and men are being demonized by sexual assault investigations. And university administrations have been too meek in addressing protesters whose messages have seemed to fly in the face of free speech.

As good a forum as any to say I don't mind hearing of college graduates having trouble finding jobs or having to pay back huge loans. If they are ignorant enough to sit through classes in ( )-Studies, having Western classics, or anything for that matter, deconstructed in the context of race/class/gender/sexual orientation and hatred of the patriarchy, if they never have a job paying more than minimum wage, it's not going to keep me awake at night. Places where "students" have huge demonstrations because something offended their tender sensibilities.

You realize of course that the 60's Marxist urban terrorist Angela Davis was a professor at the University of California (where else?), Santa Cruz, in its History Consciousness Department (you can just imagine what that course was like), and former director of the university's Feminist Studies (surprise, surprise) department. Create maybe one million clones of her and you have the faculties of probably the most prestigious public universities in the nation, including Harvard, Yale and Brown, to paraphrase a 20's song. Students and parents bellyache about huge debts, but what are the debts for? Being indoctrinated? How is that useful in life? Bill Ayers, although now retired, fits the bill perfectly.

There's actually too much choice for undergrads, esp. on the 100-200 level.

Frankly you get Liberal Arts grads, even in Literature, who have never read an Eternal Author: Aristotle, Voltaire, Homer, Smith, Marx, etc. Just Maya Fucking Angelou and a "Survey of 1970s Feminist Culture featuring Lavender Jane Loves Women".

The Alumni and State Governments need to reign this shit in.

having Western classics,

Most of them have never read one. If they did, quite a few would compare ee cummings to Virgil or Sappho and realize who is more eternal and important.

The sad thing is we've been telling liberals for a long time that their ideas are failing the society, and they need to go back to being more conservative and not just call everyone a racist upon disagreement. They never listened, and now we all get to live in society that is hell bent on ass backwards communist ideologies from which nations like USSR fell apart.

another excellent quote from that article:

Scott C. Johnston, who graduated from Yale in 1982, said he was on campus when activists tried to shut down a free speech conference, "because apparently they missed irony class that day."

They will suck every last drop of it out of that toothpaste tube. Why stop a winning formula?
It's going to take some making them stop.

I think in Germany when sensible people get the upper hand again. They will understand the 50's era McCarthyism.
And Liberalism will one day be a crime punishable by death. Less you want to be hauled off for prison for talking about foreign invading rapists, and live in a government that protects Rapist murders and arrest those that speak out against it. Liberalism, socialism and your general run of the mill Democrat will be a Criminal worldwide within 5 to 10 years. And the worst detriment to world peace at home and abroad.
