Pepe's got me thinking. It's just so much fun to drive easily triggered fools to insanity (any beyond!) by calmly saying or implying something just over the edge of PC-acceptability.

What are the ingredients for world-class trolling? How can I make patrick.net a center for exchange of knowledge in this delicious technique and technology?

A few thoughts:

* The trolling has to be done with an entirely straight face. The victim has to think you're serious.
* The remark has to be somewhat ambiguous, so that you have plausible deniability and can claim the victim simply misunderstood.
* The victim must respond far out of proportion, nicely illustrating their hyper-sensitive intolerant neuroticism.

Hugh Mungus was clearly an expert.

Just thought I'd share some further steps that may be applicable for a successful trolling. Apply at your own risk.

Patrick says

* The trolling has to be done with an entirely straight face. The victim has to think you're serious.

Then follow up with: What do you mean? I AM being serious! And *I* am the victim here!

* The remark has to be somewhat ambiguous, so that you have plausible deniability and can claim the victim simply misunderstood.

Follow up: I can't BELIEVE you would stereotype me like that!

* The victim must respond far out of proportion, nicely illustrating their hyper-sensitive intolerant neuroticism.

Follow up: Uh, hello? Aren't you forgetting something? Knock, knock! -Who's there? The VICTIM is here!

I triggered Dan a few too many times with impeccable logic vs. his quasi-scientific emotional rants. Which is why he put me on ignore. Does that mean I won at trolling him?

17   Shaman   2016 Oct 2, 8:52pm

It was also enjoyable to troll Yesynot over the Orlando shooter. I called him a homophobe because he was saying the only reason the shooter committed the crime was because he was gay. That was fun to turn the tables. He got super concerned and confused about it all😛

Technical problem, Patrick:

I posted the above (in other words, I was logged in). Then I clicked on the backlink to the Hugh Mungus thread, and suddenly I was no longer logged in. That seems strange, have not seen that before.

UPDATE: NEVER MIND, it was due to using COOKIESWAP extension. I had swapped the cookies but somehow I stayed authorized on this page (backend only checks when loading a new/different page?)

Don't get your panties in a bunch, CIC. I have no problem taking a minute to make trolls look the fools they are. I find it enjoyable to publicly humiliate you. Besides, there is a purpose to ridiculing the village idiots. It makes the position less appealing to future fools.

But hey, if you trolls want to live in a fantasy world in which you believe you actually have an impact on other people's lives, who am I to deny you the one feeble joy in your life. You guys are always good for a laugh anyway. Plus whenever conservatives try to take the moral high ground, we can always point to you as examples of why conservatives are poor excuses for human beings. So keep it up, suckers!

Lie all you want. The entire history of my posts demonstrate clearly that I welcome, even seek, constructive debate of all ideas I have. The fact that you say otherwise indicates how dishonest you are.

My entire philosophy is that everything is questionable and that the truth becomes more apparent with questioning.

Losers like you simply don't like that you cannot argue on an adult level with facts and evidence. You are incapable of attacking arguments, which is why you always resort to attacking the messenger while ignoring the message.

But hey, prove me wrong. Show me a single argument made against anything I ever said that I refused to address. You can't do that.

errc says

In the war of ideas, in our system, all are allowed a voice and democratically we choose to listen to what has value. Only superior ideas will remain, and it absolutely matters who the messenger is.

31   turtledove   2016 Oct 3, 10:56am

I don't think you have to do anything special... Some people just get a kick out of triggering others. It comes naturally to them, and they will serve this purpose well without you having to lift a finger.

Personally, I don't actually enjoy upsetting people. So, I tend to pull out of the conversation if I think that a person is taking things too seriously... I just don't see the point. 1) I don't really need to be validated as "right" by people I don't know; 2) you never know what is going through another person's head, so why risk it?

The second reason is an important one, to me. You just don't really know the person you are talking to on this forum. Because it's not an in-person conversation, there are a lot of cues that you just cannot benefit from. Is the person on the edge? Is the person in a bad place? Is the person a potential psychopath? I would hate to think that I ever wrote something that turned out to be the final straw before the person took his own life or went off the rails and punched his kid, or something... Or created my own personal stalker. I'm not saying that anyone would do anything like that... but that's the point. You just never know. So, I try not to go out of my way to push people too far... and if I think that someone is taking it too seriously, I'd rather disengage than risk that I'm the one who pushed a person over the edge.

The merit of an idea has nothing to do with who presents it. Even a broken clock can be right some of the time.

Sure, we tend to ignore what idiots like CIC say, but we dismiss CIC because he constantly spouts nonsense. We know it's nonsense, not because CIC said it, but because the content is clearly contradicted by reality.

Also, truth is not a democracy. It is not the number of people who accept an idea that makes it credible. It is the amount and quality of evidence that gives merit to an idea.

However, I do agree that all ideas should be subject to the crucible of testing and verifying.

34   Dan8267   2016 Oct 3, 11:29am

If one were to look up loser in a dictionary, CIC's fat ass would be the illustration. Here's a guy who
1. Begged to meet up with me in real life and then chicken-shitted out of it three times.
2. Hides in NJ and refuses to give his real address even though he "invited me to his house". How can I show up at his house, or rather bathroom stop, if he keeps the address secret? Obviously he had no intention of meeting up.
3. Doesn't realize that solar powered wireless access points can work at night because of #rechargeableBatteriesDumbass.

This guy is a real idiot and a coward. And he's had sex with more goats than an ISIS recruit.

When not trolling, CIC likes to pray to Allah with his lover.

Honey, the only emotion I'm experience right now is laughter as I laugh my ass off at how easy it is to goat, pun intended, you.

Just because people make fun of you, doesn't mean they are the ones with emotional control issues. You simply deserve ridicule. If laughing at a fool is being triggered, then you certainly do trigger me every day. So keep pulling my trigger and I'll keep squirting on your face. Just pull a bit faster...

CIC after "triggering" Dan...

37   Dan8267   2016 Oct 3, 2:45pm

Consensus can be wrong. A drug doesn't cure cancer simply because lots of people say it does. The proof is whether or not it actually works. Even medicine ultimately has to yield to the scientific method.

38   anonymous   2016 Oct 3, 2:47pm

And science. Consensus science

39   Dan8267   2016 Oct 3, 3:02pm

errc says

And science. Consensus science

No. Science is not a democracy. Is it any surprise the biggest fools are the ones making these mistakes?

Science is based on a consensus of observation and experiment, not a consensus of people. It's when all the experiments agree and produce the same result that you have a scientific consensus.

This is because you are a girl. Men have no such qualms, and in fact probably would take great joy over sending some wussy man over the edge merely by uttering a few phrases. In fact we're about to find out which accounts are girls pretending to be boys as surely they will come to argue about why not all men are as juvenile in their thoughts as I am.

41   Dan8267   2016 Oct 3, 4:03pm

LOL, CIC thinks checkmate is when he moves the other player's pieces to positions that benefit himself. That's not how chess is played. In a argument you don't get to cut and paste individual words from your opponent to form sentences he never said.

42   Mrs Wonderful   2016 Oct 3, 5:06pm

Want to try for a dozen???

Can you count that high?

In any case, it does not matter how many times you repeat a lie. You are fooling no one.

Ironman says

I proved, with facts, both times when I was in Florida, but you decided to hide in your closet..

The facts do not support this.

Dan8267 says

If anyone wants to meet us at Georgie's to see CIC pussy out, check out their menu.

Dan8267 says

sbh says

Ask him for his local hotel room and you can meet there.

He'll give a fake number and then pussy out saying that he had checked out just before I arrived. If he can make it to Boca, he can make it to Georgie's in Ft. Lauderdale tonight. It's a 20 minute drive, max. Plain and simple. He won't be there.

Dan8267 says

CIC is suddenly awfully quite. Maybe he's hoping he can pussy out by saying it was late an he didn't read PatNet after his last post. I call bullshit on that right now. He posts all the time at night.

It's somehow appropriate that a thread started by calling out Strategist's hypocrisy should end by demonstrating CIC's hypocrisy.

Dan8267 says

Well, I'm off to Georgie's. Anyone want to take bets that chickenshit CIC will show up?

www.youtube.com/embed/3GTLM89pN0A

The thing is, CIC is hiding out like any fat, ugly, whimpy troll would, so I don't know what he looks like. All I have to go on is this short clip of him...

www.youtube.com/embed/EsLVihNkIzw

Well, I'll be the good looking guy in the hunter green shirt, khaki pants, and black Tommy Bahama hat. I'll probably be by the pool tables. Can't miss me. I'll report back when CIC doesn't show up.

Dan8267 says

He didn't show up, so I opened a new thread just for the coward. Of course, we all knew he'd chicken out.

There you have it. The full story. CIC chickenshitted out of meeting up. At no time did he give any evidence that he himself actually was in Florida because doing so would require giving up his anonymity and there is no way he would do that. Of course, that's also why he would never show up.

Ironman says

Yet, when you come to NJ, you don't post any information,

I don't need to post my real world identity to receive YOUR home address and show up with camera-phone in hand to snap pictures of your fat, ugly ass. However, you do need to post YOUR real home address to have someone show up for it, dumb ass. How else do you expect people to show up?

Of course, we all know that your childish ploy to get my real ID was just a fake and you would never post your real ID in return. Nor would you ever actually meet up in real life because you are a coward. You just want my real ID so you can stalk me, but honey, I'm not as dumb as you. No one is.

But hey, prove me wrong. Post your real address now. If you were actually serious about me coming to your house, you'd have to give that information. If you don't post it, then you are proving that you are a coward and a liar. If you bluff, be prepared for people to call your hand.

Ironman says

Now, check in a separate, non-logged in browser so you can read my comment, copy and paste it, then go into your logged in browser and show us another animal sex meme.

Like you aren't just now doing the exact same thing hypocrite. I've always been consistent on my position. I use the "ignore" function not to ignore but to simply ban trolls from my threads. I'd ban you from every thread if I could. I have no problem reading your inane postings or letting you read mine. But until @Patrick implements a "ban" feature that just bans a troll from a user's threads as I have requested, I stuck using ignore for that function. Bitch and moan all you want, I'm not letting you in my threads, bitch.

@errc Please tell me more. I don't know what you mean by clicking "NEW" on a thread.

You mean when you click "latest comment" from the home page or some other list of threads? There is the possibility that the person who wrote the latest comment is ignoring you, in which case you will in fact just see the Original Post.

Newsweek Journalist Cries “Assault” After Epilepsy Triggered By Pepe on Twitter

In one of the funniest, most hysterical op-eds I’ve ever seen on Newsweek, the author claims he was cyber-assaulted by a Pepe meme. That’s not hyperbole, either — he truly believes that being sent a meme on Twitter rose to the level of criminal assault because the meme intentionally triggered his epilepsy.
