Saw this post on craigslist, and when I asked about the profession specification, was told it was a zoning thing. Does anyone know the code they are referencing? I thought any land permitted as a residence allowed anyone to live there. This was especially surprising to hear considering California's over-the-top anti-discrimation laws.

Probably just some bullshit they made up. People usually use 'professional' to turn off the uneducated.

Seems craigslist is blocking it for the ?ref=patrick.net inserted at the end. Not sure this is a bug, thinking more of a security measure by craigslist as they deal with an inordinate amount of spam postings. Anyway, if you remove the query string, the post is still up.

I asked them to cite the section they were referring to, haven't heard back yet. I'm kind of doubting it's fake, since anti-discriminatory laws in California could cause them to get into a lot of trouble if someone reported it.

Probably an agricultural area subdivided into ranches. The owner may be getting an "agricultural" tax rate that requires a bona-fide agricultural use of the property be maintained. I've heard of people who keep a few head of cattle on their property exactly enough days a year to be compliant with this sort of requirement. Could also be some kind of CCR to keep yuppies from moving into farm territory then complaining nonstop about the dust, smell, and bugs.

The add specifies you have to be in the industry, not engage in the activity at the residence. Does that still count?

Also, I grow a garden every spring, does that qualify me?

Are you getting a agricultural subsidy like Republicans in the fly over states?
No way,Republicans sucked that teat dry.

Emailed the owner asking if at home gardening qualifies me. Interested to see if they ever get back. I do have legitimate interest as I like Alpine, would like to move out of city, and rent is good(for the market). That requirement is a red flag though until it's explained.

Called this morning, and the guy explained there are zoning laws in San Diego county that "reserve" certain parcels of land in the country for housing to country workers. You have to derive at least 51% of your income from this source. Now there is quite a bit of flex, such that if one person in the household makes their money rescuing dogs, he can technically just rent to that person. I think the zoning also had something to do with getting the house permitted on his land. He said make sure to ask about this, since some rentals do not disclose, and if the county ever checks up on you, you could be evicted. Good to know.

"Professional" is code for employed white or Asian, or Bentley driving Negro.
