(CNN)Two counselors at an addiction facility in southeastern Pennsylvania died after overdosing on opioids, according to the Chester County District Attorney.
"If anybody is wondering how bad the opioid epidemic has become, this case is a frightening example," Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said. "The staff members in charge of supervising recovering addicts succumbed to their own addiction and died of opioid overdoses. Opioids are a monster that is slowly consuming our population." Authorities haven't released the counselors' names.
First responders were called Monday to Freedom Ridge Recovery Lodge in West Brandywine Township, a private group home and halfway house for struggling drug addicts, according to the district attorney's office.

Subsidies to Republicans do not exist.

Back in the 2000s, when my friend was working at UT/SW Medical Center's testing facility for STD's, they had a mobile unit they would park in the heart of the gay district so people could get tested, staffed by two UT employees. When the blood samples began to be tested they noticed something peculiar about the samples and determined that the majority of the samples were taken from the two HIV positive staff members--they weren't fired, just admonished not to do it again. He said that kind of mindset and attitude was rife among the employees where he worked and he finally got enough of it and left.

Liberals :"Hey let's do something about the Drug epidemic!"

two years later :1.5 million dead from Phenatol overdose, and every government funded clinic is headed and staffed by Drug addicts that moonlight as Obamacare patient creators, through robberies, break ins, and sour drug deals.

Never go to a Liberal for help EVER!!!

Drug addiction has an extremely high relapse rate. You could say that relapse is the major symptom of the condition.

It is estimated that only about two to four percent of hard core, addicted drug users ever get drug free for any sustainable length of time. Most addicts just use rehabs and dry out facilities as time out to allow their bodies to withdraw, so they can actually feel high again. Addicts are also functionally sociopathic, because they will do ANYTHING and tell any lie or perform any manipulation to obtain their drug of choice.

Even in China, where draconian punishments have been rendered for drug use, only a very small percentage of the addicts stop using.

Addiction is pretty much a drawn out death sentence. Yes, trusties at rehabs who are addicts themselves often relapse and even sell drugs to or cover up for residents.

The major arguments against government funded rehabs is the phenomenally high relapse rate i.e. they would just keep recycling the same relapsing, dying people and give them some extra time and attention, without any long term effective treatment. Effective treatment and actual sobriety stem only from the motivation of the addict and can seldom be imposed. Funded rehabs aimed at sobriety would just be another government tax cost black hole for an entrenched bureaucracy chasing a pointless and largely futile goal.

The best solution is probably just to let addicts use in controlled conditions and environments, giving them the drugs they want until they succumb, with a certain amount of humane, supportive therapy and allowances for social interaction. There aren't really too many paying jobs that addicts can perform on a regular basis, but there are some. They'll die, but the social harms to others and themselves will be minimized.

Some narcotics addicts can live to surprisingly old ages if they get the drugs they want in hygienic conditions.

I call them the terrible Re twins: Rehab and Relapse.

This wouldn't have happened if all drugs were legal, right? RIGHT???

Drugs addiction schmug aschmiction

I remember when Nancy Reagan decided no more Qualudes in America.

They were scarce within a week, and totally extinct before the month was over.

We have an opium pandemic in this country because Liberals fund their bullshit with it.

What difference would it make since many are addicted to prescription drugs--how would making Vicodin or Oxycontin available over the counter stifle addiction?

Effective treatment and actual sobriety stem only from the motivation of the addict and can seldom be imposed.

Taking a cue from Alcoholic's Annonymous (AA), founded in 1935, its original program was unabashadley based upon first century Christianity at a time when Christianity was ascendant and considered if not in fact, at least in theory the national religion. There was much emphasis upon the idea of moral responsiblity on the part of the addict to change their spiritual outlook upon life, admitting their need of God's power in their lives:

"AA's program is an inheritor of Counter-Enlightenment philosophy. AA shares the view that acceptance of one's inherent limitations is critical to finding one's proper place among other humans and God. Such ideas are described as "Counter-Enlightenment" because they are contrary to the Enlightenment's ideal that humans have the capacity to make their lives and societies a heaven on earth using their own power and reason."

However, that view has fallen greatly out of favor in more recent decades where now

"To be all-encompassing AA's ideology places an emphasis on tolerance rather than on a narrow religious worldview that could make the organization unpalatable to potential members and thereby limit its effectiveness."

Actually, just as in AA, modern drug programs seem to be pretty ineffective despite their tolerance and abandonment of a narrow religious worldview.

Finally

"A study found an association between an increase in attendance to AA meetings with increased spirituality and a decrease in the frequency and intensity of alcohol use. The research also found that AA was effective at helping agnostics and atheists become sober. The authors concluded that though spirituality was an important mechanism of behavioral change for some alcoholics, it was not the only effective mechanism. Since the mid-1970s, a number of 'agnostic' or 'no-prayer' AA groups have begun across the U.S., Canada, and other parts of the world, which hold meetings that adhere to a tradition allowing alcoholics to freely express their doubts or disbelief that spirituality will help their recovery, and forgo use of opening or closing prayers."

"Since the mid-1970's...." pretty much says it all and that's where we are today with the terrible Re twins.

I've seen lude epidemic in the 70's
I've seen Heroine in the 70's through 90's
then we saw Crack the only reason Crack lost traction is America stopped the endless supply of Eater and Accetone the key ingredients to purify the coca paste into pure pharmicudical grade that it is so damned addicting even a match head worth of it. South Ameirca still produces Coke, but's shit, the market has all but died. FARC groups that were making it for the CIA have all come down from the Jungles looking for room in Columbian politics now because coke is a dead market.
The only reason pills and heroine are so pandemic in this country is because it is allowed to be as available as low grade weed.

12   Tenpoundbass   2017 May 25, 3:23pm

Everytime these Drug fads fade the only thing that caused it's decline has always been politcal shifts in the conditions that created the supply for those drugs. The demand dies when the supply is cut.
Crack heads didn't become pill poppers. The druggies don't progress with the new drug import of choice. New druggies are created to consume them.
