Gentle Reader,

We need a better healthcare system. What we are getting is a payout to Billionaires, and a good, deep anal probing. I find it incredible that we are being saved from this by John McCain and two or so other Republicans: Senator Rand Paul, Republican of Kentucky, Senator Susan Collins, Republican of Maine, and possibly Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

Graham-Cassidy health-care block grants to the States bill indeed. Cassidy is a Senator from my state of Louisiana. I'm not sure what to make of him. He is either a clueless, naive, nincompoop, or someone who just doesn't give a good goddamn about anyone else or his obligations as a Senator. I'm not sure what the difference is, but there you are.

Regards,
Roidy
P.S. I need an ApocalypseFuck_Is_Adorable rancid clam fart comment at this juncture.

So in one year you'd have to give them $24,598.20 before they'll pay anything.

@Roidy - It is refreshing to hear that Louisiana remains a full fledged banana republic after being gone from there so long. One of the stellar moments of the legislature in Baton Rouge was when they resorted to throwing chicken bones etc. at each other during one session. You just can't put a price tag on that kind of representation. And who can forget that Cajun cutie pie Edwin Edwards and the Perez brothers - how do you manage to keep your sanity there ?

Gentle Reader,

Insanity is why I live here. I'm not really noticed in Louisiana.

Roidy

Nope--they'll say that health care costs have been rising just as fast before Obamacare and will stay just as high if it's repealed.

Actually it is a lie. If you got sick in January, you will have only paid one month's premium.

So how do we know this isn't photo shopped or for someone with terminal cancer? What state, what coverage, how many people, what conditions, what income? Ridiculous even for you.

Here is the illness:

(from http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/top.php?indexType=s )

Six of the top eight purchasers of Congressmen like the system as it is, or want even higher costs for the public.

The main problem, as usual, is the US Chamber of Commerce, which hates hates hates the idea of portable health insurance because it lets employees quit more easily. Makes the boss unhappy. As the business lobby, their job is to put the hurt on workers for the benefit of employers. Anything thinking of quitting or working on their own business must be financially punished severely!

The AARP, representing those with one foot in the grave already (too much truth there, I know), wants unlimited medical spending on the last decade of life, and they are getting it:

The others heartily agree with the US CoC and AARP that the public should be forced by law (Thanks Obamacare!) to pay ever-rising premiums, forever.

Gentle Reader,

It would help me if you could provide some more context to you included image. I mean this is Blue Cross Blue Shield but there is nothing there. No official logo, nothing. I'm declaring this a bogus image unless and until more information is given about it.

Now, on the other hand, the AHA really needs some work. I think I'd like single payer, but no one else seems to be talking about this. We need universal coverage which is Medicare/Medicaid which allows everyone to have coverage. Yes, no one opts out. Young healthy people refuse health unsurance until they are sick. Then it is a "preexisting condition." Block grants are just used buttwipe.

Roidy

We should just copy the Swedish system, but there is a big impediment: we have too much diversity.

The harm of diversity is that the public simply doesn't give a shit about each other anymore.

http://archive.boston.com/news/globe/ideas/articles/2007/08/05/the_downside_ofdiversity/
"People would say, 'I bet you forgot about X,'" Putnam says of the string of suggestions from colleagues. "There were 20 or 30 X's."

But even after statistically taking them all into account, the connection remained strong: Higher diversity meant lower social capital. In his findings, Putnam writes that those in more diverse communities tend to "distrust their neighbors, regardless of the color of their skin, to withdraw even from close friends, to expect the worst from their community and its leaders, to volunteer less, give less to charity and work on community projects less often, to register to vote less, to agitate for social reform more but have less faith that they can actually make a difference, and to huddle unhappily in front of the television."

"People living in ethnically diverse settings appear to 'hunker down' -- that is, to pull in like a turtle," Putnam writes.

Geez. This chart has been debunked on at least 4 separate threads and yet it still keeps coming back. Amazing.
