Just bonuses.

Although yes, the tax cuts haven't really helped the WaPo employees, who are being told after two years of a return to profitability they're lucky to have jobs, keep repeating Deep State smears, and shut up.

If the government wants to put more money in the taxpayers pockets, why not just cut their taxes instead of the rich and corporations?

plans to use savings from the Republican tax plan to fund the cuts

So they could not afford to lay off workers without the tax cuts? Really?

The idea is to make American businesses competitive with the rest of the world, which leads to hiring, which leads to wage pressure, which leads to higher wages. As long as you can keep the lid on mass immigration, that is!
Good thing we got a Trump for that!

They did with the new tax plan, the average wage earner making $50K will see like an additional $30/week in their check starting next month. That's enough for a tank and a half of gas a week.

One time bonuses (not grossed up for taxes no less) are not a suitable substitute for a decent pay raise

Lower payroll taxes is just like getting a pay raise if you're bringing home MORE money each week.

You're missing the big picture. If your neighbor gets a bigger tax break than you, you just fell behind. Asset prices and pricing power is controlled by those who make the most money.

No, if your neighbor makes more money than you, you just scored because your house price is going up.

Alternatively, I could interpret your comment as: “unless everyone is equal, we don’t have a good society.”
This sentiment is derived directly from a femnocentric idea of the world where the traditional female role was to apportion out resources so that everyone in the family had enough. While this works to a limited degree within a family, it’s a fucking disaster when applied to a nation or (shudder) the world at large. The entire REASON we have money or an economy is to provide INCENTIVE for men (and women) to work and produce and invent and create! The more fairly a person is rewarded for their contribution, the greater the aggregate contribution will be because people will work harder, create better, and produce more than you could ever force them to do.

This is the miracle of capitalism, and it’s the government’s job not to evenly distribute resources as a mother does with her children, but to create and maintain fair rules by which UNequal contributions will be rewarded UNequally, and thus ensure a civilization that is prosperous with an abundance of resources.

If we were all millionaires, a million bucks wouldn’t be worth much, because nobody would have incentive to produce anything to buy with that money!

Ok, Econ 101 is over. Class dismissed.

The maker of Huggies and Kleenex is firing up to 5,500 workers — and it's using Trump tax cuts to pay for the layoffs.....

From the NYTimes article:

"One particular area of weakness are diaper sales in the United States — a slowdown that Kimberly Clark executives attributed to lower birthrates.

That development may be partly driven by millennials who are putting off or skipping parenthood. Whatever the reason, analysts at JPMorgan Chase attributed their negative view of the company in part to that demographic trend. In October, when the bank downgraded Kimberly-Clark to “underweight,” it wrote: “Looking ahead, we see potential for an incremental downtick in the birthrate.”"

Wrong.

It's because he pays MORE taxes than me.

Simple math that escapes a few.

Question. Over the last 12 months, are you doing better or worse than the previous 12 months?

I don’t know anyone doing worse outside of a cancer diagnosis or something like that. Not sure what the constant complaining is for. Lots of people need to grow up and realize complaining about an elected official isn’t doing anything. People need to look in the mirror and realize how foolish they look sometimes.

It's good news some (not many) working people are getting some money. It's bullshit that the tax cut is going to raise the average persons wage more than a negligible amount. Corporations aren't stupid. They are putting on a full court publicity press to make sure the republicans don't lose congress in 2018. Note how much of this stuff is bonuses that won't be repeated after the election. Who knows if this is spontaneous or if there was a wink wink nod nod deal in return for the tax cut. Even so they are burning 100 dollar bills to light shareholders cigars while dropping lose change on the ground for workers.
