President Donald Trump threatened to bar asylum-seeking Central American migrants from entering the U.S. illegally on Monday while dangling the possibility of making stricter border enforcement a demand in NAFTA negotiations talks with Mexico.
The president, who earlier this month decried reports of an incoming "caravan" of migrants marching across Mexico toward the U.S. in search of refuge, tweeted that he had instructed federal authorities to bar them from crossing the southern border.
“We’ve got M242 Bushmasters with orders to fire at will at the border.” Said the president. “They’ll light ‘em up.”
