Again another thing I don't understand. The comments I see most often on social media have to do with unmeasurable, vague concepts along the lines of "This is how we are going to define what the United States is".

Basically rubbish like this:

Stated U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela (D-TX), who penned an infamously scathing letter to Trump slamming the border wall when Trump was still a candidate:

The border wall is a physical representation of the cultural and racial insults President Trump has spewed since his campaign announcement. A physical wall is also a wasteful expenditure of taxpayer dollars, endangers wildlife, stomps on property rights of private landowners, and isolates our partner, Mexico. Mr. Trump, you’re a racist and you can take your border wall and shove it up your ass.

“As I have been saying for years, a wall from sea to shining sea is the least effective and most expensive solution for border security. This is especially true in areas, like Big Bend National Park, where rough terrain, natural barriers, and the remoteness of a location render a wall or other structure impractical and ineffective. While I would like to think that common sense would dictate that the placement of a wall through the Boquillas Canyon in Big Bend or Lake Amistad in Del Rio is a bad idea, my amendment ensures that this point is clearly stated in this the bill, preventing hard-earned taxpayer dollars from being wasted on ineffective features,” said Hurd whose district includes over 800 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, more than any other Member of Congress.

Texas Rep. Will Hurd (R) about the Great Wall.

More from him:

“Violent drug cartels are using more modern technology to breach our border than what we are using to secure it. We can’t double down on a Third Century approach to solve 21st Century problems if we want a viable long-term solution,” said Hurd who represents over 800 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, more than any other Member of Congress. “We need a Smart Wall that uses high-tech resources like sensors, radar, LIDAR, fiber optics, drones and cameras to detect and then track incursions across our border so we can deploy efficiently our most important resource, the men and women of Border Patrol to perform the most difficult task -- interdiction. With a Smart Wall, we can have a more secure border at a fraction of the cost – that can be implemented and fully operational within a year. It’s time to harness American innovation on this most important National Security challenge and I look forward to working with my colleagues to make this a reality.”

I get that and agree with some of it. However literally no one on the left is making that argument in my sort of honest way.
3   ForcedTQ   2018 Apr 29, 8:31pm

Interval spaced turret-mounted M134s are what is needed. Immediate consequence for passing into the United States of America without going through border crossing stations. If you can remotely man a drone, you can remotely man a gatling gun to stop invaders. If they're legal they should be passing through the proper crossing stations. If not, then no protection under the law, so..... With all of the bullshit talk of asylum for the mob there now, they need to look at what they can do to fix their countries, not enter our country with the express intention to maintain their culture/government ideals and shit on existing residents' culture/government ideals.

And this will never happen if the people with the gumption to migrate (which is pretty damn dangerous) leave.

No jobs, no illegals, no need for a wall, no need to pay for a wall or making rich a bunch of friends of trump building a wall.

Remind me when ice is going to start raiding purdue, smithfield, and trump properties to haul off ceo's in handcuffs. Oh wait ICE gave a couple bodega owners in the bronx a warning recently . That's a big deterrent.

What race? It would do a great service to all if we could stop using made up names like Hispanic, and educate the folks from non Anglo-Teutonic America on the horrors of their Spanish heritage and the history of the Indians of Central and south America.

Someone was a away for a few days, probably was at trolling camp, getting additional training.

Education can be a great teacher:

There's at least 40 countries with border walls, but hey, they don't work.....

Glad you asked. Focus on demand rather than supply.

If employers of illegals were prosecuted, as they should be, jobs for illegals would disappear and they would stop coming.

How come it's not "ridiculously high and unsupportable" for Israel? It's not like they are more affluent as a country than US.

Israel relies on massive subsidies and support from easily manipulated “Americans”.

Stop giving handouts to Israel then you could use that money to prove that the border wall fails to achieve anything Chumpkins claim it will

Israel gets about $3.5B in aid from US. This is about 1% of their GDP. Even if US completely withdraws the aid I seriously doubt it will cause Israel to abandon their defensive effort and open their borders to the invading hordes.

Many of those 150 miles are in dense built up neighborhoods with Islamist jihadis digging tunnels and firing rockets over the border - which I would argue is harder to guard than the US Southern Border which is primarily desert and open space.

I would take that argument. Once an illegal cuts a hole in the fence, which would be easier to fix?

That is the price we pay to prevent Israel from ending up like the rest of the of the non-Muslim religious minorities in the Middle East who have already been executed, ethnically cleansed or sold into sexual slavery.

MS-13 is so small and insignificant they may as well not even exist.

Yet Chumpkins keep pretending there’s a there, there

Yep all 10k MS-13 members out of 10+ million illegals. MS-13 originated in the US and moved out to other countries, not the other way around.

Proof that propaganda is very effective

Talk about effective propaganda!

Building a fence is a bigger project and more complicated than the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956?

How about California's high speed rail project? Latest estimates are putting that at $77 billion while the border wall is only $21 billion.

It IS in the purview of the government to protect the border. It's all that entitlement crap that perpetuates victimhood and poverty that we have a problem with.
29   Tenpoundbass   2018 Jul 30, 11:57am

When you have a wall, border or a guarded premeter.
Then you take intruders and interlopers more seriously.
The wall is less about actually keeping people out, as it is a symbol what awaits those who breech it.

Interesting how the narrative changes when the first narrative about walls not working, with facts, gets destroyed.

Why is that?

Nothing got changed. There are no similar walls to the one the US wants to build that have been proven to work. period. It's like building a dam across the widest part of the Amazon river--you argue that a Dam worked on a creek in Michigan so therefore this Dam spanning the widest part of the Amazon also will work.

We can't even arrest Democrat politicians that openly go against Federal immigration law with their goofy sanctuary city policies.

Once we get more Democrats out of Congress, we can get more serious about enforcement. Until then Bob - YOUR party is the biggest obstacle.

Even has a pedestrian radar and sound sensors that detect vehicle and foot traffic.
