Judge excoriates Mueller Team and their Request

(CNN) A federal judge expressed deep skepticism Friday in the bank fraud case brought by special counsel Robert Mueller's office against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, at one point saying he believes that Mueller's motivation is to oust President Donald Trump from office.

Although Mueller's authority has been tested in court before, Friday's hearing was notable for District Judge T.S. Ellis' decision to wade into the divisive political debate around the investigation.

"You don't really care about Mr. Manafort's bank fraud," Ellis said to prosecutor Michael Dreeben, at times losing his temper. Ellis said prosecutors were interested in Manafort because of his potential to provide material that would lead to Trump's "prosecution or impeachment," Ellis said.
"That's what you're really interested in," said Ellis, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan.
Ellis repeated his suspicion several times in the hour-long court hearing. He said he'll make a decision at a later date about whether Manafort's case can go forward.
"We don't want anyone in this country with unfettered power. It's unlikely you're going to persuade me the special prosecutor has power to do anything he or she wants," Ellis told Dreeben. "The American people feel pretty strongly that no one has unfettered power."
When Dreeben answered Ellis' question about how the investigation and its charges date back to before the Trump campaign formed, the judge shot back, "None of that information has to do with information related to Russian government coordination and the campaign of Donald Trump."
At one point, Ellis posed a hypothetical question, speaking as if he were the prosecutor, about why Mueller's office referred a criminal investigation about Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen to New York authorities and kept the Manafort case in Virginia.
They weren't interested in it because it didn't "further our core effort to get Trump," Ellis said, mimicking a prosecutor in the case.

No problem. Mueller can just turn everything on manafort over to whichever federal prosecutor that has jurisdiction. Note the judge didn't say manafort shouldn't be prosecuted, only that mueller might not have jurisdiction.

She hasn't, but the public certainly has. No one with an IQ higher than 100 thinks that this is anything but a way leftist are trying to leverage to oust Trump from office.

I hope they succeed, a lot of leftist would regret the day they were born.

He didn't make a decision today about anything, but he was pretty skeptical of Mueller's attempt to admit his Title 1 based evidence (from the Patriot Act authorization that was granted to investigate RUSSIAN collusion) instead of Title 3 "Regular Warrants" (which is what Manafort's alleged bank fraud violations from lobbying should be)

That’s a BIG problem for Mueller, who was counting on leverage on Manafort to prompt a confession about his actual target: Trump. If the case is remanded to the Federal prosecutors, Mueller loses his ability to bargain away the conviction or jail time for his desired confession.

Why wouldn't Goran and those that gave his "he should be hung" comment likes, appreciate the fact that if thie investigation is exhaustive and comes up with nothing of substance against Trump, that's a good thing for Trump ? What's better ? Lingering doubts that never go away, about the ultimate in unethical and possibly treasonous behavior on the part of Trump ? Or an exhaustive investigation, that possibly proves Trump is clean, or at least shows that they can't prove he isn't ?

Why isn't that all good for Trump ? It's almost as if the stress of fearing they will find (or already have found) some really bad dirt on Trump has gotten to you guys.

Mueller's team didn't expect the foreign defendants to contest, to get a judgement by default, but then two attorneys showed up, and now Mueller's team is asking for more time.

The defense attorneys want to know about discovery: where and how the evidence was sourced.
