"This year, Capitol Hill’s official scorekeeper predicts that Washington will spend an average of $6,300 on each individual who purchases subsidized health insurance through the Affordable Care Act’s exchanges. Meanwhile, it’s set to spend just over $4,900 for each Medicaid recipient who enrolled thanks to the law’s expansion of the program."

First, unless you look into the data, this is a useless stat. Obamacare has a strong adverse selection value to potential enrollees. I enrolled about 200 people into Obamacare plans in the last 12 months. Every single one of these people is either a major pre-ex patient, or poor enough so that their government subsidy covers most of the cost. Less than 5 of those 200 clients are paying full price for Obamacare... and 4 of those are a rich family who own a family business and didnt want to do healthcare for their entire company. The results are spiraling out of control premiums. In fact, my entire marketing strategy takes advantage of this phenom wherein I sell only to rural counties with one inflated premium Obamacare carrier. ACA has absolutely destroyed our healthcare system for many working class people.

The difference then with Medicaid is that they get a mix of very poor people. Since they arent paying inflated premiums and instead just pay for medical care as it is provided, it isnt surprising that it is less expensive per person than ACA subsidies.

Figures dont lie but liars figure. To suggest this stat means we should go to single payer is a case of liars figuring.

It's so cute whenever somebody mixes the phrase "cost effective" in a thread about health care.
