So his daughter’s book is out and it’s less than flattering. He comes across as neglectful and abusive. She and her mom lived on welfare for a long time until Jobs was finally forced to cough up child support. Nice that we could pay for a billionaire’s progeny. I guess the neighbors felt sorry for her and put her through college? Lots more.

Loved the Jobs movie, and Kutcher was great, but I have a lot of trouble watching the parts about his daughter. Very sad.

Yes and no.

Cant he be both lauded for the value he brought the world and judged for being a horrible person to some people?

The goal isnt a single ranking factor from a human value formula is it? What would be the point of such a ranking?
3   MisdemeanorRebel   2018 Aug 27, 10:07am

He also ripped off the guy who did the real work, Boz.

And deliberately stank while telling other people they stank.

High functioning sociopath.
4   Rin   2018 Aug 27, 2:51pm

This is why Rin is the greatest non-CEO, top dozen in a firm, ever.

Rin knows how to build a company, using automation, not to bolster wasteful headcount. And thus, reserves his company's resource to only hire the very best prop trader out there.

In his personal life, he doesn't date anyone, he only fuck hoes. And thus, no illegitimate child and no 'Lisa' stories.

In steve Job's case, it's a definite YES.
His incredible success in changing the world simply dwarfs his negatives. Unusually successful people have a lot of weirdness built into them.

That's the best part of the human race. We have a huge variety of characters, which keeps the human race progressing.
Sadly, some of the most dangerous ones are those who would not hesitate to cause incredible harm, are the ones we should eliminate right away....Hitlers, Kims, Lenin's, Muhammad's, and other lunatics.

With Rin. because he's the one. He doesn't lie, he doesn't try to embellish his life because he's the truth! Rin is the one!

If I want to have dinner with a liar, I'd just hire someone from the producer's club of the Kardashians.

Otherwise, I'd have dinner with anyone.

I don't understand the Steve Jobs myth. Steve Jobs is the most overrated person on the planet. Apple was a bit player in the computer industry until the Ipod which was 25 years after the company was founded. Atari, commodore 64, and Radio shack all outsold apple by a ton, never mind IBM pc's which just buried apple. The lisa was a loser that almost took the company down. The Job's Next machine was a failure flat out. The original mac almost took the company down also, Once the Mac started production Jobs cut off all development and support for the Apple II which was the bread and butter for the company.. . Wozniak left over that. The Iphone was just an upgraded Apple/Motorola ROKR phone apple was already selling. The ipod was the only real Steve Jobs winner and his contribution was the wheel interface instead of the existing menu interfaces of other players. What incredible success? So much hype. .

IBM PC's were junk. Commodore 64, Atari, and Radio Shack are history. WTF are you trying to prove here? That Apple is a loser because some companies had higher sales? What's wrong with you?

He created Apple. A company that in so many cases dragged the computer industry forward. The mac had a user interface way in advance of its age. It took decades for Microsoft to catch up.
When apple bought Next and he became CEO, Apple had maybe a few months of liquidity in front of it. They were destined to join the multitudes of carcasses the SV is littered with. Apple was basically dead.
It took a sequence of virtually perfect moves to bring it out of this kind of death spiral... And not just that, but to the point where Apple is now the most valuable company on this planet.
Yes, I know they are not perfect. They are expensive and irritating. But take a HP laptop and compare it to a Macbook build. There is just no comparison.
Jobs achieved all this - in an age of gold diggers - by producing objects that are incredibly beautiful and also incredibly useful. There are simply no other that came close. Certainly not the Gates, Zucks, Ellison, etc...

Say what you want about the guy. He was a jerk. Fine. No one chooses to be autistic or a sociopath.
But his record speaks for itself.

It was Job's vision, and his vision only, that led to the incredible success of Apple, which resulted in it being the most valued company in the history of mankind.
American entrepreneurship at it's best. Apple is worth more than the fucking GDP of Commie country Russia. LOL.
If Apple was a country, it would easily conquer Russia, a loser wannabe Superpower.

Jobs put apple into a death spiral in the first place. Apple sucked wind playing with bankruptcy off and on for 25 years with Jobs at the helm for 16 of them. They didn't make any real increase with in sales which were below 10 billion dollars from 1977 until 2005/2006 then took off with the ipod. Where was all that genius the first 30 years? Microsoft didn't need to catch up they were outselling apple 100 to 1. The Ipod was the winner with the Iphone (not a jobs product) following on that made apple. One big winner product in 40 years to me is hype.
21   WookieMan   2018 Aug 27, 9:55pm

As it is with presidents, people need to stop sucking the cock of one person. Jobs is nothing without a field of engineers and the like. By the iPhone years I'd be surprised if he had a hand in hiring any of them. If you want to give him credit for ideas, fine. Implementing them and hiring the talent for those ideas wasn't all him. I don't mind him as he's helped put a computer in the palm of my hand. That said, he didn't do it by himself.

Every tech company, especially "chimps" (meaning not "gorillas"), were always playing with bankruptcy. Do you know any other startup from 1980 that is still around? And Jobs was not even around while Apple was sinking because of failed strategies like no modern OS, inferior processors, trying to foster a clone industry for their bread and butter.
Look, whatever.
Jobs was never perfect and clearly flawed. But Apple is now the most valuable company. Whatever your definition of success, he clearly left his mark.

Naturally, but there are many companies that have fields of engineers and only 1 company went from death spiral to most valuable by producing beautiful and useful objects.

Microsoft inherited a monopoly situation from a charity deal from IBM allowing them to resell the "quick and dirty OS" that they had bought from a bum from $50K and licensed by IBM as the heart of its new personal computer strategy. Plain luck, with incredibly poor technology.

The genius was fully necessary just to survive against IBM: Remind us which other computer company not doing PCs survived? 0. None. Zilp.

I will politely disagree if you're talking about the iPhone. There are other products and inventions that are FAR better then the iPhone. I own the X and love it. So no bias here. But it was coming either way, with or without Jobs. This is the way of life. And there's no iPhone without a shitload of other inventions previously by far more influential people in the grand scheme of history.

That was when Apple's vertical integration story finally paid off. During the transition to digital music, the tight integration between the Mac, iTunes, the iPod, and, eventually, the iPhone made for a better user experience.
iPhone sales continue to increase but there was a slight fall off in iPads and Macs this past year. Will be interesting to see if users continue to pay a hardware premium for the "superior" cloud/smartphone experience.

JOBS isnt here to defend himself.

We dont know if mother was bitch and fed her daughter lies. Women when they break up , tend to make men look bad. Claim cheating, hitting , uses drugs.... to show they were good but it was man's fault.

35% women r on mental medication. So lot of hallucinations occur. Another 35% on borderline but not officially diagnosed. Remaining 30% only go crazy 3-5 days a month during period.

As for taking care of his daughter, he was trying to making living which pays for all , so he might not had enough time. Men work 25% more than women, but they only make 3% more in pay.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_College_London

Excerpt: "Established in 1826 as London University by founders inspired by the radical ideas of Jeremy Bentham, UCL was the first university institution to be established in London, and the first in England to be entirely secular and to admit students regardless of their religion. UCL also makes the contested claims of being the third-oldest university in England and the first to admit women. In 1836 UCL became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London, which was granted a royal charter in the same year."
