The European commission will recommend that EU member states abandon the practice of changing the clocks in spring and autumn, with many people in favour of staying on summer time throughout the year.

Jean-Claude Juncker, the commission’s president, said that a recent consultation had shown that more than 80% of EU citizens were in favour of the move.

Good move. It's an idiotic thing to change clocks and pretend it changes the location of the sun in the sky.

No everyone calling for this aren't sure what they want.
If they ended daylight saving time, it still gets dark at 5pm in the Winter, but that will mean it gets dark at 7:30 in the height of the Summer.
The solution is to make Daylight Savings the standard time.

In a green world wouldn't the smart money be on more evening daylight?

When it's dark in the early morning, people don't tend to turn on every light in the house. Only the bed room, kitchen and bathroom, and they turn off the light as they leave them. Evening dark, people tend to turn on all of the lights in the house and leave them on until they go to bed.

Whatever it is, I wish they'd just make something standard all the time. It's a huge nuisance having to change the clocks back and forth every few months. They're not enough drive-in movies anymore to make any difference.

Just add giant rockets to the earth to adjust the amount of sunlight to the northern hemisphere.

Changing clocks does not in any way change the amount of daylight.

If businesses want to open earlier in the winter, fine, they should do that. But there is no benefit to changing the clocks.

EU to stop changing the clocks in 2019

The EU is doing away with the twice-yearly clock changes and has given member states until April to decide if they will remain on summer or winter time.

Now that sounds like a good idea. Let businesses do summer/winter business hours as they see fit.

Didn't this all have to do with the agricultural economy we had like 200 years ago?

Yeah, I believe so. Daylight savings is annoying and stupid and bad. One day I hope everyone realizes that and we can ditch it once and for all.

It’s used to accommodate work done outside. But since Europeans don’t enjoy long work days, it’s unnecessary. If anything they should enact “naptime savings.”
