Going to Start Using TOR For All my Personal Browsing

For work stuff still using Firefox and Chrome, but saw a really good Defcon talk from one of the TOR devs on some of the myths and benefits of TOR. Seems like a good solution to cutting down on spying and adds, though I know using websites like youtube, etc on TOR won't afford total anonymity.

VPN is more secure, I believe. If I have mine actively spoofing an IP I don’t own, I don’t get tracked as who I am. Otherwise it’s pathetic how much they track me.

Boot that shit up off USB tor is slow as shit. You would be better off going through vpn service and if your really paranoid use one that doesn't record you logging in and multiple jumps.

If you watch the video, he specifically address's the speed issue. Was more problematic in the past, not now. I do notice a lag when first accessing it after my computer was closed for a while, but I assume this is due to re-establishing a TOR circuit. I use PIA VPN, and the two together are much more effective than either separately. VPN encrypts your traffic, but it doesn't offer the additional hops and handshakes of TOR, where each connection only knows part of your data.
